The Reward of the Righteous

More than 630 religious sites destroyed or damaged in Ukraine by Russian invasion

A recent report from the evangelical organization Mission Eurasia describes the critical situation of Christians in Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion in 2014 and especially after the large-scale invasion starting in 2022. Among other attacks on religion in Ukraine carried out by Russian invaders, stand out arrests of religious people, ban in occupied regions of religious denominations not affiliated with the Putinist regime and even the sacrilegious 'reconsecration' of a Catholic church by schismatic Russian Orthodox Church. According to this report, in the period between 2022 and 2023 alone, Russian invaders destroyed or damaged more than 630 religious sites in Ukraine.

Russian Patriarch Mocks Priest for Questioning Church’s Patriotism


The head of the Russian Orthodox Church publicly ridiculed a priest for criticizing the church’s alignment with the Kremlin’s wartime patriotic agenda, according to a leaked video recording.

Patriarch Kirill, a close ally of President Vladimir Putin, has been a vocal supporter of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, and the country’s Orthodox Church played a central symbolic role in rallying public support for the war.

“I don’t agree with such a patriotic trend in church relations,” a priest told Kirill at a clergy meeting on Tuesday. “A priest’s duty is to lead people to the Kingdom of Heaven and not to engage in patriotism.”

Kirill shot back by asking the priest: “Are you, father, from Western Ukraine by any chance?”

Following laughter and applause from the meeting hall, the church leader told the priest to “go sit down and think seriously about all that you just blurted out here.”
Video of the exchange was published late Tuesday on a Telegram channel run by exiled Russian church affairs journalist Ksenia Luchenko. She identified the priest as Alexiy Shlyapin from the Moscow region town of Mozhaysk.

Shlyapin is a follower of Father Daniel Sysoev, an influential fundamentalist priest who preached that Orthodox Christianity transcends national identity. Sysoev, who received multiple death threats, was shot dead in November 2009 in what was believed to be a religiously motivated attack.

Sysoev’s followers hope the Russian Orthodox Church will canonize him in the future. An anti-war Christian group said Shlyapin raised the issue with Kirill at Tuesday’s clergy meeting.

Russia’s Orthodox Church has framed the war in Ukraine as a “holy war,” urging its followers to fight Russia’s “external and internal enemies.” Dozens of Orthodox priests have been sent to the front lines to support Russian troops.

In 2023, Kirill created a senior ecclesiastical position to oversee church activities in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories. In his book “For Holy Rus,” which was published last year, he promised “eternal life” to Russian soldiers killed in combat.

The head of Ukrainian Catholics, Bishop Sviatoslav Shevchuck, has strongly condemned this Russian manipulation of the Christian faith by the regime:


Russia Dehumanizes Prisioners of War and Denies Them the Right to Pray


The Primate stated that the events unfolding on the front line are horrifying. Russia is determined to achieve their political aims by military means at any cost, are sacrificing thousands of their soldiers daily. It is a carnage.

“However, we were most appalled last week,” said the Head of the Church, “by the footage of the brutal execution of six of our prisoners of war and the fact that the Russian who executed them wore a sticker with an icon of the unmade Savior on his chest. It is a truly ghastly scene… Christian conscience cannot tolerate this.”

“A sacrilegious war cannot be justified. Defenseless victims must not be slaughtered in the name of God. Pope Francis has unequivocally defined the current situation. The Head of the UGCC also noted that our cities and villages were being shelled by the enemy nightly this week.

“Despite the brutal realities that we cannot reconcile or get used to, we want the world to hear the voice of our people once again: Ukraine stands! Ukraine fights! Ukraine prays!” he emphasized.

According to him, last week became a special time of listening to our women, mothers who are relatives and friends of those who went missing or were taken captive by Russia from our territorial self-defense units.

“In this conversation with women,” said the spiritual leader, “I was most struck by the story that our captives, imprisoned hostages, are not even allowed to pray. Russia treats them like animals, saying that animals do not pray. Prisoners of war are denied all religious attributes, including a cross and the Holy Scriptures.”

At the request of the women, the Head of the Church appeals to international institutions, the Red Cross, and everyone who can help to intervene and ensure that prisoners of war illegally held by the Russian Federation can fulfill their religious needs, in particular, pray.

I have heard him comment directly on this. Not the last pope but a pope. And all he said was " it sounds like this priest might have seen the text"

 

Malachi Martin is a person with extremely exceptional intelligence and presents his ideas and knowledge in the most pleasant way. At the same time he was and still is a very enigmatic and controversial figure.

Personally I believe that he actually had access to a lesser known part of the Secret of Fatima, otherwise I don't see how it would be possible for him to say or write some things at the time they were said or written. A mystic or a prophet doesn't seem to me to be the case...

However, Malachi Martin is not part of the infallible magisterium of the Church and, therefore, must be considered with great caution. If he did have access to the unknown part of the Secret of Fatima - and I think he did - that means that since then his thoughts and opinions have been shaped by that fact, but that doesn't mean they are right, at least not all of them. Therefore, the greatest care we must take in relation to Malachi Martin is to try to separate what may be his knowledge of the Secret of Fátima and Catholicism in general from what may be his humanly fallible opinions. And I can tell you that I have already read or heard from him some big mistakes.

Now to directly answer your question about the content of the video, in conscience I have to admit yes. In fact, a future "Pope under the control of Satan" (Malachi Martin himself suggests that the words might not be exactly those) seems to be in line with the content of other known Catholic prophecies. And from my point of view, Francis seems to objectively correspond to this description.

If my assumptions above regarding our essential agreement are correct, what did you mean, then, when you said that the Third Secret text that I presented was "a text whose content is so obviously fake?" As far as I know, Tucker Carlson and Bob Amsterdam are not Catholics nor do they live in Ukraine or Russia, they are fulfilling the Putinist agenda. I would say that they are false prophets who are promoting the "errors of Russia" prophesied in Fatima, including the persecution of the Eastern Catholics. Why don't you listen to Bishop Sviatoslav Shevchuck, leader of Ukrainian Catholics, or any other Catholic bishop in the region instead?
