Please correct me if I wrongly interpret this... so a baby is NOT BAPTIZED until age 7? Isn't it not more dangerous?

Children below 7 are more susceptible to diseases and without baptism, they would carry with them the original sin, no?

I agree in infant baptism and feel it is essential. The catechism says this:

The Baptism of infants

1250 Born with a fallen human nature and tainted by original sin, children also have need of the new birth in Baptism to be freed from the power of darkness and brought into the realm of the freedom of the children of God, to which all men are called.50 The sheer gratuitousness of the grace of salvation is particularly manifest in infant Baptism. The Church and the parents would deny a child the priceless grace of becoming a child of God were they not to confer Baptism shortly after birth.51 (403, 1996)

1251 Christian parents will recognize that this practice also accords with their role as nurturers of the life that God has entrusted to them.52

1252 The practice of infant Baptism is an immemorial tradition of the Church. There is explicit testimony to this practice from the second century on, and it is quite possible that, from the beginning of the apostolic preaching, when whole “households” received baptism, infants may also have been baptized.53

I don't think the article is talking about that though. The original order was Baptism, Confirmation and then the Eucharist. In the eastern church they do Baptism followed by Confirmation. Ironically enough, I just listened to one of Father John Riccardo's RCIA talks on the sacrament of confirmation yesterday and he covered a lot of this. He says even now in the church if a child is going into a surgery or being put under, they should be baptized, confirmed and anointed just in case they would not wake up.

 

ArchBishop Aquila was on EWTN nightly news Thursday I believe. he said Baptism will stay the same,hes just putting first communion and confirmation together again.Pope St PiusX split the 2 and reduced the age so children could receive communion in the early 1900's...
I hope more Bishops do this as well

 

Fantastic analysis! Being a history guy, I knew the U.S. "Was" a Republic. Unfortunately, I think we are well on our way if not already an oligarchy in many ways. I believe the Republic can be salvaged. It will have to start small- at the county levels. Did you know that the supreme law within a county is the local sheriff? He or she is actually part of the executive branch and swears to defend and protect the Constitution WITHIN their jurisdiction. So if the sheriff is asked to enforce a law (I.e. Banning guns) , he has the right to say this is not constitutional and will not be enforced in that county. Amazingly the role of sherrifs, who are elected by the people, might be the key to salvaging and rebuilding the Republic. Peace

 

I think the following article in the WSJ is an excellent companion to the video above. A republic is all about the rule of law, and who is on the front lines to defend the law - our police officers. They have been under attack this year, not just physical, but legal and now under tactics imposed by stupid, short sighted politicians. And we already see the results in many cities in the U.S. Unfortunately, it's going to be a long, hot and I'm afraid deadly summer for inner city America.

If that is what Chesterton said in the 1920's, then it was almost prophetic. People often fail to understand that Hitler's justification for genocide was "applied Darwinism", exactly what was just stated above: that men evolved unequal.

Making this huge mistake of believing that one "race" (skin color/ethnicity) of human was "more evolved" than another, thus deserving to protect itself from dilution from the others by killing them off, was the end result. Just like the eugenics actions of Margaret Sanger.

I just heard Laura Ingram, conservative talk radio host say, Disney let go of 250 employees. The employees were forewarned because these 250 had to train the 250 Indian immigrants who took their jobs.

Another example of just how screwed up this country has become. How is a "coming out" speech of any relevance at a graduation? Isn't a graduation speech to honor ALL the students academic accomplishments and to wish them success as they move on. Why in the heck should anyone need to listen to one person talking about themselves as if announcing you are gay is some sort of accomplishment! And yet, you are considered an evil homophobe for saying this. So, this young guy can come up and talk about openness and inclusiveness and gayness but if another student cones up and even suggests he would like to thank God, he will be stopped and some dopey atheist group , will sue the school. What a world. I guess I had too much coffee because I'm ranting away at something I can't change. Oy vey!

I have plans in place. All my children were raised by my ex-wife as Unitarians (i.e., unchurched) so they really have no concept of what faith is. When (not if) the Supreme Court approves same-sex marriage, I will contact each of my children individually and warn them that if I am arrested or otherwise punished for homophobia, they are to deny me. Not just role their eyes and say "that's just Dad being Dad". Having studied history, I know well what the next step will be. After my arrest the authorities or the "interested parties" will start looking at my family to see where I picked up these dangerous ideas and did I try to infect anyone else with them. They are to deny me, forcefully and with great vigor.

 

The spirit of this post has stayed with me in recent week - in my head it became:
bring others to the light rather than telling them you are right.

Still struggling though with elements of my own life where I think Jesus has no hands but mine...
