I wasn't able to read this whole thread yet, but I live in the USA, and feel we are on a very bad road right now! When I read the Bible, I was amazed at prophecy that I thought must be about us (of course I'm sure everyone must probably think that of their own countries) but when it talks in Daniel about "the Eagle" and a country that was not in existence yet, I thought of us! Also in Revelations "the Harlot that sits on Many Waters" and all the talk of Babylon...well, our country is made up of people of many languages, which is what Babylon means. And we have the Statue of Liberty that is a woman sitting on "many" waters, being where she sits is where most of the immigrants came into America.

I'll mention one sad thing I discovered about the icons that has me praying since.

I saw a lady lying dead outside a Church where she had been killed attempting to receive communion. I thought at first that this lady was just symbolic of those who will die for their faith. But it turns out she is a real individual who will really die in exactly this way in the future. So I have been praying for her sine then. it is so easy in the fate of millions to forget the individual souls. I often pray for her. Even though in the circumstances she would be a martyr and go straight to heaven. Still I pray.

The future is not set in stone, prayer can change things. Mary teaches us this.

My country too is new, and sits on many waters. It is also made up of people of many languages.
    My country is Australia.
We always use to say, we were 10 years behind America. But with the way the world moves so quickly, we are now only a couple of years behind what happens in America.
This has never been a bragging point. Because we seem to follow the wrongs of America.

Can the Bible be talking about my country and not USA? Probably not.
But my once Christian country has lost it's way too. We can not escape some sort of chastisement .:(

Padraig - look at these official petitions for Obama's administration to consider - secession from the Union!!

    https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petitions

    1. Peacefully grant the State of Arizona to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government

    2. Peacefully grant the State of Okhlahoma to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government

Apparently these are the latest figures on the petitions to leave the Union!

These were the latest numbers as of writing this. Some states have two petitions:
    1. Louisiana, 13,426
    2. Texas, 18,012
    3. Florida, 4,987
    4. Alabama, 5,156
    5. North Carolina, 4,623
    6. Kentucky, 3,929
    7. Mississippi, 3,849;
    8. Indiana, 3,876;
    9. North Dakota, 2,998
    10. Montana, 3,378
    11. Colorado, 3,746
    12. Oregon, 3,230
    13. New Jersey, 2,960
    14. New York, 3,425
    15. South Carolina, 3,193, 2,087
    16. Arkansas, 1,537
    17. Georgia, 3,912, 2,604
    18. Missouri, 2,085, 2,781
    19. Tennessee 3,656
    20. Michigan 3,230

The number of states and the speed at which these petitions are procuring signatures are clear indicators that Americans are displeased with the election results and are waking up to the current administration’s flagrant corruption.

These petitions are as effective as a teapot made of chocolate (I heard that phrase for the first time a few days ago and couldn't resist the chance to use it). They're coming from disgruntled individuals and not the state governments. No matter how many people sign these petitions, states will not secede. Regardless, it's a telling reflection on the great and growing division in our country. United we stand, divided we fall. :(

"As a teapot made of chocolate"
That is brilliant! I have to remember that one.(y)

Yeah, it is hard to believe that would ever happen.
The American people have spoken. They got what they voted.

I'm a Floridian and things are so crazy here in the USA. There is so much that is wrong and most people just don't see it.
It is sort of surreal. Lately, I have been praying more for unbelievers. We need more believers to pray for the USA and the world.
I personally would like to thank those from other countries who have been praying for America. May the Lord bless you abundantly.

    God bless,
    ~Rae

I agree. That being said, I believe we are witnessing a growing schism in the USA and this is just another sign of it. If one looks at the run up to the American Civil War back in the 1860s, there were at least a couple of decades of growing discontent and a separation of the two side ideologically until one day the war just started (attack on Ft. Sumpter).

The two sides are already drawn and widening between progressives and conservatives. I am seeing more and more rudeness and flared tempers on the Internet. In particular, watch political conversations between "friends" on Facebook. Tensions are rising. I don't know how and when things could come to a head, but they are moving in that direction, I believe. The only refuge I have found is my Roman Catholic faith. It is the only thing that keeps me sane.

