Yes I was an atheist up to age 35. I was baptised and confirmed into the Catholic Church in 2010.
I had started reading medical studies about near-death-experiences (e.g. Michael Sabom), then looked into evidence for miracles such as approved apparitions and The Shroud, and Eucharistic Miracles such as Lanciano, later Sokolka and Legnica, and more.
My story is rather boring. Our Lady led me, though.

That's a difficult one, dear Beth. Yes, hope is there. A lot of young people return to the faith once they are old and mature enough.
Mr. Haffert's book "Meet the witnesses" contains good anecdotal, almost empirical, evidence on Fatima. Fr. Hardon's book is also good, of course.
There are good YouTube videos on the Shroud of Turin.
The miracle of tears of the statue of Our Lady in Akita in 1973 has been filmed by a Japanese TV team. It is hard to find the original footage though, many documentaries only show clips of it.
I hope this helps. I will continue to pray. God bless!

I too was an “intellectual” atheist during college and med school, even though in my heart I never stopped believing in God. I was raised in a liberal Catholic home and parish, and 12 years of liberal post VII “catholic” education.

Once I woke up, during my residency and being challenged in my faith by the former Catholic born again doctor who was my residency director, I rebelled against my liberal upbringing that left me so wide open to antiCatholic rhetoric. So I’m a bit harsh with anything that seems “off” when it comes to Catholic orthodoxy and I’ve turned into a much more traditional Catholic.

This is my story too. If the dad isn't on board the children most often won't be either. The scandals were the last straw.

It does help Michael! It’s all grace and maybe your mission is to share your conversion. You gave me hope! Thank you.
Well Brian, your story gives me great hope too! Thank you for sharing!

And yet, even when the father is “on board” some children can go astray. We homeschooled our three children from k-12. We always went to Sunday mass, often went to daily mass, prayed in the home. I was deeply involved in getting rid of the pederast priests in our diocese.

My oldest is in seminary to be a Norbertine priest with St. Michael’s Abbey in Silverado CA.

His sister, my middle child, fell under the spell of a liberal feminist adjunct English professor while at Franciscan University of Steubenville and that professor’s vile anti Catholic rhetoric. I just saw this post on my daughters Facebook page: 371C1DF7-0103-4E10-9F07-466B2AF90C35.jpeg F8F50017-B2AC-4366-AF84-83EFC1A3351B.jpeg

Then I saw where my youngest son had a “proud to be vaccinated” flag on his Facebook page. BFCBF47A-585F-48B7-8DB7-D3ECFB235633.jpeg

I haven’t heard anything from my wife, daughter or youngest son in four years. We are truly living in a time of diabolical disorientation. And worse.

Awwww you too Ann! But our faith preaches hope and trust in Jesus. They are His children and He won’t let them go if we are begging Him not to! He wants them more than we do! Jesus will bring them home!

And our only weapon against this is prayer...it is a test, but it can be won....

Yes. You were attacked with nuclear weapons of the spiritual realm. So like the evil one to go after those you love---horrible and unjust and so painful I can't imagine how you've endured it. God is making you a saint in your suffering and your pain offered back to Him will save their souls. This i believe with all my heart.

I can't put "like" because this is just so hurtful and diabolically disoriented and wrong. Instead of "like" I will put "empathize and support"

Brian, I often think of the loneliness you must feel and experience in being abandoned like this.

Just wanted to let you know that your situation has touched a chord with many of us on the forum and your courage is truly admirable. I know there still must be dark moments in the night for you.

God bless you. I continue to pray for the conversion of your daughter.

    Thank you both.

As some here know, my wife of 26 years (at the time) abandoned me 7 months after my strokes in March 2016. She had a manic reaction to an antidepressant so I believe to this day she doesn’t realize or understand what she’s done. But now I know it was my own narcissistic daughter encouraging her - gaslighting her - to do this. Ironically my daughter took the same antidepressant as my wife, and had the same manic reaction.

Unfortunately I can’t convince my boys of this. Mom says she felt better on this medication, so dad is a bad person for trying to get her off it, and dad isn’t qualified to say she had a bad reaction to it, only a psych specialist can say that, in their minds.

When the prescribing doctor was told what my wife did under these medications he was dumbstruck. He verified that yes, this was a manic reaction to the med. He had prescribed the med and never followed up for several years, just phoning in refills. When he tried to get her back in for adjustment of medication, she switched to a doctor who continued the prescription for her.

So I’ve lived alone, but married, all these years, slowly recovering from major strokes, heart trouble, etc. Folks have no idea what I’ve been through and continue to live through.

I just try to muddle through and plod on.

Hopefully folks can forgive me for being such a curmudgeon of a moderator in the midst of all this. Mea culpa.
