Wouldn't hurt if Pope Francis consecrated Russia by name on October 13th anniversary 2017-- would release a lot of graces.

I heard a really salt-of-the-earth homily this morning about Fatima. Father John reminds us about the primary reason for Our Blessed Mother's visit. It's good to remember the basics along with all of the other rich gifts that Mary gave to the children.

"In this instant man's heart is like stone. I GRIEVE AT THE FAILURE TO MAKE KNOWN THE COMPLETE MESSAGE THAT MY MOTHER GAVE IN FATIMA, SINCE IT IS SO PAINFUL BUT SO TRUE THAT, HAD MY CHILDREN KNOWN ABOUT IT, IT WOULD HAVE CHANGED MAN AND THE LATTER'S DESTINY."

Cardinal Bertone talks about the third secret of Fatima and his meetings with Sr. Lucy http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/n...talks-about-the-third-secret-of-fatima-20834/
While the article covers much of what the Cardinal has previously said about Fatima, the following was news to me:

The cardinal also shared details about his last meeting with Sr. Lucia. He said that one of the main topics of their last conversation was about the meeting Sr. Lucia had on July 11, 1977 with Cardinal Albino Luciani, then Patriarch of Venice.

Cardinal Luciani would be elected Pope John Paul I on Aug. 26, 1978, and his papacy would last only 33 days. Many reports said that Cardinal Luciani was shocked by the meeting he had with Sr. Lucia, since she would allegedly predict both his election as a pontiff and his very short pontificate.

In fact, Cardinal Luciani had drafted a report of his meeting, and Cardinal Bertone had brought this report with him, in a translation in Portuguese that Sr. Lucia had requested.

Cardinal Bertone recounted: “She carefully read the report, and then confirmed every word and signed it at the very end. I then asked a precise question: ‘Did you predict Cardinal Luciani’s election as Pope?’ She answered, with these very words: ‘I do not remember if I told him he was going to be elected Pope. I told my religious community that I had met a good cardinal, a holy cardinal, and that if he was elected Pope, he was going to be a good Pope’.”

Cardinal Bertone added that the discussion between Cardinal Luciani and Sr. Lucia dealt with the decline of faith in the Church and other general problems of the Church.

    Dear Father,

I think the following two conversations, which I recall very well from the 1960s, are of particular interest now, in these deeply troubled times half a century later. For they apparently corroborate Cardinal Ciappi’s testimony that part of Our Lady’s Fatima secret was the shocking prediction that the great apostasy in the Church would begin “at the top.”

The first conversation was In June 1965. We were in Florence in the house where my husband was born, and where I spent my first sabbatical. My husband invited a priest named Msgr. Mario Boehm, whom he had met in Rome shortly after his conversion, and who had been one of the top editors of L’Osservatore Romano for many years. The topic of Fatima came up. My husband raised the question, “Why was the third secret of Fatima not revealed?” For the Holy Virgin had said it should be shared with the faithful in 1960.

Don Mario: It was not revealed because of its content. My husband: What was so fearful about it? Msgr. Boehm (as a well-trained Italian) did not say that he had read it, but intimated that the content was fearful: “infiltration of the Church to the very top”. It shattered us but confirmed my husband’s fear that the way Vatican II was interpreted was going to expose the Church to terrible dangers. Alas, this fear was well founded.

Yes Brother Al. I remember years ago being told Jesus died on the cross to save all of us. But even if I was the only person in this world Jesus would still have died on that cross for me alone. We are each of us all so special and loved by God and we should never ever give up on his mercy

Last night as I watched TV I came to EWTN network and the Fatima activities had begun. To my joy the rosary had started and I joined in and we completed the Joyful mysteries. Then Pope Francis headed to the Pope Mobile to greet God's spiritual army on the eve of our greatest battle. Then he decided to get into the front of the vehicle where no one could see him and drove off. If Eisenhower had snubbed the troops on the eve of the battle for Normandy during WWII what message would he had have been conveying to the troops. This Pope is big on symbolic actions about earthly/materialistic things, but when it comes to the faith I feel rudderless without an earthly leader. During the Korean war a General was told his army was surrounded and he responded I think " well now we know where they are". This is the leadership we need in our spiritual battle.

