For me, I am a bit confused as you are both right. It is the old "cup half full" or "cup half empty" dilemma. You could say catholic VP Joe Biden is good because he is for social justice, although he is also for unlimited abortion and gay marriage. I could find something positive about anything. It seems easy to drift into a type of "relativism." ie. So what if he's not a Christian, he's a "good person" , he'll get to heaven. We are living in the "culture of death", does it matter what entertainment we support? I happen to fall in the camp that says yes, however so many of the people we love say no. And if they support the "culture of death", how then do we convert them if we don't engage them? Confused not amazed.

why would anyone like Zombie movies though? If I had known then I would not have gone to World War Z, what are they all about?

If you are pro abortion and gay marriage then the other stuff is a crock too surely?

What's coming to mind with this discussion is something sad and tragic that happened in my own family. An aging retired Priest got up in the pulpit at Sunday mass in a small town in my small country and said, during his sermon, that the best show on TV at the present time, is, in his opinion, "Desperate Housewives". He said it is favourite show. My daughters were there at the time with their dad. ( My daughters were about 10 and 14 at the time.) Their dad was so angry at what the priest had said that he vowed he was finished with his brief foray in to Catholicism and he has never gone back to Mass since.

One day shortly after the sermon had been preached, I confronted the priest about his appalling statements at Mass re Desperate Housewives. He was shocked but not willing to repent. We then received a letter from him, in which he defended his position and defended the show yet again. We should have taken that letter to the Bishop, but instead we decided it would be a waste of time and would only serve to cause us more suffering.

My point is, weigh everything, even if it comes out of the mouth of or from the pen of a person who is charged with teaching and upholding the Faith. As Pope John Paul II said in his sermon for the beatification of Jacinta and Fransisco Marto, ..."have nothing to do with the dragon, whose tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven, and cast them to the earth" (Rv 12: 4). (emphasis mine)

If we are not very careful indeed, we will be led astray by those very people who are supposed to be leading us to Heaven, the priests.

Unforunately, VP Biden represents a lot of what Lumena describes above as 1/3 of our clergy as described in Revelation 12:4. My question would be is that how Fr. Barron sees it? Inquiring minds need to know.

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

I have had this golden rule for myself when it comes to any kind of horror movie for years now. The real world and my mind provide plenty of natural horror. I don't need to spoon feed myself more horror by voluntarily going to any kind of horror movie even if it is polished up with a nice love story or feel good story so whether it has zombies or vampires or exorcists or some nut ball wielding a chain saw, it isn't for me. Even if it is a subtle horror movie it isn't for me. Having the imagination that I have, I always have found a way to freak myself out with seeing that stuff. If I even see a commercial for any kind of horror movie I immediately turn it off so not to be infected. Like Phillip, I am highly susceptible to being very freaked out to seeing demon or exorcism type stuff. And yes I mean freaked out to point of looking for the boogie man under my bed. Yikes is Right!!!!

Give me the good ole' love story drama or comedy drama and a bowl of popcorn and a nice girl to cuddle up with...Now your talking. Throw in a Christmas story or a Christian message into those dramas and it's even better yet.

Jimmyiz - I think that if you are disturbed easily by the horrific things you see, it is ultimately a good sign that you have not totally desensitised yourself to horror by allowing yourself to continually watch horrific things.

When my neice was five years old, we were told that she suffered from night terrors.

We were also given to understand that she had already, at the age of five, seen the movie, "The Exorcist." (Her parents had watched it in their home and allowed their 2 small children to see it at the same time.) Then they wondered why she could not sleep peacefully at night.

(I still havn't seen it, and I hope I never do. My then husband told me that he had watched it as a young man and had regretted it ever since because he said there were some things in it that he could never erase from his mind & they came back to haunt him at later moments, many times throughout his life.)

We were not surprised our neice was having night terrors. In this case, it seemed like a direct fruit and a fitting punishment for the cruelty of her parents - she could no longer sleep soundly and as a result, neither could they.

