Putin and Kirill have been trying to turn the aggression against Ukraine into a kind of moral crusade or holy war against the West. However, when the bishops of Ukraine unanimously reacted against Fiducia Supplicans, it became clear how false that narrative was.

I have read reports that Putin was once interested in learning more about the message of Fatima. If that is true, he should know that the authentic message Our Lady gave to the three shepherd children denounced both the errors of the West—which he claims to fight against—and the errors of Mother Russia, to which he may attribute a celestial mission to fix the world.

There is a living, pulsating heart of Traditional Catholicism in the message of Fatima, one that is independent of any stance taken by Western governments. It is anchored in two fundamental devotions: the Holy Rosary and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Amid the restrictions on Catholic freedom in Russia, it is difficult for Russian citizens to become aware of this.

Give me a single one, sister, please! Just one, it can't be that difficult...

To make it easier, I'll let you expand the area of your search to also include Catholic priests and bishops from the Russian Federation and the Putinist protectorate of Belarus.

If you happen to be even remotely interested in information from our suffering Catholic brothers (and Christian brothers in general) in that region where they know better than us what communism really is, here are some sources:

Ukrainian Catholics of the Latin Rite (like us):
    https://rkc.org.ua/konferentsiya-yepyskopiv/

Ukrainian Catholics of the Byzantine rite (the vast majority of Ukrainian Catholics):
    https://ugcc.ua/en/

The only Catholic university in about 12 time zones in the so-called "canonical territory of the Russian Orthodox Church":
    https://ucu.edu.ua/en/

    Non-denominational religious information sites:
    https://risu.ua/en/
    https://df.news/

Orthodox websites, including the Orthodox Church affiliated with the Moscow Patriarchate:
    https://uoc-news.church/

    Catholic Church in Belarus:
    https://www.catholic.by/
    https://katolik.life/rus/

    Catholics Church in Russian Federation:
    http://www.catholic.su/node/19 (no longer available...)
    http://www.rkcvo.ru/

    Etc...

Alternatively, my dear sister in Christ, from the comfort of your sofa, you can continue to watch Western TV shows and obscure blogs that spread Putinist propaganda, but be careful not to be deceived by the errors of Russia that my lead you to support murderous dictatorships that are destroying Christian churches, arresting and torturing Catholic priests, re-consecrating Catholic churches to the Russian schismatic religion and banning Catholicism in the occupied regions.

And my challenge remains: you bring me a single Chatholic bishop or priest that supports Putinism in those countries. By the way, you can broaden the scope of your search to North Korea, Iran and China who support the Putinist crusade in Ukraine.

    Just my 2 cents:

I don't know what "Putinism" is, nor do I think the issue at stake in the conflict is the practice of Catholicism in the Ukraine (which is not to say that it's not being affected and suffering with it), nor do I think that the errors of Russia are still within Russia and have not been spread abroad for decades, nor do I think it's accurate to label Russia's government a "murderous dictatorship" at the expense of the current regime in the Ukraine (or even the one that rules most of Europe).

I also think it's unwise to scrub under the rug the catalyst behind Russia's move.

However, we have known for quite a while that Russia (among other things) was going to be used as the instrument of chastisement against the apostate, decadent West. It's a cross we will unfortunately have to endure until Our Lady comes and her Immaculate Heart triumphs.

I believe Russia's errors are still within Russia, especially since it has the highest abortion rate among fertile women in the world. Moreover, last year, Putin denied the Russian Orthodox Church's request to ban legalized abortion in the country, arguing that such a ban would increase maternal mortality.

So, it's not about recognizing which is worse between Russia and the West, but rather acknowledging that both sides need conversion.

As for the war, it wouldn't have happened if Ukraine hadn't dismantled its nuclear arsenal in the 1990s, trusting that Russia would not attack it. It's also important to mention that if there were separatist movements in Russia questioning the country's territorial integrity—like those that occurred in Ukraine before the war began—Putin would have swiftly and decisively put an end to them, to say the least.