Fatima, the Marian Age, and the Devil’s Century
    [IMG]

In the great slaughterhouse of the twentieth century, the sheer scale of lethal evil, organized above all in the communist regimes, appeared to have loosed Satan himself in the world. In this context, the apparitions of Fatima were addressed directly to the wickedness of the twentieth century, as well as to the wickedness of sin that lurks in all of history.

    Commentary
The apparitions at Fatima are the key moment of a Marian age that the Church has been living for nearly two centuries. They are also at the heart of a century in which the devil was on the march.

Consider this: In 2017 falls the three hundredth anniversary of the Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida in Brazil, but the first Latin American pope will not visit the world’s largest Marian shrine. He will be, though, in Fatima on Saturday for the hundredth anniversary of the first apparition there on 13th May 1917.

In 1982, the first Polish pope was not at Czestochowa for the sixth hundredth anniversary of Our Lady of Jasna Gora, Queen of Poland. He was in Fatima that year, though, for May 13th.

To be sure, there were other circumstances that influenced those decisions, but in the era of papal foreign travel, every pope has been to Fatima. She is the queen of the Marian age.

In the 19th century the Church recognized authentic Marian apparitions at three French locations: Rue du Bac, Paris (1830) at which the Miraculous Medal devotion began, La Salette (1846) and Lourdes (1858). There were several others in other countries, most prominent among them Knock, Ireland, in 1879. Marian apparitions were never more frequent.

In 1854, Blessed Pius IX defined the dogma of the Immaculate Conception. In 1950, Venerable Pius XII proclaimed the dogma of the Assumption. Vatican II would present Mary as the model of the Church as a whole, and Blessed Paul VI would declare her to be Mother of the Church.

All that even before the pope whose motto was Totus Tuus - totally yours, taken from St. Louis de Montfort’s prayer to the Blessed Mother. St. John Paul II attributed his survival of the assassination attempt of May 13 1981 - feast of Our Lady of Fatima - to Mary’s intervention.

He would make three pilgrimages of thanksgiving to Fatima, each of them on the May 13th feast day. He went in 1982 for the first anniversary of the shooting, in 1991 for the tenth anniversary, at which time he gave thanks for the defeat of communism, and in 2000, when he expressed his gratitude that through her intercession he was able to lead the Church into the third millennium.

This Marian age has a certain apocalyptic character, with Marian piety increasingly framed by the vision of the Book of Revelation, where the woman “clothed with the sun” is threatened by the Satan, the ancient dragon.

In the great slaughterhouse of the twentieth century, the sheer scale of lethal evil, organized above all in the communist regimes, appeared to have loosed Satan himself in the world. The prophecy thus made in Genesis, that the head of the serpent would be crushed by the woman, seemed more relevant to Christian piety.

In this context, the apparitions of Fatima were addressed directly to the wickedness of the twentieth century, as well as to the wickedness of sin that lurks in all of history.

Our Lady of Fatima spoke of the Great War, and a greater war to come. She spoke of the rise of Bolshevism in Russia, and how mass killings of the people, by the usurpers of the people, for the supposed sake of the people, would cause tens of millions to perish across the earth.

But the Lady showed the children a far more frightening vision of hell, a great massa damnata suffering horrifying torments. Against this backdrop of the wages of sin, here and hereafter, she proclaimed the final triumph of her Immaculate Heart.

Fatima wove together papal threads both past and future. The final apparition of October 13 1917 fell thirty-three years to the day after Pope Leo XIII had a disturbing vision in 1884 about a coming century of particularly diabolical activity. He composed the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel after seeing the vision and in 1886 mandated that it be prayed after all “low” Masses, which it was until 1965.