The things we allow ourselves to see are somehow indelibly imprinted on our minds. These things may play a part in our later "dreams and visions of the night".

As the sweet nuns taught us to sing, when we were at primary school: "Oh be careful, little eyes, what you see..."

I have not seen the movie but it seems like the masons are setting us up for:
    1. a created pandemic (created by them)
    2. a savior of some sort during this crisis
    3. a solution by the WHO (or some One World Organization)which, in reality is a vaccine they created against the virus they created
Therefore, they will create the virus/pandemic...solve it....introduce a savior for us/anti-Christ....and get us dependent on the One World Government for solutions. Cute, right out of Saul Alinsky's playbook, long supported by the collection from catholics through The Campaign for Human Development throughout the U.S.

That is my review of the movie.

Where does this insatiable apetite for horror come from? Not from God.

In 1965, the Sound of Music, which was 100% wholesome family entertainment, won Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

In 1992, Silence of the Lambs won Best Picture and took out the top five awards. In a generation, the psyche of the American people had altered beyond recognition. They now couldn't get enough of a "thriller" about cannabilism. And as America went, so followed the rest of the world.

But from whence come the ideas, the dark matter, the preternatural power to create the movies that feed the insatiable apetite of a nation for horror? Via Hollywood, from the pit of hell.

"But Father so and so", or some other Christian mouthpiece, such as your local Diocesan publication, "said it was a good movie, that was well worth seeing...."

By their fruits, you will know them.

It reminds me of Mel Gibson trying to stay relevant to the Hollywood crowd. Slippery slope is what they call it.

It will seem a bit off point , but if you can bear with me I will eventually end up back to El Zombies. ;)

Last night I was having a drink , late with my brother and a friend when his phone went.

It was a call from his friend Marty and his wife inviting him round to join them and a few friends. It was Marty, said 'private' and I was not to come.

Well the reason I was not to come is that Marty and his wife are high up in a political party that very much supports abortion and homosexual 'rights' and it would have been highly contentious , not to say embarrassing for them both if I had turned up in fact the place might have to have called the police to sort things out.

Now my brother said he was going round on his own because I would not be ,' Nice' round there. Well I certainly would not have been nice, no not nice at all.

For it seems to me in the world at the moment that the majority of folks who wind up in hell at the minute are very, very nice people. The biggest shock they'll get is finding them selves right down there. They are 'Compassionate, ' understanding', moderate', 'Liberal' , Modern' ,'Progressive' .

The nicest people you could ever meet.

Myself , on the other hand. Well, I 'm not a nice thing at all. I talk about really nasty un nice things like killing a baby in her mothers womb is murder. Sexual perversion will get you to hell and anyone who politically supports such things is just as guilty as the child murderers and perverts who do such things.
So you can see why I wasn't welcome to Marty's house. :)

Now coming back to the zombie movie. I am not an American but in my opinion Fr Barron is one of the best things it has going for it. If I had my way I would make him a Cardinal and a future Pope tomorrow. The guy is not only very holy he is quite clearly a genius.

I went to see the movie partly because I was curious about what he said about it. I am glad I did go because it was not only wonderful entertainment but it taught me some things on the same level as what I said about Marty and his his wife. About being nice and sometimes not being nice.

Or to put it another way, its a movie that's all about not being nice. And for people like Fr Barron and myself who are both most certainly not nice people, well. that's a big draw.

THANK YOU PADRAIG! You just answered my prayer. I had started another reply and was researching something when you replied and knocked my reply out.
here it is in a nutshell...
I love the Sound of Music, it is a family tradition at our house - my mother's maiden name is Trapp.
I also love On Golden Pond.
I also happen to love the Passion of the Christ. It is also a family tradition at our house, we watch it every Good Friday, to remind us how much we hurt Jesus when we sin, and to remind us how much Mary also suffered.
Jesus actually did get beaten that bad. Just ask Sr. Emmerich and Saint Faustina.
I also love our good priests. PLEASE stop bashing them here.
Also, please don't write a review for a movie you have not seen...okay?
