In fact, when the Fatima apparitions took place, from May to October 1917, communism had not yet taken over Russia. At that time, the only conversion of Russia that made sense would be the conversion of that nation to the Catholic Faith, the return of orthodox schismatics to unity with the See of Peter in Rome. A process already initiated centuries before as a result of the Union of Brest (1595-1596).

    Very interesting point.

Historically, communism was established in Russia in October of 1917. The second message was given July 13, 1917. So you are correct, communism had not yet taken over Russia. From this it could be argued that Our Lady prophesied the conversion of Russia to communism, which would be the fulfillment of one of the 4 final promises. But this would make no sense, in relation to the other 3 promises. So for me, it is clear that the conversion is not towards Godless communism. As well, I think we have to look at conversion from the perspective of the bible. Which would be to Christ, in a genuine way, when there was no division of churches. So this would also imply a conversion, in terms of unification. A conversion is also not a reversion, which would be back to Orthodoxy, but it could be the beginning of a process of conversion.

However in the second message, it is stated that if the world did not repent in the manner directed, Russia would spread her errors. These errors seem to have already existed before the official establishment of communism according to Our Lady. For example, it is God who establishes rulers, and Russia had already forced out the Tsars in the early parts of 1917.

Another thing to consider is that this message happened in the Catholic world. Which implies that if Russia would convert, it would be to Catholicism. However, there is a prophecy of St. Seraphim of Sarov, that there would be an 8th ecumenical council, which would separate the wheat from the chaff, and would unite all churches under one head, which I assume would be the Chair of Peter. Given that there are prophecies that when all hope is lost the church would be renewed, I think it is worth considering.

The Russian Imperial Romanov family (Nicholas II of Russia, his wife Alexandra Feodorovna, and their five children: Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia, and Alexei) were shot and bayoneted to death[2][3] by Bolshevik revolutionaries under Yakov Yurovsky on the orders of the Ural Regional Soviet in Yekaterinburg on the night of 16–17 July 1918. Also murdered that night were members of the imperial entourage who had accompanied them: court physician Eugene Botkin; lady-in-waiting Anna Demidova; footman Alexei Trupp; and head cook Ivan Kharitonov.[4] The bodies were taken to the Koptyaki forest, where they were stripped, mutilated with grenades to prevent identification, and buried.[3][5]

Following the February Revolution in 1917, the Romanovs and their servants had been imprisoned in the Alexander Palace before being moved to Tobolsk, Siberia, in the aftermath of the October Revolution. They were next moved to a house in Yekaterinburg, near the Ural Mountains before their execution in July 1918

Yes, the Tsars were killed in 1918, but in February of 1917 they were forced out of power.

The word "peace" in the phrase "period of peace" must be understood in the context of Christ's meaning of the word, not the world's meaning of the word.

Note the words of the angel to the shepherds in Luke, chapter 2:

10 And the angel said to them: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, that shall be to all the people: 11 For, this day, is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army, praising God, and saying: 14 Glory to God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will.

The "peace" that is brought by Jesus "on earth" is only given "to men of good will." The peace He brings is not experienced by those of "bad will."

Later Jesus explains His "peace" further in John, Chapter 14:

15 If you love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Paraclete, that he may abide with you forever. 17 The spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, nor knoweth him: but you shall know him; because he shall abide with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans, I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while: and the world seeth me no more. But you see me: because I live, and you shall live. 20 In that day you shall know, that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them; he it is that loveth me. And he that loveth me, shall be loved of my Father: and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 22 Judas saith to him, not the Iscariot: Lord, how is it, that thou wilt manifest thyself to us, and not to the world? 23 Jesus answered, and said to him: If any one love me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and will make our abode with him. 24 He that loveth me not, keepeth not my words. And the word which you have heard, is not mine; but the Father's who sent me. 25 These things have I spoken to you, abiding with you. 26 But the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring all things to your mind, whatsoever I shall have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, do I give unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid.

The "period of peace," therefore, is experienced only by those who "keep [the] commandments," not by everyone in the world. And it is experienced in the hearts of those keeping the commandments (those "of good will"). The cause of this "peace" is "the Paraclete" who makes His abode in those "of good will" and "teaches all things."

In the end times, while the worldlings are experiencing a literal Hell on earth, at the same time, those "of good will" will experience God's Peace.

