so yesterday, the former CDC director came out to state he believed it was a lab leak for Wuhan. He said that is his opinion but he is a virologist and has all the info at his disposal. The new variants are here in the US and pretty scary. I am on the front lines as a public health nurse and am sending people home with terrible symptoms that turn out to be COVID positive. Several have been hospitalized and very sick and are vital, healthy 40 year old people. I thought we were coming out of it, but like you guys, we are just going back into another wave, hands down.
What are the symptoms of the patients? The medical establishment tell us it is a respiratory illness and if so it should 'disappear' over the summer.
well, it starts with a runny nose that looks like allergies at first (in the adults). Then they become progressively worse with body aches and such fatigue they can't even walk across a room. I have them monitor their pulse ox and many go down to 93 with the lung congestion. It's that lung congestion and low blood oxygen that puts them in the hospital. They are often diagnosed with COVID pneumonia and put on supportive oxygen therapy and antiviral meds.
I'm surprised at the intensity of the illness. These are normal weight adults in their 40's. Some very active exercisers...it really seems to take it's toll.
A 44 year old father in our parish just died from COVID leaving 3 young children behind.....that was sad.....
also, they have learned if they have COVID lung/pneumonia, they get them out of the hospital ASAP on O2 at home....no more ventilators. We are using monoclonal antibodies and Remdesivir IV treatments to save lives in early stages.
I think worse than physical events coming up is the spiritual onslaught happening. Definitely another surge, same thing happening in my Massachusetts town. We are dealing with the Brazilian variant. Local schools just had to return to full remote learning. Apparently they are expecting the UK variant to arrive here in six to eight weeks, and tourist season is approaching. That said, this virus has a ways to go before it burns itself out.