Leo XIII would write more than a dozen encyclicals on the Rosary, and would organize the Jubilee Year 1900 around consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

St. John Paul II’s link to Fatima was profound after the shooting of 13th May 1981. He gave to the shrine at Fatima the bullet extracted from his body, which the local bishop inserted into the crown upon the statue, where it remains to this day.

In 1984, one hundred years after Leo’s vision of the diabolical century, John Paul would consecrate the entire world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, as Our Lady of Fatima had requested. It was the beginning of the end of the communist era; in 1991 the Soviet Union would be erased from the map.

John Paul would write his own lengthy apostolic letter on the Rosary, adding the five mysteries of the Lord’s public life. He would organize the Great Jubilee of 2000 around consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, for which ceremony he brought the bullet-adorned statue from Fatima to Rome.

Every country has its particular Marian image with some, like Mexico’s Our Lady of Guadalupe, extending its reach across many nations and peoples. Our Lady of Fatima does not belong as much to a place as to a time, the Marian age of the Church and century that appeared to belong to the devil.

Cardinal Parolin: unnecessary speculations on the secrets of Fatima
On the eve of the Pope's journey, the Secretary of State: What Fatima wanted to tell us was publicly and openly said....

What has been and is still being said on the secrets of Fatima are "useless speculation," because "what Fatima wanted to tell us was said publicly and openly" and Her message is "the core message of Christianity" that is "The announcement that Jesus has risen, that Jesus is alive, that Jesus is the Lord of history" Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of the Vatican State, said in an interview with the Vatican media on the eve of Pope Francis' 2-day journey in the Portuguese Marian sanctuary when, on the occasion of the centenary of the first apparitions of May 13 1917, he will canonize two of the three visionary shepherds.

No offense, but as I read the rest of the article I found myself thinking "blah, blah, blah"!!

Very interesting that the hierarchy continues to elude the very obvious questions, they want to 'normalize' the message, emphasizing the good and hiding what does not seem good or reasonable in the eyes the world - this is the very strategy of this pontificate.

"Pilgrims with Mary… But which Mary?...The Virgin Mary of the Gospel, venerated by the Church at prayer, or a Mary of our own making: one who restrains the arm of a vengeful God; one sweeter than Jesus the ruthless judge; one more merciful than the Lamb slain for us?" (Last night, pope Francis speech for the Blessing of the Candles )

Those sound like strange words to me, it's like our notion of God's justice is being exaggerated/ disfigured and put in contradiction with His mercy. I was surprise to hear them because they downplay the very words of the official Third Secret Fatima:

After the two parts which I have already explained, at the left of Our Lady and a little above, we saw an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they died out in contact with the splendour that Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice: 'Penance, Penance, Penance!'.

Or even more directly in contradiction with the words of Our Mother in Akita, also a Church approved message:

"The demon will be especially implacable against souls consecrated to God. The thought of the loss of so many souls is the cause of my sadness. If sins increase in number and gravity, there will be no longer pardon for them"

I noticed with great pleasure that some reports on the Third Secret concerning the Papal visit underline that the Third Secret concerns the Church and grave difficulties in the Church.
    This is exactly true.

This is why it was never fully released. It embarrassed many in the Vatican. It embarrasses them now more than ever.
It points the finger right at them.

Everyone talks about Akita as though it were fully approved by the Church, yet according to this article in OneSundayVisitor, Akita is not an approved apparition https://www.osv.com/TheChurch/Mary/...ady-of-Akita-apparition-worthy-of-belief.aspx

If the Church authorities are satisfied that the consecration of Russia has been accepted by Heaven, what would be the point of releasing the part of the text warning that the apostasy will start at the top of the Church, assuming the text contains such a warning? Doing so would leave every bishop open to accusations of apostasy. What good would that serve, especially if the danger has been averted by the consecration?

  14. Jarg

    Jarg Archangels

I think if it speaks of an apostasy in the Chirch and it had been fully released in 1960 as Our Mother requested if would have avoided the dangerous route the church (or a big part of the church) took after Vatican council II (I am not saying the council was bad in itself), the fulfillment of which is being made very obvious right now.

just like seeing hell serve the three shepherds to repent and convert. I think knowing that there will be an apostasy coming from within the church if people did not repent, would have actuallly bear great fruits!

