    I thought the paper thing was strange but you make interesting points. I also like that it’s something anyone can do and isn’t limited to a certain geographic region.

    I think quite a few saints have written along these lines..

    In Scripture it is called, 'The Day of the Lord'

    Isaiah 13:9-11

    : “Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

    Zephaniah 1:14-18
    Near is the great day of the Lord,
    Near and coming very quickly;
    Listen, the day of the Lord!
    In it the warrior cries out bitterly.
    A day of wrath is that day,
    A day of trouble and distress,
    A day of destruction and desolation,
    A day of darkness and gloom,
    A day of clouds and thick darkness,
    A day of trumpet and battle cry
    Against the fortified cities
    And the high corner towers.

    Jeremiah 46:10
    Verse Concepts
    For that day belongs to the Lord God of hosts,
    A day of vengeance, so as to avenge Himself on His foes;
    And the sword will devour and be satiated
    And drink its fill of their blood;
    For there will be a slaughter for the Lord God of hosts,
    In the land of the north by the river Euphrates.

    Amos 5:18-20
    Alas, you who are longing for the day of the Lord,
    For what purpose will the day of the Lord be to you?
    It will be darkness and not light;
    As when a man flees from a lion
    And a bear meets him,
    Or goes home, leans his hand against the wall
    And a snake bites him.
    Will not the day of the Lord be darkness instead of light,
    Even gloom with no brightness in it?

    There is of course the Last Judgemant.But there is also the Minor Judgement. The Day of Wrath, the Three Days of Darkness.

    'The Dies Irae', the Day of Wrath, the music of which is copied in so many modern movies.

    I kind of like it when mystics startle us. I take it as a good Sign.

    St Padre Pio for instance was Mr Startle. Startle was his middle name.

    Our Lady of Fatima was very startling.

    If Scripture fails to startle we're probably not reading it right.

    Jesus was a never ending startle

    We very often think when we cannot understand something that there is something wrong with it.

    We very rarely think that it may be because there is something wrong with us.:)

    Maybe it means God permitting the removal of the restrainer, opening the way for Satan to do his worst prior to the second coming? That doesn't mean that God will no longer forgive us. It was clear to me from the video Padraig posted about St. Robert Bellarmine that the Saint was talking about no mercy in hell for the damned. That's different than no mercy while we are alive.

    Here's the passage that bothered me:

    "On 20th October 1903, Our Lord replies to Marie-Julie who begs him not to send punishments: My daughter, sinners are too numerous and too guilty. They have abused my graces. Especially those who have my adorable body at their disposition because of their state, and profane it. No, I can no longer forgive, justice has to be done. Soon you will need all your faith."

    Reading it again, I suppose that passage could be read in the context of God permitting the withdrawal of the restrainer. I just have a problem with Jesus saying "I can no longer forgive". This from Jesus who asked the Father to forgive his murderers?

    A year ago I'd begun reading a book, What Are These Wounds? https://www.amazon.com/Wounds-Cistercian-Mystic-Lutgarde-Aywières/dp/0809149109, wherein St. Lutgarde, translated of course into English, claimed visitations by Christ. At one point He allegedly was so displeased with her (over what? nothing major) He declared He'd never again visit her.

    At that point I stopped reading. It seemed far too HUMAN a situation.

    Later it occurred to me that it might be a faulty translation issue.

    Sometimes even with Scripture things are hard to understand. We just have to place things on brackets and move on. If there isa general sesne that things are fine just to leave things hanging.

    One piece of Scripture I never did understand was when Jesus cursed the poor old fig tree and caused to to wither. This seemed very harsh.

    Then I read something Blessed Catherine Emmerich wrote, she said that when St Joseph and Mary were passing the fig tree years earlier they were hungry but the tree gave no figs even in season. Hence the curse. I thought to myself, 'Ah now it figures''.. (another great pun)

    St Catherine of Sienna wrote in one place that God the Father said that sometimes he strikes sinners down to save them from a worse hell than they are already going to.

    He also told her that often times he rewards people in this life for good actions in this life as they are going to hell in the next and He can't reward them there.

    God writes often in ways that seem very crooked to us.

    St Catherine Laboure ate a piece of the vestment of St. Vincent de Paul:

    On July 18, 1830, the eve of St. Vincent de Paul’s feast day, the novice director gave all the novices a piece of one of St. Vincent de Paul’s vestments. Catherine lay quietly in her bed, telling St. Vincent de Paul of the desire she had nurtured since she was little—the desire to see the Blessed Virgin. She then tore her relic in half and ate one of the pieces. A thought came to her—she was sure she would see the Blessed Virgin that night.

    She slept for two hours. She awoke when her guardian angel, disguised as a small but beautiful child, called her. He said, “Come to the chapel. The Blessed Virgin awaits you.”

    I am going to beat and horrify you on this one Sam:)

    St Margaret Mary Alocoque (who saw the Sacred Heart) at one point drunk the pus of the wounds of the patients she was nursing as a mortification.

    Not recommended by Dr Faucci.:D:D

    An awful lot of the saints did was insane by human reckoning. Many of them , for instance did serious physical harm to themselves by over fasting. St Ignatious of Loyola os a good example.

    St Simon of Stylites and many o the Desert Fathers appear all out nuts, (St Rose of Lima is another example)

    They remind me of lovers who go crazy.

    I like love crazy.

    With saints and mystics we must not always expect the train to stay on the tracks.

    We live this life as though upon a tight rope. Always walking the path between falling into Eternal Damnation or the Safe Haven of our Eternal home.

    Modern Catholics have lost the sense of this. That Life is the Ultimate adventure. Poised on the tight rope between heaven and hell.

    We have assured ourselves that no matter what happens we all going to heaven anyway , no matter what happens.

    Better to go back to the tight rope.

    The Modernist heresy of the Church that God is nice and we are nice and life is is nice is totally boring and will lead to the final boredom of hell itself.

    No wonder we make young people want to puke and run away. we dress ourselves in pink silks of niceness

    He will be a God of surprises for many when judgement comes. He finds fault in the smallest details since He knows us better than we know ourselves.
