A couple more reports on that review they commissioned in 2010 and what they did to exclude as many cases as possible:
    https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-44565414
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/20...-england-rather-face-criminal-records-checks/
    ]
Note this from the BBC report (Archbishop of Canterbury is the most senior cleric in the CofE):
"Documents also suggest the Church hierarchy worked behind the scenes to limit damage to the reputation of the then-Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams.
In an email exchange in October 2010 - during the Chichester sex abuse scandal - a press adviser to Dr Williams said "the real danger here is that these stories are used to suggest that the CofE is as bad as Rome, both in abuse and cover-up" and "the aim must be to distance the current ABC (Archbishop of Canterbury) from it as much as poss".

Some (I don't know whether it's all or just a few) CofE Bishops sit in the House of Lords. Over the years, there have been plenty of whispers about scandals in Westminster but somehow there is never enough proof to make anything stick. Here's an example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westminster_paedophile_dossier If memory serves me, Leon Brittan died while the inquiry was ongoing, was subsequently exonerate and his family got an apology from the police. As far as I know, the dossier was never found. British forum members might have a better grasp of the details than I because I didn't really follow the case.

Just about every major religion and very many organisations working with children have had their scandals. With Protestantism spread across so many denominations and national churches, a branch of the church in one country doesn't get tarnished with the scandals of a branch of the same church in a different country. Likewise with the Presbyterians, Methodists and others.

There was actually an organisation in England in the 1970's lobbying for the legalisation of paedophilia. The organisation was legal and only disbanded when one of their leaders was convicted of being a Russian spy. Everybody had forgotten about it until a few years ago when the Daily Mail got the knives out for some senior members of the Labour Party who had been prominent in an organisation to which the paedophile group were affiliated. In this BBC report about it, the Beeb are playing down the support that group got from left wingers and the homosexual lobby, but they can't change the fact that the group was legal and their most vocal opposition came from people like Mary Whitehouse who complained for many years about the BBC. The report has a video clip of a BBC interview with two of the group's leaders. Granted, the interviewer didn't go easy on them, nevertheless, the BBC gave air time to paedophiles: https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-26352378

Paedophiles were pushing strong for respectability in the seventies. It was really a front for homosexuals who co-opted other paedophilic perverts to mask their predominance. I suspect they drew back merely to allow an irresistable opportunity for the destruction of the Church to play out. If paedophilia had achieved respectability at this time, it would have been more difficult to attack the Church for its associated sins.

How could men of God not discern the aura of evil that surrounded Theodore McCarrick?
One angle to this entire McCarrick situation is the diabolical. Fr. Z noted that Theodore McCarrick was a horrible liar. In fact, so fiendish were McCarrick's lies that the priest from Madison points out that they were "nothing short of diabolical".
In Sacred Scripture, the Prophet Moses, St. Paul and St. Jude condemn homosexuality as an abomination before Almighty God. Church Father, St. John Chrysostom warned us of the demonic aspect of homosexuality. Let there be no mistake: homosexuality is especially diabolical. It mocks God's creation, it directly profanes the Sacrament of Marriage, and mocks the sanctity of the Marital Act. It attacks martial unity, the family, and life. It attacks and blasphemes the Love and Unity of the Blessed Trinity.
St. Paul and St. Jude link homosexuality with godlessness. St. John Chrysostom describes homosexuality as "hell appearing before its time".
Yet, this grave satanic evil has entered into the Church, into the very priesthood. It has turned these debased men into modern day Judases, and they, in turn are trying to turn the Catholic Church into "a den of thieves", with themselves as servants of Baal.

What could be so funny in the presence of a man of such evil?
One other question remains. Perhaps some of you have experienced it. In the presence of someone who is evil you feel it, you just know there is something wrong.

How is it that so many churchmen - so they keep claiming - never suspected, never had this feeling; this impression that they were in the presence of a man possessed by evil? We are now speaking of bishops. Men, who - presumably - are saying Mass every day, the Breviary, daily meditation, a Holy Hour, administering the Sacraments through visiting the sick, the disabled, spending time with the poor. Strangely, men who devote so much of their days to prayer and charitable works, were unable to feel the aura of overwhelming evil around McCarrick. In fact, McCarrick was billed on Fr. Thomas Rosica's Salt and Light as a "A tireless leader who has helped the poor and disenfranchised, the Cardinal has sought justice and promoted peace". How is it possible for such an eminent churchman to not detect pure evil? Even worse: how was it that Pope Francis did not detect the evil emanating from this horror?

We are told, not one, NOT ONE suspected. Interesting. Not one - so they claim - felt he was in the presence of evil. Strange. Very, very strange.
Let us conclude with total trust in Christ. He is in complete control of His Church. He is allowing this as a scourge and punishment for infidelity of most Catholics. God is a jealous God. He wants all or nothing. For decades, far too many Catholics, wanted to just turn up in church on a Sunday, and then go back home for the rest of the week and live "pagan-lite". Well, God will not be mocked.