  15. Dolours

    Dolours Guest

It would have borne fruit in 1960 when enough clergy and faithful would have paid attention and it might have served to curb some of the excesses by the "spirit of Vatican 11" crowd. Releasing it now would give rise to a finger pointing session, suspicion and probably ridicule.

  16. And Padraig, I think too that the hierarchy over the decades have tried to hide from the consequences coming for the whole world and of course the faithful that are due just to the fact that the "shepherds" DID NOT respond and must repent for this crime against the faithful. Thus much of the suffering of the world for all these years and now coming to that possible "annihilation of nations" and the infiltration of the diabolical into the Church is due to their neglect and downright intentions. They must themselves be the first to repent! So no one can speak to the infiltration of evil into the Church herself and especially not what is also contained in the Secret that has been related to the serious predictions of Akita. If you happen to relate such natural disasters of the day to that sin you're practically anathema and receive the Church version of being "Alinskied"!

  17. Jarg

    Jarg Archangels

I totally agree, which is why it maybe makes sense that the popes after John 23 would not realease it in its entirety out of prudence. Meaning that the Virgin specifically said the message should not be released later than 1960 because at that time it would be understood. One can interpret that after that time it would just cause widespread confusion and finger pointing. There was a time for it and that time is gone. Of course that doesn't mean that what is in that non revealed part of the secret won't come to pass.

The point in releasing it is that it is the Truth. Heaven wanted it to be made known. How people reacted to it is irrelevant, if it is the will of God,nothing can ever top that.

It didn't come to pass because the consecration by Pope John Paul was accepted. By all accounts, Cardinal Ratzinger had been quite the modernist but he changed under the influence of Pope John Paul. Pope John Paul was scorned for sticking it out to the end rather than resigning to make way for a modernist. According to various leaks, the three candidates at the conclave that elected Pope Benedict included Cardinals Martini and Bergoglio yet Benedict was elected. Pope John Paul's sacrifice followed by Pope Benedict's election kept out the modernists for about 20 years. This gem of an article about a meeting between St. John Paul and the doctor who diagnosed his Parkinson's give a flavour of the holiness and strength of character of the saint Pope John Paul knew about the plots to replace him, yet he knew that the best way he could serve the Church was to hang in there despite his suffering. He hung in long enough for Cardinal Razinger to prove his worth in the CDF. Unfortunately Cardinal Ratzinger didn't have the same strength, which is not a criticism of him because men like St. John Paul don't come around very often. Between them, they kept the modernists at bay for 20 or more years.

Imagine what kind of Church we would have now if Pope John Paul had thrown in the towel when he was so ill and being undermined at every hands turn by those who should have done all in their power to support him instead of scheming to choose his replacement. Four years of Pope Francis has given us chaos and brought us to the brink of schism. Imagine if the people he is promoting now had been promoted 20 years ago. He would most likely have retired by now, safe in the belief that one of them would be his replacement. That's what we would have endured had the consecration not been accepted.

The consecration by Pope John Paul was accepted in Heaven. It isn't Heaven's fault that the world didn't make the most of the fall of the Soviet Union and the Church didn't make the most of having a saint followed by a faithful theologian occupy the See of Peter. The world went back to its old ways and we're back to rumours of nuclear wars. The modernists in the Church regrouped, wore Pope Benedict down and got their man elected. We have Our Lady of Fatima to thank for the fall of the Soviet Union and for sparing us apostasy at the very top of the Church for over 20 years. We can blame our own complacency for the current downhill trajectory. Heaven has given us the solution: the holy Rosary and the chaplet of Divine Mercy. I believe that the third secret did include reference to apostasy in the Church but releasing the text will serve no useful purpose now, and demanding its release is a distraction.

Well, Sr. Lucy advised the Pope not to release it. I don't believe she would have given that advise against the wishes of Heaven. The bottom line for me is that if it's good enough for Sr. Lucy it's good enough for me.
