Well, I'll add Sen. Sessions to my list of politicians who are useless. Either he must be intellectually deficient or Trump bought him off.

 

Sherry Weddell, founder of the St. Catherine of Siena institute, had this to say today:

By the way, I have been a registered independent for at least 20 years and am largely apolitical. I am too busy to follow political news and I never talk publicly about how I vote. Every election, I hold my nose and try to discern how to vote best in light of the Church's teaching and NEVER by political party affiliation. If Trump wasn't a major player this time, you would continue not to hear from me because we would be in the realm of normal politics where basic things like platforms and experience and temperament can be compared and contrasted and evaluated.

But Trump is in a category all by himself. His "positions" change so rapidly that one can't depend upon them at all so all one can do is look unblinkingly at the man himself and what he has actually done. He has a long and very public track record and we live in the age of Google.

I am frankly terrified at the thought of a man who has said the things he has said and done the things he has done wielding the power of the Presidency. So, as a matter of conscience, I feel constrained to break my rule of never commenting politically. When Trump is out of the contest, I will go back into my political silence because we will be back in the realm of relatively "normal" candidates where normal political discernment can take place.

Watching Trump is like watching a new strongman like Benito Mussolini rise to power (as conservative commenters have noted in the past day or so.). God help me if I don't acknowledge that reality and stand against it.

[He is] a narcisisst so deaf to moral and human concerns that he won't disavow the KKK even out of mere political expediency. His candidacy is bringing hidden racism right into the open air again. The political PARTY who nominates this man for President deserves to die.

Whitman, who was a co-chairwoman of the national finance committee of Christie's campaign, said in a statement to reporters that Trump would take the country on "a dangerous journey" and that Christie was aware of this.

"Chris Christie's endorsement of Donald Trump is an astonishing display of political opportunism. Donald Trump is unfit to be president", said the statement from Whitman, who is chief executive and president of Hewlett Packard Enterprise and chairman of HP Inc (HPQ.N).

She called on Christie's donors not to follow him to Trump, who has predominantly funded his campaign with personal loans. Representatives of Christie and Trump did not respond to requests for comment.

Most politicians are narcissists to some degree, perhaps even to a large degree, but Trump has them all beat hands down. Looking more into Sessions, he has racist connections, so I guess this makes a lot of sense.

Yes - well, I wouldn't vote for either of them, but I fear the rise of a fascist demagogue whose thin skinned narcissism could cause World War III more than I fear more of the status quo Democrat idiocy on moral issues. Also, I believe that the GOP as a party is dead if Trump wins, maybe even if he just gets the nomination, or at least it would be dead as far as a party which could get my support.