There is something we can all do. Our Lord commands us to pray for the salvation of souls, even for our enemies, even for those who are His enemies. Let us therefore firstly, pray for the victims, that they be given peace and healing. Let us pray that the criminal infiltrators repent, convert and expose the homosexual network as a beginning towards reparation. Evil as McCarrick is, the graces are there - just like they were there for Judas - to repent and convert. On his decision, hangs his eternity.

I was wondering about this recognition of evil myself. It is not just Cardinal McCarrick but the endless list of evil, very, very evil priests, Bishops and Cardinals who have been able to get away with serial abuse for decades without discovery. I can well understand someone not spotting that another person was evil, it happens all the time, sadly for truly people have their own camouflage. Of course they have, otherwise they would never get away with anything.

But priests and Bishops and Cardinals you would expect to be holy, in the case of Cardinals, those who stand in shoes of the Apostles very holy indeed with a very special presence of the Holy Spirit. Cardinals like McCarrick was known to many of them for decades, did not even one know at once they were in the presence of pure evil? Of course some did, but had not the power to act. However his fellow Cardinals and Bishops, did none of those with the power to act not act? Where all of them blind?

I suppose the question could be put back to front. If you were in the presence of a saint would you know it? Well maybe not at first. But after a while, well after a while...

Think about it yourself. If you lived in close proximity to a truly evil person, even lived with him in the same building while, wouldn't it become very obvious to yourself if you were a person of prayer at all?

By their fruits shall we know them, but not if we look the other way or decide to be 'discreet'. Father Rosica's description of McCarrick is more like that of a politician or social worker than a bishop. As the song goes, 'sometimes satan comes as a man of peace'. Christ, however, said He came not to bring peace, but a sword. It is time for our honourable priests and bishops, if there are any, to draw their swords.

As an aside, I remember reading somewhere that even the demons despise homosexuality, but use it as a weapon to destroy souls. It is a very effective one. As you point out, prayer, bringing down God's graces upon us all, good and evil alike, is even more effective.

The student rebellions of 1968, in Europe at least, featured a strong element of paedophilia, with Daniel Cohn-Bendit probably the most notorious example. In retrospect, I am beginning to suspect that such perversions were the prime motivations for these revolutionaries, with the other political radicalisation nothing but a mask or rationalisation to cover up the real agenda, an attempt to lend a spurious respectability to the real poison. When one considers pictures such as the one featured above and the confirmed links of such as Bill Clinton with a convicted paedophile, not to mention so many rumours of paedophilia in circles close to the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign, I begin to suspect that nothing has really changed. All the radical politics is little more than a Trojan Horse to conceal the main agenda. Note the 'NAMbLA' symbol at the bottom of the ANTIFA poster above. There lies the real engine of 'hope and change'.

The irrational rage against Trump is explained by this. They know that the election of Trump is a symbol of all those people who would oppose their evil agenda, a sign that people are finally beginning to recognise what they're at.

Homosexuality is such a strange sin, a real witches brew. I read somewhere about how many creative people are and where homosexual people . We have only to think of the arts and , designers for instance. I recall the old saying,

'Never let your daughter become a barmaid, nor your son a barber'.

I was listneing to an Irshman who became the greatest current maker of hats, on BBC 4's ,'Desert Island Disc's' ' One of the things that struck me was when he mentioned his two greatest friends had committed suicide. This although they were both rich, famous and very, very successful celebreties. N one who is far from God and God's Natural Plan can ever be happy which is why the suiicde rate for homosexuals is astronomical. Five times the average in youg homosexuals.
Even for prostitutes life is neither long nor happy. Along with this a thousand illness and woes beset them..or for anyone sexually depraved. Yet the world praises them as , 'Normal'. But how is any of this , 'Normal? TO become very ill of different diseases, to be pathologically depressed, to commit suicide, to die young?