From a Putinist perspective, the states of a neighboring country have autonomy to decide their own future, but Russia's neighboring countries themselves do not have the same autonomy to determine their own future, even though they suffered greatly under Soviet rule.

If you read Catholic information channels daily in this region of Europe you will learn what "Putinism" is from the perspective of our Catholic brothers. It may not interest you, but that's up to you.

"She said that Russia will be the instrument of chastisement chosen by Heaven to punish the whole world if we do not beforehand obtain the conversion of that poor nation." (Lúcia to Fr. Fuentes, 1957)
The instrument was chosen to punish the entire world and that includes the decadent West but also Russia and much more. In fact, as the same sentence quoted above says, this will only happen because Russia has not yet converted. If we cross-reference this information with other prophecies, we can easily deduce that there is a strong probability that the great punishment will be the global victory of communism.

Roman Catholic priest detained yesterday in Belarus for subscribing to “objectionable” resources
    [IMG]

Roman Catholic priest Dmytro Malets, vicar of the Holy Cross parish in Lida, was detained for subscribing to “objectionable” resources.

This is reported by the Christian Vision Telegram channel.

Previously, the priest served in Novogrudok and became known for the fact that in 2023 he was going to be drafted into the Belarusian army. A farewell Mass was held in the church, but after the media publicity, the draft was canceled.

Today, Dmytro Malets has a court hearing under Part 1. 2, Art. 19.11 of the Administrative Code of the Republic of Belarus - distribution, production, storage, and transportation of information products containing calls for extremist activities or promoting such activities.

Basto, I find it interesting that you chose that quoted passage from Sr. Lucia. The full quote seems to have a bit more to it than an over-simplistic view that "Russia" is just a bad nation and if we convert Russia that we will solve all the problems that the Fatima Message warns of.

But that is not correct. The nation of Russia is not the cause of the problem. Sin, among Roman Catholics specifically, is the problem according to Our Lady of Fatima. Russia will be used by God to punish these Roman Catholic sinners, if those sinners do not convert and do penance.

Here is the full quote (https://fatima.org/father-fuentes-1957/):

Father, the Most Holy Virgin is very sad because no one has paid any attention to Her message, neither the good nor the bad. The good continue on their way but without giving any importance to Her message. The bad, not seeing the punishment of God actually falling upon them, continue their life of sin without even caring about the message. But believe me, Father, God will chastise the world and this will be in a terrible manner. The punishment from Heaven is imminent.

Father, how much time is there before 1960 arrives? It will be very sad for everyone, not one person will rejoice at all if beforehand the world does not pray and do penance. I am not able to give any other details because it is still a secret….

This is the third part of the Message of Our Lady, which will remain secret until 1960.

Tell them, Father, that many times the most Holy Virgin told my cousins Francisco and Jacinta, as well as myself, that many nations will disappear from the face of the earth. She said that Russia will be the instrument of chastisement chosen by Heaven to punish the whole world if we do not beforehand obtain the conversion of that poor nation.

Father, the devil is in the mood for engaging in a decisive battle against the Blessed Virgin. And the devil knows what it is that most offends God and which in a short space of time will gain for him the greatest number of souls. Thus, the devil does everything to overcome souls consecrated to God, because in this way, the devil will succeed in leaving the souls of the faithful abandoned by their leaders, thereby the more easily will he seize them.

Do you see that? The Fatima message is primarily about "the souls of the faithful," not some nation, Russia, that threatens war. Fatima is a concerned about the spiritual plane first and foremost. If the problems on the spiritual plane are not "solved," then the problems on the geo-political plane will necessarily follow. So reining in the Russian nation does not address the underlying reason that God is using Russia as His instrument of chastisement. And that reason, again, is sin of Roman Catholics who have apostatized from the true faith after Vatican II.

