The two discussed with Arroyo the fact that throughout the Church’s sexual abuse crisis, it has been mostly teenage boys and men subjected to the abuse. “Largely it’s not a pedophile crisis,” Yore said. “We know from the John Jay report, 81-percent of the victims were males, mostly teens. And we know because our subclass of predators are all male, this is a male-on-male crime, and primarily with teens between the ages of 14 to 17. Those are the victims.” “The grand jury report also highlighted that,” she said. “Seminarians who are over the age of consent, that they too were victims, nevertheless, they’re crimes, all of them, some federal crimes, some state crimes.” Arroyo asked his guests about Washington D.C. Cardinal Donald Wuerl, implicated in the grand jury report for having shuffled predator priests around to different assignments while bishop of Pittsburgh, and insisting since the report’s release he will not resign amid calls for him to step down. Arroyo observed that Wuerl had done some things while in Pittsburgh to counter abuse, which had been noted in the report as well. “The grand jury, noting the good things that he did, also noted that he did protect predator priests and move them around, and did the sort of things that they’ve always done,” responded Miner. “That website that went up (The Wuerl Record) came down very quickly and that was partly because a great many sensitive Catholics recognized that once again, a cardinal of the Church was treating the sex abuse crisis as a public relations problem.” “It’s not a public relations problem,” he added, “it’s a problem of criminality.” Miner continued, pointing to the homosexual element of the abuse scandal while calling out pro-LGBT Jesuit priest and Vatican advisor Fr. James Martin for downplaying the problem of abuse in seminaries. “And it’s also, if I may say, and this is I know something that people don’t want to hear,” he said, “and certainly James Martin doesn’t want to hear it - It’s a homosexual problem.” “The numbers show that, even if the authors of the John Jay report have suggested that, ‘well, it wasn’t really a homosexual problem,’ that’s what the people in Spotlight at the Boston Globe said; it’s not a homosexual problem – Well, I’m sorry – it is.” Referencing the 2005 Vatican document under Pope Benedict XVI prohibiting declared homosexual men to the seminary, Miner said further. “Now why would he have done that unless it was his understanding that it’s a homosexual problem, not just a predator problem?” Miner cited recently deceased sociologist and clergy abuse expert Richard Sipe in saying that at least some 30% of Catholic priests have a homosexual orientation. Miner thought the number had also been estimated as high as 50-60%, but said he didn’t know for sure. “But I do know that the problem, despite what people like James Martin say, is just that,” said Miner. “And he (Martin) criticized us today, people like me, for suggesting that it’s a homosexual problem. He says that we’re simply mean people who are attacking unnecessarily gay priests and the LGBT community.” Yore and Miner echoed the thought of many among the laity that culpable bishops must be held legally responsible for any part they’ve played in the abuse. Yore added that as a Church, “We have to focus on what is the cause of these children, young people, seminarians, continually being abused by predatory priests - and that’s what we have to stop.” “And one of the ways of doing that is the disciplining, the firing of bishops who have been protecting them for decades,” she said. “And this homosexual network that protects and promotes its own is what is causing this continual cycle of abuse in the seminaries, in the rectories, in the sacristies, in the schools.” The USCCB statement released Thursday with a three-point plan to investigate MCcarrick’s actions, streamline reporting of bishops’ misdeeds and refine the process of filing complaints against bishops is not sufficient in addressing the crisis, Miner said. “It doesn’t even come close,” he said. “The way we address this crisis is the way Pennsylvania has addressed the crisis. We need 50 more grand jury investigations. [...] Only then will we begin to know the scope of the problem, said Miner. Yore added that the solution is top-to-bottom investigations by federal and state authorities. “It’s this only way that lay people are going to be able to find out what’s really going on in the Church,” she said, “and the victims need to be able to have the right to be able to speak to law enforcement. Sorry, Carol, if I gave the impression that you were baying for his blood. I didn't that that for a minute. Plenty of people are. I was joking about sending him and Fr. Martin to Saudi, although perhaps a spell there would help Fr. Martin appreciate that Catholic teaching on homosexuality isn't nearly as draconian as he likes to make out. I haven't seen those posters. Most churches I've been to used a huge picture of Pope Francis to promote the WMF. I heard one report that they're very happy with the demand for tickets. I don't know anyone who's going although that could be because I don't discuss it with anyone.

It was common for abusive priests to create opportu- nities to be alone with minors, for example, during retreats. These men often integrated themselves into the families of the victims. Minors who were abused typically did not disclose their victimization; the signs of abuse were not detected by those close to them. This silence, typical of the period of the 1950s through the 1990s, is one reason why the abusive behavior persisted. ............. Priests who sexually abused minors did not differ significantly from other priests on psychological or intelligence tests but had vul- nerabilities, intimacy deficits, and an absence of close personal relationships before and during seminary. Even criminals have morals...what has happened to society. If a child rapist or predator enters a jail in the United States...most are beaten and/or killed. All these pedophilia people should be immediately be taken to police station and charged. I can't believe evil is allowed to grow. And any Bishop that was involved, in any way, should immediately resign. I can't believe there is even an option. Too Much. And we might be a church of Mercy but if you break law you must go to jail. Church must stop protecting evil.
I have to be honest here and say that I didn't find the pizzagate stuff convincing. Regarding the spiral, most Catholics here wouldn't know anything about pizzagate or those symbols. I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that their inspiration came from similar artwork on our ancient Christian works like the illustrated Gospels, decorated chalices, etc. All I see there is a picture of children doing a kind of "eye spy" impression. If I looked through old family photos I'm sure there are some of children doing the same thing. Try to keep things in proportion. There is a definite impression of a homo theme to the WMF. I strongly suspect that this is a result of a homo culture especially among the clergy at all levels. Assuming Pope Francis isn't himself homosexual, I think it likely that people who have his ear have been bleating on about being victims and the Church needing to soothe their hurt feelings. It's also possible that Bishops and others close to the Pope are afraid of the very powerful lavender lobby both in society and within the Church and they are hoping that we can all be on good terms if the Church eases off on its teaching about sodomy being sinful. Combine that with clerics (and most likely the Pope is one of them) who have dissented from Church teaching against artificial birth control, fornication, adultery, and possibly abortion, and you have a majority in control of the Church and events like the WMF. I expect that the WMF as well as the Pennsylvania report will be used to pressurise Bishops at the next Synod to "develop" Humane Vitae, the ordination of women beginning with deacons, and some sort of sop to the lavender lobby. Of course, we can all pray that I'm wrong and that Pope Francis will surprise us by reiterating Church teaching clearly and unambiguously. We'll just have to wait and see how many times "nuance", "accompaniment", "discernment", etc. are used to turn what once was either black or white into a vague shade of grey. Pray and fast.
If all the bishops collectively resigned, it would present Pope Francis with the opportunity of replacing them all with his own choices.
Sounds like a plan to me. And then appoint new bishops from the Fathets of Mercy the FSSP and the Benedictines from Clear Creek Monastery—for openers.
But that's not what you would get. How would you feel about the likes of Fr. James Martin being a Bishop and then a Cardinal? A few more like him in the US and from other countries would give them a lot of influence at the next Conclave.