I am not too convinced there is really such a thing as mental illness, except in the case of organic conditions. The late notable psychiatrist, Thomas Szasz (an atheist and no friend of the Catholic Church), wrote an interesting book to this effect. Certainly, all diagnosis of mental illness is entirely subjective. There are no blood tests, or definitive physical symptoms, that one can use for support. Scans or x-rays are worthless. I wonder is the cause of such so-called mental illnesses a struggling with conscience or defective thinking? It must be difficult to maintain the illusion that a mixing of the reproductive and faecal excretory systems represents normative behaviour. The frustration and sheer expenditure of mental energy that would be required to persist with such false worldviews must necessarily lead to depression of mood. Perhaps the irreconcilibility of contradictions eventually leads to suicidal despair. One would be mocked in progressive quarters to suggest that hearing voices and multiple personalities might be more accurately described as demonic possession, but the psychiatric theories are devoid of an iota of proof. We are all aware, presumably, although like every other subject I can only speak for myself, that thoughts come into our heads. From where do they come? More precisely, from who? The progressives counter that thoughts arise 'spontaneously', as if the assertion itself is sufficient to prove it. Yet, there is absolutely no mechanism available to explain how thoughts can come from nowhere, out of nothing. Freudians will posit that they emerge from the 'unconscious' or 'subconscious', without ever having explained or located such a thing or phenomenon, or whatever they think it is. To give him his due, Jung, who in contrast to Freud considered Man's religious impulse his most important one (Freud, of course, thought everything was sourced in our sexual impulse), may have approached closer to reality with his theory of a 'collective unconscious'. I don't know where 'spontaneous' thoughts come from, but if this collective notion extended to a collection of angels and demons, I would be more inclined to accept it. The Church tells us that temptations are of the devil. The idea that a devil puts the thought of doing that very thing which I shouldn't into my head makes perfect sense, unlike the unproven theories of the psychiatrists. Thoughts are generated by beings, not cerebral matter. Atoms and molecules, electrical impulses and neurochemicals, which are ultimately more of the same, will never generate a thought, just beings, whether good or bad.

These poor perverts have become entangled in irrational and unnatural thoughts and temptations. It is their premises, the idea that two people of the same sex can have sexual intercourse (as opposed to the mutual masturbation that is all it really amounts to), or that one can be a woman trapped in the body of a man, which are irrational and false. The exercise of their reason on these utter falsehoods inevitably leads to a very high incidence of depression (often caused by an inability to reconcile internal identity with external reality) and suicide. Chesterton gave the best definition of insanity that I've ever encountered. He said men who become mad have not lost their reason, but rather they have lost everything else but their reason. Their reason then compounds their errors.

On the other hand, the same people assert with a straight face that any man can, at the drop of a hat, declare himself a woman and this 'woman' can redeclare himself a man just as instantly. Logically, if one can effortlessly assume the emotional and sexual panorama of a member of the opposite sex, it seems reasonable to ask why a paedophile (or a homosexual, for that matter) cannot just as effortlessly adopt the persona of a non-paedophile. Of course, they are just being disingenuous. They know full well that paedophilia is chosen behaviour, and that there is no evidence whatsoever to indicate anything 'hard-wired' about it. But, behaviour implies responsibility and these fiends are keen to behave as they wish without anyone being able to charge them for their crimes. In contrast, there is overwhelming and irrefutable evidence that a man is a man and can be nothing else, but their twisted thinking allows them to ignore these facts. It is absolutely imperative that all this propaganda is given no credibility, whatsoever. Unfortunately, there are many in the Church falling over themselves to embrace this satanic insanity.

I read recently where a group of UK lesbians have begun to dissociate themselves from the transgenderists, because, understandably, they are no longer willing to tolerate the notion of men deciding to become 'women' and then choosing, as 'women', the option of a 'lesbian' orientation. Let us pray that these diabolical disorientations eventually collapse within themselves from their insane self-contradictions.

You know, when we have become reduced to talking about subjects as vile as these, we can assume we have hit rock-bottom, a hole so deep that only the abortionists could drill so equally close to Hell. There is nothing I, for one, can conceive of as being more evil than these. Perhaps, we are nearing the beginning of the end. Chastisements are beginning to look almost attractive. The world, if it doesn't quickly and emphatically catch on, is going to have it coming to it.

Yes but iof you lived with him or worked closely with him for years.

I wonder if partly they might be in denial themselves. Ex Cardinal McCarrick said he had, "no recollection', of evil events. Perhaps in a sense he was right. He ahd buried it very deeply within himself. Hence he could lead such a double life.

I sometimes think that many, many people who wake up to find themselves in hell will be truly astonished to find themselves there and wonder how this came to be.

Actually it is not too long ago that homosexuality was classified as a mental illness.

I think often wrong doing and evil is often considered a mental illness when it is a disease of the soul. Possesion is a good example of this. Also sociopaths.

The Church made a huge mistake (or, recent events could lead one to suspect, a deliberate evasion) by turning to sex counsellors (many of them avid followers of the depraved Kinsey) at the beginning of the emergence of priestly abuse. They treated as 'illness' what would rightly once have adamantly been regarded as sin. Instead of trying to cure deviants of what was their conscious and deliberate choices to grievously sin, they should have called in the police and defrocked the guilty. Instead, 'cured' deviants returned and were redeployed to sin again. It brings up the appalling suspicion of whether many high-ranking Churchmen have Faith at all. They opted for the materialist explanation of abuse in precedence to the theological one. Has much of the Church become an opportune meeting-place for sexual, primarily homosexual, deviants who only go through the motions of their priestly role in order to conceal their true ambitions, motions which, as one would expect from atheists and agnostics, consist mainly of an emphasis on Marxist-style social justice?