I have no objection to what you just said and I completely agree. The fact that I only brought here one sentence from the interview was because I wanted to point out two very specific details in that sentence, to correct two inaccuracies that arose here previously.

Along with the strong probability that Russia will be converted and in turn help the conversion of other nations. "Salvation is to come from the east", as the late Fr. Malachi Martin once said (in reference to Fatima).

One could argue that we are already under global communism. What is the EU but an example of communist rule? What's the prevalent materialism and general apostasy across the west but an example of the communist spirit?

In the end, it may be trading one evil for another, except one is not masking to be something else. The other is the evil we are currently under and have been under for decades.

As a Catholic, I invite you again to read Catholic information channels in the conflict region so as not to be deceived by Russian propaganda. Unless that doesn't interest you, for ideological reasons.

Remember that Ukraine, unlike Russia, has several million Catholics living in freedom and continuing to increase rapidly. The largest of the Eastern Catholic Churches is based there and this is being completely eradicated from the regions occupied by the Putinist invaders.

'Russian jihadism': Ukrainian patriarch fearful for church's survival
    [IMG]

With the Russian invasion of Ukraine now 3 years old, the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church told those gathered in Washington last week that his church will not survive if Russia succeeds, saying most parishes in occupied territories have been destroyed.

Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk joined a Thursday discussion at the Hudson Institute think tank to discuss ideas for lasting peace in Ukraine, warning about the end goals of the Russian worldview that he called "Russian jihadism."

His visit preceded the President Donald Trump-led U.S. government voting Monday against United Nations resolutions condemning the Russian invasion and supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity.

Shevchuk declared that Russian President Vladimir Putin has a "clear" objective "to erase Ukraine, its people, and its church."

"If Russia succeeds in occupying Ukraine, our church will not survive. For us, it's a matter of life and death," the patriarch said.

"History teaches us that whenever Russia takes control of territories with Eastern Catholics, it enforces them into the Russian Orthodox Church, drives them into exile, or sends them to perish in prison camps," he continued.

Borys Gudziak, the metropolitan archbishop of Philadelphia, and Archpriest Marc Morozovich also joined the discussion. Nina Shea, director of Hudson Institute's Center for Religious Freedom, served as the event moderator.

On Feb. 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine, with Russian President Vladimir Putin claiming that the attack was aimed at securing the rights of pro-Russian communities in Eastern Ukraine regions like Donetsk and Luhansk.

The U.S. State Department and the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom both have warned that Russia "systematically" persecutes many Christian churches, except the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate.

In December 2022, Russian occupation officials formally banned the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in occupied territories, in addition to Caritas Ukraine and the worldwide Catholic brotherhood of the Knights of Columbus.

In November 2022, the occupation authorities arrested two Redemptorist Fathers, Ivan Levitsky and Bohdan Geleta. Russian forces reportedly subjected the two priests to torture during their 18 months of captivity, with Shevchuk crediting the mediation efforts of the Holy See with the pair's release.

After their release, the patriarch said the priests were "unrecognizable," similar to "a photo from Auschwitz."

At least 10 Protestant pastors are currently facing the same type of imprisonment, Shevchuk noted. He called on those listening to advocate for the pastors' release from captivity.

"Most of our parishes in occupied territories have been destroyed," Shevchuk told Shea. "Churches and monasteries seized, property looted. ... Some church property is closed down and sealed, some is given back to the Russian Orthodox Church as it was in the late '50s."

By spring 2023, "almost all non-Orthodox churches in occupied territories were stripped of their right to hold church services," Mission Eurasia reported.

The Ukrainian patriarch highlighted what he described as "the horrifying results of Russia's imperial ambitions," pointing to the destruction and loss of life that has only grown since Russia's invasion began in February 2022.

As of February 2025, approximately 12.7 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, and 3.7 million people have been driven from their homes, according to the United Nations Refugee Agency. Another 6.9 million people from Ukraine have crossed into neighboring countries, with Poland welcoming the largest number of Ukrainian refugees.

