This has to be such a difficult time for your family, especially so close to Christmas. How old are his children?
The children are 6 and 4 year old boys and a 2 year old girl. We are worried about how they will turn out because their home life has been terrible, they say a lot of bad words they learned from their parents, and the boys are big troublemakers. Both parents are very hostile to religion, but the children are baptized. I was encouraged yesterday when I picked up the 4 year old from school. He had gotten some gifts from his class, and he told my 3 little daughters that he had gifts for them......and he gave them his gifts that were meant for him, freely. I was very impressed with his generosity! I got the McDonald's for lunch, and he told me to make sure I got him some barbecue sauce. I did, and when we got home my 4 year old daughter said she would like some barbecue sauce. We only had the one small container, enough for just one person. My nephew gave it to her with no hesitation, even though that meant he had none. Children have such beautiful hearts.
I hope this cones across right Heidi. A good priest once explained to me that those who are in the depth of sin, those who oppose God, those who are mired in the mud in their weakness are actually exactly where they should be too be saved. I know, it's a crazy way of looking at it, but too me it's the truth. In my times of utter despair and weakness, it's when God is most present and maybe when I'm most inclined to listen. Yes,it's still a choice that your brother-in-law will need to make. But, he has you all as a supportive and loving family who are being light to his darkness. It sounds like you are not condemning him- but only saying turn around. Yes, we are all sinners - none better than the other - all where we need to be- knocking at the door of Mercy. What a gift you are giving him! And the kids will be fine as already exemplified by your nephew. Peace and prayers for you all in this season where Light overcomes darkness.
Heidi, So sorry I didn't see this thread until now. Your brother's family is in my prayers! May Joe seek the treatment he needs and may Jesus draw him to Himself! Safe in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary!
