If you are looking for some excellent advent reading, let me recommend the 'Imitation of Christ'. Many of you will be familiar with this wonderful treatise on the Christian life but, if not or if you feel like reading it again (it can be read many times and still provide insights that you may have missed on an earlier reading, it is an inexhaustible treasure). Check it out for free at: http://archive.org/stream/TheImitationOfChristChalloner#page/n3/mode/2up but do buy a copy, if you don't have one, and keep it near your Bible.
Thank you for that reminder, Steve. A great wealth of meditations! Safe in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary!
Ditto!! The Imitation of Christ is a spiritual treasure! BTW SteveD, a few years ago (has it been that long??), when I first read The Imitation, I started a little thread where we discussed the book. You can check it out here- http://motheofgod.com/threads/the-imitation-of-christ.776/#post-4846
Read your thread, great quotations. Good to get the word out about this wonderful work. It was very well known among Catholics when I was young but many people these days don't seem to be aware of it. It would be a great read for the 'modernist' trendy Catholics especially priests and religious. It has a lot of hard things to say about obedience to authority.
Thank you SteveD for another book to check out at archive.org The tablet that i use most of the time doesn't work that well with the site (difficulty getting the pages to turn over etc) If others are having the same sort of problems then i can recommend another site where this book can be found. I've managed to download it as a pdf file from there. (But it can also be read online) I think it is an important book that i must read. So that's what i shall be doing in the next few weeks. Thank you for pointing it out to me. http://www.ccel.org/ccel/kempis/imitation.html