St. Paul says this as well in Philippians, chapter 4:

6 Be nothing solicitous; but in every thing, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasseth all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus 8 For the rest, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever modest, whatsoever just, whatsoever holy, whatsoever lovely, whatsoever of good fame, if there be any virtue, if any praise of discipline, think on these things. 9 The things which you have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, these do ye, and the God of peace shall be with you.

So there has been a period of peace in the world since the time of Christ for believers.

What you are saying is that sister Lucia was just stating the obvious and nothing new.

    Very good.

No, I think there will be something new. There will be the Warning and the "peace" that follows for those who correct their errant ways.
After the Warning, many more people will experience this the true "peace." But it will be a peace in their souls, not a geo-political or social peace in the world that ALL MEN experience. And it will only be lasting for those who persevere in keeping the Commandments during the final trial.

I think we are talking about two different things. The Period of Peace I am talking about is described as a short period in Apocalypse 12:6:

6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she had a place prepared by God, that there they should feed her a thousand two hundred sixty days.
I think what you are talking about is the New Heaven and New Earth discussed in Apocalypse 21:

1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth. For the first heaven and the first earth was gone, and the sea is now no more. 2 And I John saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice from the throne, saying: Behold the tabernacle of God with men, and he will dwell with them. And they shall be his people; and God himself with them shall be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes: and death shall be no more, nor mourning, nor crying, nor sorrow shall be any more, for the former things are passed away. 5 And he that sat on the throne, said: Behold, I make all things new. And he said to me: Write, for these words are most faithful and true. 6 And he said to me: It is done. I am Alpha and Omega; the beginning and the end. To him that thirsteth, I will give of the fountain of the water of life, freely. 7 He that shall overcome shall possess these things, and I will be his God; and he shall be my son. 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, they shall have their portion in the pool burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople prefaces book by the leader of Ukrainian Catholics on Russian aggression against Ukraine. Will the Russian invasion contribute to the rapprochement between Catholics and Orthodox?

“We once again denounce this cruel war and pray tirelessly to the Merciful Savior for the sons and daughters of the heroic Ukrainian people. May a just and eternal peace come to Ukraine.” (Batholomew, Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople)

Batholomew seems quite willing to unify the date of Easter with us in 2025, taking advantage of the opportunities presented by the jubilee. I believe it might be another Pope who concludes the jubilee initiated by Francis, just a feeling I have...

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion he has always been on the side of the Ukrainian Orthodox. He also recognized the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which greatly upset the Russian Orthodox Church. On the other hand, outside Russia, the ideology of "Mother Russia" is considered a heresy among the Orthodox.

Three UGCC Commissions Elevated to Churchwide Status
    [IMG]

The three structures of the Patriarchal Curia—the UGCC Commission on Family and Laity, the UGCC Commission on Youth, and the Council on Evangelization under the Head of the UGCC—have been granted the rights and responsibilities of churchwide status. His Beatitude Sviatoslav explained the reasons for these structural changes in the program “Open Church” on Zhyve Television.

I agree. The "common date of Easter" is the big agenda item for the Nicaea 2025 meeting:

    https://www.ncregister.com/blog/jim-graves-catholic-orthodox-common-easter

When it happens, it will change the interpretation of the following prophecy:

St. Bridget of Sweden (died 1373): “When the Feast of St. Mark shall fall on Easter, the Feast of St. Anthony on Pentecost, and that of St. John on Corpus Christi, the whole world shall cry ‘Woe.’”
Under the current calendar, Easter will not fall on the Feast of St. Mark (April 25) until 2038. But when a new Common Date is agreed upon, this will change. The most likely year that the prophecy will be fulfilled, in my opinion, will be 2027.

April 25, 2027 will be the next Sunday following the Jewish Passover that year. The new "Common Date" will likely be set to coincide with the Jewish Passover for ecumenical and historical motives.

Ukrainian Catholic Church is on the verge of being eradicated from another city in Ukraine. Russian Putinist invaders are trying to conquer Pokrovsk, in the Donetsk region, where a Catholic priest of the Byzantine rite remains with his flock. Prayers needed.

UGCC Head in the 129th Week of the War: I Took Patriarch Bartholomew’s Foreword to My Book as a Significant Sign of Support

We see that one aspect of healing wounds is through interchurch, particularly ecumenical, dialogue. His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, mentioned this in his traditional video address during the 129th week of the full-scale war—a major confrontation along the entire front line that has caused much bloodshed.
Meeting of His Beatitude Sviatoslav with Patriarch Bartholomew in Kyiv on August 23, 2021

The Primate noted that the enemy is attempting to break through to the city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region, where our priest remains with his people, regardless of the cost.

