And so we are now being treated to a wave of Donald Trump fatalism. Yes, he's defied expectations in a pretty remarkable way. Yes, he's won three of the first four GOP contests. Yes, he's ahead in the polls in the states coming up. Yes, he has an easier path to victory than any other candidate.

But only four states—about 1.2 million people—have actually cast ballots. Trump has won about a third of the votes cast; Cruz and Rubio have each won a bit over a fifth. Trump leads in delegates with 81 out of the 133 selected—less than seven percent of those he needs to win the nomination. He trails Cruz in the biggest of the Super Tuesday states, Texas, and while Trump will almost certainly take the most delegates on March 1, it's unclear whether he'll win more like half or two-thirds of them. Even if he wins two-thirds, the March 15 winner-take-all states of Ohio, Florida, and Illinois will be fiercely contested.

And this is all before further debates, before any sustained television advertising assault on Trump, while the other candidates are still (foolishly) sniping at each other instead of taking on Trump. And in a circumstance where the frontrunner has unusual vulnerabilities.


So it's not the time for fatalism. It's the time to make the case against Trump, and to urge the other candidates to do a better job of making their own case (e.g., Cruz could follow Jeffrey Anderson's advice here, Rubio could remember that to be the man, you need to beat the man, and could actually take on Trump in tomorrow night's debate). More broadly, it's time to behave as active and self-governing citizens rather than as passive and navel-gazing fatalists.

I'm completely unaware of this! If it is true, there are no words that I would offer to defend this! None....

   February 25, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) -- In a February 8 interview with one of Italy’s most prominent dailies, Corriere Della Serra, Pope Francis praised Italy’s leading proponent of abortion – Emma Bonino -- as one of the nation’s “forgotten greats,” comparing her to great historical figures such as Konrad Adenauer and Robert Schuman. Knowing that his praise of her may be controversial, the Pope said that she offered the best advice to Italy on learning about Africa, and admitted she thinks differently from us. “True, but never mind,” he said. “We have to look at people, at what they do.”
   
   At 27, Bonino had an illegal abortion and then worked with the Information Centre on Sterilization and Abortion which boasted over 10,000 abortions. There are famous photos of Bonino performing illegal abortions using a homemade device operated by a bicycle pump. Arrested for the then-illegal activity she spent a few days in jail and was acquitted and entered politics.
   
   When she was appointed Italy’s foreign minister in 2013 there was a general outcry from life and family leaders at the appalling situation.
   
   Responding to the Pope’s praise of Bonino, pro-life leaders in Italy expressed disbelief. “How can the pope praise a woman that is best known in Italy for practicing illegal abortion and promoting abortion?” commented Msgr. Ignacio Barreiro, who was until last year the head of the Rome office of Human Life International.
   
   Luca Volonte, an Italian politician and the president of the pro-life Novae Terrae Foundation, told LifeSiteNews he believed the Pope “was not really informed about how much Mrs. Bonino has done in Italy and at the international level to promote abortion and euthanasia.” Even though he admits “she did well in Egypt,” he adds that even there “she promoted her anti-life values.” The Pope, said Volonte, “was wrong and worse were the members of His secretariat for not informing him.”
   
   The Pope’s possible ignorance of Bonino’s stance is unlikely given his justifications in the interview. She has been for decades the most prominent supporter of abortion in Italy. Moreover, the Pope already received criticism for his contact with Bonino in 2015 when he called her about her cancer and invited her to the Vatican.​
   
   At the end of the day we shall be judged on love.

Donald J. Trump on Sunday morning used his Twitter feed to post a quote attributed to Benito Mussolini, the founder of the fascist movement, from a parody account. The tweet compared the Italian dictator to Mr. Trump, the Republican front-runner for the presidential nomination.

The tweet was posted by Mr. Trump’s account at 6:13 a.m.

Two different trump positions on this:

Asked on NBC's "Meet the Press" about the tweet and whether Trump realized it was a Mussolini quote when he retweeted it, the GOP front-runner said he did realize and that it's an "interesting quote."

"Look, Mussolini was Mussolini. It's okay to--it's a very good quote, it's a very interesting quote, and I know it," he said. "I saw it. I saw what--and I know who said it. But what difference does it make whether it's Mussolini or somebody else? It's certainly a very interesting quote."

Oh dear God...if this story is true...and accurate....I'm speechless. If our pope has praised her, rather than condemn her abortion career, then we have a big, big problem sitting in the chair of Peter. It is so unbelievable to me, that I cannot even find the words to express my outrage at this...

Hard to believe primary results, Trump very well may get the nomination. Is Donald going to have a conversion experience? Right now and not to argue but we have to know, Rubio or Cruz, which one is most following God? Why do I think it is Cruz, Rubio has the grace given in the 7 Sacraments. ??? We can lose God's grace.

I am a single issue person. I ask again, which one of the two is for no exceptions to abortion? Maybe neither
one is so it is back to I can't mark the box for president next November.