This is alarming...I only knew of Austin Tx and their petition months ago..I thought they had lost it but from the results of Tx as a whole, they have the most signatures of all thus far.
I cannot believe all this is happening..all of it and where we are and are going ..fast.
Why did they change the mass schedule time to 7:30 am? I guess the hospital mass is optimal during school days and I really do not want to go there due to all the contamination , but there is no other choice for now. I will have to ask around.

I found 2 other parishes that have a different schedule so I can attend at least part of the mass during the week!

I was praying about this tonight while walking the dog and thought of this:

Consider America as a beaufiul rich large diamond, perfect, flawless.

However those who know, love and have studied the diamond know it has flaws running right through it.

Now the falws in themselves are not the great danger in themselves for all diamonds have flaws.

The difficulty comes when the diamond is dropped or hit sharply. I think this is the way it is at the moment. But that a future sharp events or series of events will shatter the diamond. THat it is cumalitive but will end sharply.

But all such things are in the hand of God and are so wel lplaced before us in scripture. THe bile assures us that the blessings of Nations comes from God . THat hHis hand upholds the righteous but when the Nation turns its face from God God withdraws His hand.

So when a Nation is just He blesses them:

    Hebrews 6:10

    New International Version (NIV)
10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.

..and when unjust He punishes them...

    Romans 3:5-8

    New International Version (NIV)
5 But if our unrighteousness brings out God’s righteousness more clearly, what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a human argument.) 6 Certainly not! If that were so, how could God judge the world? 7 Someone might argue, “If my falsehood enhances God’s truthfulness and so increases his glory, why am I still condemned as a sinner?” 8 Why not say—as some slanderously claim that we say—“Let us do evil that good may result”? Their condemnation is just!

    Hello all:
I live in the US. I have watched great changes in our country since I was a child in the early '60's. You can feel the change. It's so scary. My FB friends fought so hard for abortion rights it was ugly. I am afraid to stick out my neck and defend my stance. It is overwhelming. I work in public education....another mess. I pray the rosary before I leave for work in the morning. I have been to Medjugorje during the Bosnia conflict in '93. A place of many miracles. MIR, peace, God's unconditional love pours through every soul. Many of my family have had conversions due to walking barefoot up Mt Krizevac during my pilgrimage. My intentions were heard by our Father. My dad now attends daily mass, weekly confession and prays the rosary daily. When I left for Medjugorje, he stopped going to church. Never went, Wouldn't talk about it. Same with my husband. Huge conversions....God is good, I stay close to His heart.

Hi Rae - what was surreal to me was how hollywood seems to be so close to government now. This was evidenced in all the hollywood names at the latest inauguration. and according to the headlines on drudge, there were late night parties in the white house the day of and day after the inauguration. It just made my stomach turn knowing our leaders are partying with hollywood while there is so much suffering and unemployment in the US right now. it was surreal to me.

Thomas - I don't know if you had the time to read this thread, but this growing divide you are feeling now is something we discuss in relation to the icons Padraig was shown of a potential civil war in the US. through prayers let's hope it is averted or lessened...especially the part about the Eucharist being removed from our churches!

Donna - praise be to God on the conversions in your family!! I'm still patiently awaiting the conversion of my family members. I pray for them and walked barefoot up Mt Krizevac as well. Actually, I only made it halfway up barefoot. But the Lord knows my feet are not my friends during the best of circumstances (I have foot problems even when I have to stand a lot on a level surface with good shoes on!). sometimes my mind tells me more of my family would be converted by now if I had walked all the way up barefoot...but I know who is putting that idea in my head. I trust in God that my prayers have been heard and they all will be converted at the right time!

Hi there, yes, I've read through this thread and in particular, Padraig's Icons. The divide is tangible and growing wider everyday. Soon, I expect some new "shocks" are coming our way ... financial, social, etc. I try to pray and stay calm. Not much else one can do.