As Shevchuk explained, Putin justifies the destruction through the Russian political concept "Ruskiy Mir," or "Russian world." The Ukrainian patriarch likened the idea to radical Islamism, saying that the ideology of "Russian world" is like "Russian jihadism."

The ideology of "Russian jihadism," according to Shevchuk, is based on three points. The first is the idea that the West is corrupt and the "embodiment of the antichrist." The second is that Russia's invasion of Ukraine is a "metaphysical" or "holy war" to defend authentic Christian faith and values. And lastly, there is the belief that a Russian soldier killed during battle will have the "remission of all [his] sins and immediately will go to Heaven."

Russian Orthodox Church leaders created the doctrine following the collapse of the Soviet Union in the late 20th century, according to Shevchuk.

The patriarch's remarks come as President Donald Trump and his administration have begun negotiations with Russia to try to end the war. The patriarch advocated for lasting peace in Ukraine "that does not appease dictators."

Senior U.S. and Russian officials met in Saudi Arabia on Feb. 17, Reuters reported, with both sides agreeing to restore each other's diplomatic missions. Ukraine officials were not included in talks between the U.S. and Russia.

Previous administrations had restricted Russia's diplomatic missions following the Ukraine invasion and other actions committed by Russia. The Biden administration sought to sanction and isolate Russia in response to the Ukraine invasion. Meanwhile, Trump is seeking to repair the U.S.' relations with Russia, much to the dismay of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who expressed optimism that the Trump presidency could bring a swift end to the war.

"We seek a just peace, not a temporary ceasefire that lets the aggressor return stronger," Shevchuk said during the Thursday panel discussion.

While some congressional Republicans believe that Russia is "protecting Christianity," Shea thinks that they are being "duped by Russian propaganda, including the claim that Russia's war against Ukraine is against Satanism." In reality, Shea has warned, Russia is persecuting Christian churches in occupied Ukraine.

Gudziak noted that Russian propaganda often casts Putin as a "defender of traditional values," based on his stance on gender issues.

"Russia is number one in the world in abortions," Gudziak said. "It's a country with one of the highest alcoholism rates — among men and women. One of the highest rates of suicide."

It's incredible that Fatima, a Catholic apparition, was a prophetic warning even for our Orthodox brothers about the evil of Communism that would take over Russia starting in 1917.

This may not be exactly true... What about the apparitions of Our Lady of Zeitoun, in Egypt? I think they are apparitions approved by the Coptic Orthodox Church, but I don't know this case or the Catholic Church's position on this.

I recently read again a very interesting book about Fátima written by a well-known Portuguese journalist and historian who studied and lived in Russia for many years. I would say it is a book written by a non-Catholic that should be read by all Catholics, with some historical details about Russia and Fatima that I have never seen elsewhere.

One thing he says in this book is that in the Orthodox Church there are no reports of apparitions similar to the apparitions of Catholic seers, like visitations from celestial entities that dialogue and interact with the seers. But, on the other hand, some Orthodox believers have pious dreams with messages or prophecies that are taken very seriously.

An example of these dreams mentioned in this book and which seems kind of linked to Fatima was the one that in 1917 led to the reappearance of the Russian icon of Our Lady of Derzhavnaya.

Derzhavnaya icon found again in 1917

On March 2, 1917 (March 15 in the Western calendar), after the February Revolution, on the day that Tsar Nicholas II abdicated the Russian throne, Evdokia Adrianova, a humble woman from the town of Pererva, in the Moscow region, saw and heard Our Lady in a dream. She was told to go to the village of Kolomenskoye where she would find an old icon in the local church (this icon had been in an unknown location since the period of the French Invasions).

The icon of the Mother of God Derzhavnaya or The Sovereign found in March 1917, in which Our Lady is portrayed with a red empress robe, with a scepter in one hand and a globe in the other, seems to be quite consistent with the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary prophesied just two months later at the other end of Europe.
