Oh my. Does the pope consider Cardinal Sarah and the African Church to be fundamentalists?!? https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/p...alist-catholics-dismisses-condom-ban-as-unimp
It seems like Pope Francis is saying mortal sin is 'Not the problem' The problem being 'environmental injustice'. Have I read it right?
Oh Dear, more muddy waters. Each journey - a new plane ride - and prepared (not so off the cuff) remarks. I can see the headlines in the Sun - "Pope sanctions condom use". I would love to know his definition of a Catholic fundamentalist?
I've got to hold my tongue. Between the in flight interview on the return flight to Rome, and the bovine excrement being shoveled for the globull warming summit, I've had more than enough. I'm going to have to take a vacation that is totally off grid if this Apostolic Exploitation gets published next week.
So you never assess situations or people Mac? Or do you just judge? If you and Brian keep on digging that hole it won't be China that that you'll find yourself in.....just my humble assessent of your situation. We will just have to agree to differ....strongly.
I don't think its bovine excrement that's at play here but bovine spongiform encephalitis. There's a few mad cows here.
For me, the lifesitenews website is the religious equivalent of the Sun newspaper or similar. For those interested in reading and understanding what the Holy Father said on the matter of condom use, I copy the relevant section here, followed by a link to an accurate report of what Francis said on his meeting with the journalists. AIDS is a serious problem in Africa, the epidemic continues. We know that prevention is the key and that condoms are not the only means of stopping the epidemic, but it is an important part of the solution. Is it not perhaps time for the Church to change its position with regard to the use of condoms in order to prevent infections? “The question seems biased to me. Yes, it is one of the methods, the morality of the Church faces a bit of a predicament here. The fifth or the sixth commandment: defend life or a sexual relationship that is pen to life. But this is not the problem. There is a greater problem than this: this question makes me think of the question they once asked Jesus: tell me Master, is it acceptable to heal on a Saturday? Healing is obligatory! Malnutrition, exploitation, slave labour, the lack of drinking water, these are the problems. We’re not talking about which plaster we should use for which wound. The great injustice is social injustice, the great injustice is malnutrition. I don’t like making such casuistic reflections when there are people dying because of a lack of water and hunger. Think about arms trafficking. When these problems cease to exist, then I think we can ask ourselves the question: is it acceptable to heal on a Saturday? Why are arms still being manufactured? Wars are the leading cause of death. Forget about whether it is acceptable or not to heal on a Saturday. Make justice and when everyone is healed, when there is no injustice in this world, then we can talk about Saturday.” http://vaticaninsider.lastampa.it/en/the-vatican/detail/articolo/francesco-africa-44994/
LifeSiteNews has a direct line to the best, most holy and most orthodox men in the Church today. Their writers are orthodox and they see what's happening from the inside. I think they are doing some of the most important work in the Church today. I question the ... agenda ... of those who compare LSN to MSM tabloid papers. It tells me more about the bias of the poster than any perceived problem of the news source.
(Sigh.) Here we go again. Another fruitless debate where no one wins and no one is persuaded. Instead, a handful of post-ers get to "strut their stuff" for a bit, proud as peacocks... and then lie in wait for the next ambiguity with which to lambaste the Pope (or one another). Happy Advent. (Sigh.)
LifeSiteNews has an agenda in its reporting. It has "a direct line to the best, most holy and most orthodox men in the Church"?? A rather subjective view don't you think? I prefer to read what Pope Francis said in as straightforward and unadorned a way as possible. I don't want it presented by those with fixed ideas who judge everything according to their own way of thinking.
Yes, bfl, you are probably right in saying it is fruitless responding but leaving Brian's posts totally unanswered seems unsatisfactory - a kind of acceptance of what he is saying. This is supposed to be a forum for responding to posts after all.
Solemn nonsense. We're supposed to defend the Faith - and it's not strutting or proud. Only the agenda driven mischaracterise it in this fashion. I've met many of the writers at LSN. I know who they are talking to. I know why they are writing what they are writing. Folks need to wake up and pull their heads out of the sand. http://www.catholicworldreport.com/Item/4408/the_offthecuff_and_outoffocus_papacy.aspx
