Is the Crucifix ‘anti-Semitic’? Is the Mass hate-speech? A Catholic lady, a former Miss California apparently, has been booted off Trump’s ‘anti-semitism’ commission for asking if her Catholic Faith’s preventing her from being a Zionist was an example of antisemitism. This was not denied, instead she was expelled. Looks like The Church is going to be deemed ‘antisemitic’ for claiming to be the New Israel. Will our ecumenism-loving American Pope defy them?
I am wondering more and more about Israel, Zionists and to be honest Jews generally recently. Dark thoughts. Brooding thoughts. The Epstein thing hasn't helped.
St Paul said they were the enemies of the whole human race. The Talmud indicates that the Jews despise Christians more than anyone else.
Things are so terrible and dark and kind of lonely at the moment if we want to stay Faithful. I try to do as St Paul said and seek all that is good and true and light. As he also wrote nothing will separate us from the love of Christ. If these poor souls walk or run the wide road to hell well that is there choice / But as for me and mine I choose to keep walking the Pilgrim Path on the road to prayer. Nothing at all stops me doing so. What the Church needs most at this time as Pope St John Paul 2 said is saints. Let us strive to be so. Joshua 24:15 15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Yes, it will get a lot more dark and lonely. But we are in good company, lots of people from the Apostles on down trod the same path. But all this darkness will lead us to great holiness if we stand firm. One thing about the last two Popes they forced me to read up and restudy my Faith a lot to understand what on Earth was going on. The Cross is a Blessing as always. Every saint in heaven are jealous of us living in these Dark Days.
I am embarrassed to admit that up until now I have not actually read the Bible in its entirety. But I started “The Bible in a Year” podcast last month and it has really helped put things going on today in perspective. God the Father himself anointed Saul, David and Solomon as Kings of Israel and they all did horrible, horrible things in their reigns. Saul tried to kill David. David had his lover’s husband killed in battle. Solomon had 400 wives and 300 concubines. They all disobeyed the Lord in many ways. I don’t know where this new pope is taking us but I do know that Jesus promised us that the gates of hell would not prevail against His Church. So even though there is nothing new under the sun— I’m going to keep my eyes on Jesus.
I read a Chapter of the Bible every day before Mass. I have downloaded the Douai Bible onto my Kindle and read it on my phone. It has been a real joy and I am currently on the Book of Chronicles, funnily enough around about the same time period as you mention. The bible reads to me as a succession of really great interesting stories all of them with a great moral point. One thing strikes me is the passingness of people and things. All those people being born, growing up , loving, hating, fighting, growing, striving and eventually dying and a new generation being born. But from the perspective of the Bible all that really counts is how they relate to God. Everything has a heavens eye view of things.
I think the SSPX really contain a tiny, tiny minority. Perhaps the real schism will come when the Cardinals start to go into action? I noticed a really furious statement about synodality in Germany from Cardinal Mueller. I notice another German Cardinal has also withdrawn from synodality. So perhaps a kind of informal schism has already taken place?
