I think the intention is to have one modern rite so that the whole lot of us can be updated to the super new correct rite. This rite apparently will be all about talking and listening to one another. Nothing supernatural like transubstantiation. Just talking and listening. Kind of like group Therapy.

The abomination of Desolation in the Temple.

Being forced to speak to and listen to groups of complete strangers sounds like my idea of hell.

Imagine dumping the Eastern Rite! Astonishing, really astonishing. It's a little like throwing your granny under a bus.

Yet many people will come forward to defend it. He is Pope and if the pope wants it then that must be what God wants.

@Michael_Pio Hi Michael. Hope you are well.

The reason that BXVI used the term "emeritus" is that it refers to his status as the "Bishop of Rome." That is, his role as the diocesan bishop. The word "emeritus" is used in the 1983 Code of Canon Law in the following canons:

Can. 185 The title of emeritus can be conferred upon a person who loses an office by reason of age or of resignation which has been accepted.

Can. 402 §1. A bishop whose resignation from office has been accepted retains the title of emeritus of his diocese and can retain a place of residence in that diocese if he so desires, unless in certain cases the Apostolic See provides otherwise because of special circumstances.

The word "emeritus," then, has a technical legal meaning in Canon Law. And the fact that BXVI used that word to describe himself means that he was using it to refer to his status as a diocesan bishop, in his case his office as Bishop of Rome.

The Bishop of Rome is head of the Roman See, the diocese of Rome. He also, by virtue of that office (ex officio) is the head of the Apostolic See, the head of Universal Church based at the Vatican. He has two roles, one particular and one universal.

What BXVI did was legally establish a "vacant see" for the diocese of Rome:

Can. 416 An episcopal see is vacant upon the death of a diocesan bishop, resignation accepted by the Roman Pontiff, transfer, or privation made known to the bishop.

There are then procedures in place for replacing a diocesan bishop in the event of a vacancy. These procedures are described in the Canons directly after Canon 416. But in the case of the Bishop of Rome, a different procedure must be followed because he is also head of the Apostolic See.

But, and this is the important part, when the Apostolic See becomes vacant, the procedures are different:

Can. 359 When the Apostolic See is vacant, the college of cardinals possesses only that power in the Church which is attributed to it in special law.
Therefore, a "special law" must be followed when the Apostolic See is vacant. That special law currently is Universi Dominici Gregis.

However, that special law only kicks in when the Apostolic See is legally vacant. Most people think that the Apostolic See means "the Pope." But that is not correct. The Apostolic See is defined in Canon Law as such:

Can. 361 In this Code, the term Apostolic See or Holy See refers not only to the Roman Pontiff but also to the Secretariat of State, the Council for the Public Affairs of the Church, and other institutes of the Roman Curia, unless it is otherwise apparent from the nature of the matter or the context of the words.

So, when a Pope resigns, the Apostolic See is not legally vacant, according to Canon Law. Only when the Pope dies does the Apostolic See become legally vacant. This is stated in Universi Dominici Gregis:

    14. According to the provisions of Article 6 of the Apostolic Constitution Pastor Bonus,13 at the death of the Pope all the heads of the Dicasteries of the Roman Curia — the Cardinal Secretary of State and the Cardinal Prefects, the Archbishop Presidents, together with the members of those Dicasteries — cease to exercise their office. An exception is made for the Camerlengo of Holy Roman Church and the Major Penitentiary, who continue to exercise their ordinary functions, submitting to the College of Cardinals matters that would have had to be referred to the Supreme Pontiff.

Note that the language DOES NOT say "at the death of the Pope or his lawful resignation." So, when the Pope resigns, the other lawful "heads" of the Apostolic See continue in their office. Therefore, the Apostolic See is not legally "vacant." The Apostolic See only becomes legally vacant after "the death of the Pope," because only upon his death do the other "heads" of the Apostolic See "cease to exercise their office."

And, most importantly for our current papal situation, a new papal election can only be held when "the Apostolic See is lawfully vacant" (UDG, 37):

    37. I furthermore decree that, from the moment when the Apostolic See is lawfully vacant, the Cardinal electors who are present must wait fifteen full days for those who are absent; the College of Cardinals is also granted the faculty to defer, for serious reasons, the beginning of the election for a few days more. But when a maximum of twenty days have elapsed from the beginning of the vacancy of the See, all the Cardinal electors present are obliged to proceed to the election.

So, to sum up. Benedict XVI's resignation was valid. He validly resigned as Bishop of Rome/Roman Pontiff. The Roman See (the diocese of Rome) became legally vacant at that point. But the Apostolic See was not fully, legally vacant until after BXVI died. Therefore, the conclave held in 2013 to elect Bergoglio was illegal and null and void on its face, as it says in UDG:

    76. Should the election take place in a way other than that prescribed in the present Constitution, or should the conditions laid down here not be observed, the election is for this very reason null and void, without any need for a declaration on the matter; consequently, it confers no right on the one elected.

    77. I decree that the dispositions concerning everything that precedes the election of the Roman Pontiff and the carrying out of the election itself must be observed in full, even if the vacancy of the Apostolic See should occur as a result of the resignation of the Supreme Pontiff, in accordance with the provisions of Canon 333 § 2 of the Code of Canon Law and Canon 44 § 2 of the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches.
Bergoglio is a usurper. He is an antipope. His election was illegal because the Apostolic See was not legally vacant at the time of the 2013 Conclave. The Apostolic See was not legally vacant because BXVI was still alive and the other "heads" of the Apostolic See had not legally vacated their offices that were assigned to them by BXVI.

Practically speaking, there is nothing I can do, apart from fasting and prayer, to impact the office of the Papacy. Let us call out to Him enthroned in the heavens to rescue us from this confusing moment.

It'll all be about 'peace' and the 'environment'. Completely worldly...and therefore entirely useless.

Christ will sort all this out, in His own time. At worst, death will eventually rescue us. Hopefully, He'll make His move quickly.

Cardinal Burke reopened our Traditional restored church on Sunday. I am very fond of the old Mass but it went on forever 45 minutes in and they had not even gotten to the Gospel. Apparently it went on two and a half hours. I had to leave then, I had had enough.

I love the old Mass but it just seemed to go on forever and ever 20240630_110945.jpg