“Therefore, our entire Church offers special prayers for our priests and believers who face immediate danger of death every day,” he added.

According to him, last week, the enemy launched the largest massive air attack on Kyiv overnight in the past year, with about 40 different types of strike weapons destroyed over our capital. Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, and Odesa are under Russian attack daily. We ask the Lord God for the strength to resist evil.

“However,” the spiritual leader emphasized, “this week also marked a bright and joyful event that had been anticipated for almost two years: a large exchange of prisoners of war between criminal Russia and Western countries. Twenty-six citizens of Germany, the United States, Norway, Poland, and Slovenia were finally able to return home. We thank the Lord God for every life saved. Each of these exchanges is a beacon of hope for tens of thousands of illegally imprisoned people who endure terrible torture in Russian prisons, places of death, and abuse every day.”

In addition, the Head of the UGCC noted that at the end of this week, an important spiritual event in the life of our Church occurred—the annual Patriarchal pilgrimage to the ancient city of Halych, to the foundations of the Assumption Cathedral, which was destroyed by the Mongol-Tatars in 1240. Thousands of our faithful came to Krylos Mountain to pray before the Krylos Miraculous Icon for a just peace for the Ukrainian land and for those who are losing heart and are in pain from the trauma of this war.

“Our hope is in God. There, on Krylos Mountain, we declared to ourselves and the whole world: Ukraine stands, Ukraine fights, Ukraine prays!” stated His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

These days, we especially feel, he assures, the importance of interchurch and interreligious cooperation in Ukraine: “Ecumenical dialogue heals the wounds we may have inflicted on each other over the centuries, which sometimes hurt and prevent us from praying together and celebrating the Divine Liturgy at one altar.”

At the same time, the Primate was glad that Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew wrote the foreword to the Polish-language edition of his daily addresses from the first year of the war.

“I took it as a significant sign of support,” the spiritual leader noted and added: “I express my deep gratitude to His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew for this gesture of consideration for our Church and for his numerous manifestations of support for the suffering Ukrainian people, who are struggling to defend their right to exist.”

It has been reported that Shoigu, former Russian Defence Minister and now head of the Russian Security Council has been in contact today with German Chancellor, Scholz, asking for negotiations. This is the same Scholz who was assured by Putin just before the invasion of Ukraine, that he did not intend to invade but that if he were to do so , his troops would be able to take Kyiv in TWO DAYS! It seems strange that the Russians would expect Scholz to believe that the word of a Russian is worthy of any credence whatever following Putin's assurance in Feb. 2022.

This request follows Ukraine's drone attacks last night when hundreds of drones were sent into Russia which did damage in several cities including Moscow. (but unlike their enemies, the Ukrainians did not target any children's hospitals). This brings the war to those who believed that it would never impinge on their lives. One of Putin's pet oligarchs said at an economic conference in Japan, just a few days ago that the war was 'madness'. I don't know whether he is suicidal or that his comments mark a change in the feelings among some of the elite who are now confident that they can make such comments as long as they are not reported in Russia or perhaps it is a 'feeler' from the Kremlin.

We were assured by one commentator on this forum over a year ago that a Ukrainian collapse was imminent and that he knew this information to be accurate as it came from 'boots on the ground' and not the discredited MSM. Looks like the MSM have been reporting accurately on this one and he was dreaming. Putin is in a hole that he carefully dug and is now at risk of being buried in it.

(Just as a postscript here, I report an article I read recently about a Russian officer's experience but this was before the war). A young, patriotic Russian was keen to join the army and gained entrance to the Russian Military Academy wanting to be a gunnery officer. He was admitted with one of the top marks in the entrance exam. He trained for 2 years and passed out near top of his class. However, he didn't get a plum posting near Moscow or Petersburg but was sent to Dagestan. He discovered that the best posts went to the son's of officers and of the wealthy and disenchantment began. He found the station he was posted to was commanded by a depressed alcoholic who took little interest in his duties. He found that the Russian soldiers were reasonably obedient but that the Dagestani soldiers didn't turn out for parades or training but sat around chatting, smoking and drinking openly and failed to salute officers. He queried this and was told that, if a Dagestani soldier was disciplined then mysteriously a few days later the officer involved would be beaten up by the locals if he left the barracks. After unsuccessfully seeking transfers out of this chaotic mess, he deserted and went abroad. Such is the state of this corrupt and lazy organisation).
