The letter, published on Tuesday, was addressed to the German bishops’ conference and the largest and most influential lay group in the country, the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK). The vicars general, representing the archbishops of Berlin, Essen, Hamburg, Hildesheim, Limburg, Magdeburg, Münster, Osnabrück, Speyer and Trier, wrote that they considered “fundamental reform of the Church in Germany to be urgently necessary, indeed essential.” According to Katholisch.de, a news portal administered by the German bishops’ conference, they said they wanted a Church "in which plurality and diversity are desired and permitted” as only an open and diverse church has the chance to “remain effectively present” in society. And they see the “synodal path” as means to achieve this. Cardinal Reinhard Marx, the president of the German bishops’ conference, has said the two-year synodal path of meetings proposes to tackle “key issues” arising from the clerical sex abuse crisis, ostensibly with the aim of helping the Church align with the times. In particular, the bishops are set to question the Catholic Church’s perennial teaching on priestly celibacy, human sexuality and the role of women in the Church. The ZdK, which openly supports ending priestly celibacy, ordaining women and blessing same-sex couples in churches, is to work closely with the German bishops during the process. In their joint letter, the vicars general wrote that the crisis in the Catholic Church and “the many critical questions” they have provoked from people and the media are a “sign of the times” and a “challenge that God gives us for us.” For this reason, and after “deep and honest conversations,” they said they are “convinced that it is God’s will to take significant steps of change.” And they added that if the Church persists with a “business as usual” approach, she cannot do justice to her mission. Noting that such changes can be painful, the bishops’ representatives said they hoped the “synodal path” would engender “an honest and open dialogue, characterized by mutual trust and respect and the willingness for mutual understanding.” But they also notably ask the bishops’ conference and the ZdK to “refrain from insinuations and even accusations of lacking ‘orthodoxy.’” They said a reliance on “God’s spirit” will help participants to take “reasonable steps” to renew the Church. Fr. Martin isn't the first priest in the history of the Church to us his priesthood for evil. Judas used his friendship with Jesus to identify Him to His captors. All that odious priest does is draw attention from faithful Catholics being subjected to real discrimination and persecution. I wouldn't waste an email on him. His superiors will answer before God for all the evil they permit him to spread - for every single soul lost due to his malevolent twisting of the true Faith. It appears that they would let the priest enter the church to say Mass but not the parishioners. This is what discrimination looks like. Fr. Martin and his uber rich, pampered lavender lobby are a blight on the face of Catholicism, as are his enabling superiors. I remember a time when we Catholics prayed for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ. Now we pray for plants and what is euphemistically named the "other" which never means faithful, suffering Catholics.
But, meanwhile on earth, some parents would like to prevent their offspring who might attend supposed Catholic institutions of education from being influenced by such promoted speakers of question and therefore need to alert the highest authority w/ the ability to do something and who should also be of similar concern when obviously the school authorities are of no help nor honor. On hindsight it might appear to many that we are at the place we find ourselves today because those in authority were not called out at the appropriate times and only the victims were left to attempt to defend themselves alone against such powers.
The time for those parents to worry about what their offspring were being exposed to was when their children submitted applications to Jesuit universities. I find it hard to believe that there's a Catholic on the planet who is surprised that Fordham are providing a platform for Georgetown's Fr. Martin.
100% agree. My husband went to Georgetown and loved it. He does not agree with the changes. But his sisters who also graduated from there will defend the school no matter what it does. They find nothing wrong with its current administration. Sad.
The PF interview where he talks about America may have been 2 years ago but the "content" is surfacing now. I had a gut feeling when PF came to America in 2015. He was touring a grocery store and there is a photo floating around with him pointing at a cookie aisle and saying America has so much (paraphrased). It sounded mean then and it sounds mean now. In one of his latest "speeches" he laments that we need to reorganize and rethink our food because some are obese (America????) and some are starving. Again mean. Yes, we are fat and comfortable in America. We have been the bearer of much evil and unrest in the world. I see it and I know this is true. Still, I believe this is the govt and not the people, as a whole. America has an over abundance but does the pontiff realize that America is extremely generous when the world needs something. The PEOPLE of America rush to help in disasters, famines, etc. The people here are good people. He over looks that. America also allows the largest immigration numbers every year, even with the limiting of the immigrants now, we let in an enormous amount. Ridicule and shaming no longer works on me because it is over used. Stop the Alinsky tactics and open your eyes PF, with all due respect. He hates that we have so much and yet he has fresh food prepared daily and a large wall around his house. He has people that clean his house and he has jets and cars and a large staff at his ready. He has security always. I don't have that. I know most Americans will not lie down for a NWO. We won't. Many of us will die because it is in our DNA to fight for what is right. The people, not the govt. The average American is good. The govt sucks. We are trying to clean it but it is a long road. I do not want the NWO. Will it come? Not from eating too much good food, but from eating too much of the wrong food, food which does not sate the appetite and leaves one constantly hungry. It is a problem, certainly, and suggests injustices that need to be overcome, but it is a gross simplification to describe it as simply the result of plenty. The Pope might be better employed asking questions of his own country, asking why it has welched on debt owed so often, in national terms a form of stealing, and investigating why a country that was once one of the wealthiest in the world has become a chronic economic basket-case. Could it have anything to do with the Peronism he seems so attached to? Is it honest to blame the economic woes of one nation on the success of another, without taking into account this nation's own responsibility? Does the Pope have any conception that, thanks to industrialised agriculture in the developed countries that he disapproves of, more people are being fed, and most of them quite well, than at any time in history. Glib notions of socialist justice only imply two things: virtue-signalling pharisaism and mass-starvation. As the Second Vatican Council clearly states, the Pope should not appropriate the authority of his office for matters beyond his area of responsibility. "Whatever is mine is yours", the Christian ideal, never translates into "whatever is yours is mine".
