That scene was amazing miker! I’ve never seen anything from the Bible portrayed like this.

Brian, he will be down in Syracuse, about 40 minutes away. Our new pastor is actually a priest from Nigeria who has been in the Syracuse Diocese for about 3 years. Interestingly enough, I have heard that the parishioners at St. Rose have stood in lines to go to Confession to this soon-to-be Pastor, so the adjustment might not be too difficult. Thank you for your concern, but my confessor and spiritual director has proved to be different priests over the last 20 years. Confessors from the parish, spiritual directors from religious orders.

The only actor I don't much care for in her part is the woman who plays Mary, Jesus' mother. I wish she were more recollected, peaceful, and beautiful. But it would be hard for anyone to be a good enough Mary!

Pope Francis meets actor who plays Jesus in ‘The Chosen’

The actor who plays Jesus in the internet series “The Chosen” met Pope Francis on Wednesday, fulfilling a lifelong dream as he visits Rome this week to view pilgrimage sites related to the Gospels.

Jonathan Roumie, a Catholic who since 2019 has brought Christ to the screen for the evangelical Christian-produced series, told CNA that meeting the pope was “a childhood dream realized.”

I really enjoyed season 2 episode 4, the man at the pool. The license that they take retelling these stories is captivating. It's such a great show all around.

Oh wow. Sigh. I loved season 1. Then as my husband and I went through season 2 we became less and less interested. Things just started bothering us. The biggest for me was their portrayal of Mary. I just have a really hard time seeing Mary portrayed as a kind of tough hippie. And the focus is skewed so heavily toward Jesus' humanity that I think it starts detracting from His divinity. Another small thing that seemed to be creeping in was the very modern theme of women's superiority over the bumbling men. We stopped watching halfway through the season.

It's a shame, because I love how Jonathon portrays the love and delight of Christ towards men and the will of His Father. I was moved to tears in almost every episode of the first season because I felt I could see glimpses of Jesus' heart. Unfortunately, it makes sense that things will steer off track when the show is trying to appeal to all denominations. That's impossible to do if you're trying to truthfully portray Christ. Truth does not cater to and please all men.

I don't think the show is perfect, it has it's flaws. But I think it's currently the best material to introduce Jesus in a loving way to a lot of "modern" people, as it's shot in a way resembling today's modern TV shows. This way it can be very successful by prompting people to seek a personal relationship with Jesus and/or to read the scriptures in a newly discovered light, making the scriptures more "real". (I can say it helped me in these aspects as I am also a young "modern" person :) )

So I encourage everyone to watch the show, discern and make up their mind about it. This flyer Dr. Marshall posted doesn't say anything about the show, this just describes James Martin's opportunistic nature who tried to ride on the fame of at that time new successful show (this is from 2020) and who somehow seduced Jonathan Roumie into his discussion.

Michael Hitchborn, the president of Lepanto Institute made the mistake of insulting Jonathan Roumie because of this flyer with probably no knowledge or background information about the event. This is what he posted on his facebook yesterday:

But then he was corrected by his friend in this post:
Sadly, I feel the need to post this in defense of my dear friend, Jonathan Roumie.
Yesterday, my friend Michael Hichborn posted a flyer for a conference hosted in 2020.
He compares “talks” given by Jim Caveizel to Jonathan…and then infers guilt by association because Fr James Martin—ever the opportunist—connected with Jonathan early into his growing fame.
This post reflects the similar cancel culture tactics of the left, which Michael and others have rightly protested and lamented.
    It is beneath us.
Due to the public nature of his post, I am calling for my friend, Hitch, to retract and issue a public apology to Jonathan.
Neither Jonathan nor Jim Caveizel are Christ Jesus. They are actors…neither theologians nor ecclesiastical experts. To expect them to be free from manipulation by others with big audiences, money or power is asking so much—if they are not provided formation or support.
Since 2020, Jonathan has been on the road and on social media, leading thousands in praying (and for Protestants, discovering) the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Rosary.
He has been to conferences, including interviews with Dr. Scott Walker Hahn and Bishop Robert Barron; keynotes at Napa Institute, Legatus, Acton Institute in Rome, and many others—and has been actively witnessing his own (continued) journey of conversion and surrender to God.
Recently, he joined Hallow, together with Caviezel, to promote 40Days of prayer during Lent.
Is Jim now guilty by associating with Jonathan who associated with Fr Martin…or will we see the fruits of their ongoing public efforts towards bringing souls to Christ?
Let’s hope—after years of crisis manipulation and rabid, angry activism in the world—this becomes a moment of recognition, reconciliation, humility and patient prayer for all involved. Division is the weapon of the Enemy.
“A spoon full of honey gets more flies than a barrel full of vinegar.”
    —Saint Francis de Sales

Michael Hichborn has corrected himself afterwards:
Last night, I posted a flyer showing that actor Jonathan Roumie (The Chosen) participated in an event with LGBT activist James Martin, SJ.
I've had a number of people close to Roumie reach out to me since then to tell me that in 2020, Martin slithered in to ride his coat tails and to try to draw him into Martin's orbit when he was still fresh to returning to the Faith. I am also told that several good people are working behind the scenes to steer Roumie in the right direction, and I certainly hope that is taking place.
While it is good that Roumie is being influenced by good people who are working to steer him from bad influences (ie. Martin), part of growing in the Faith is also confronting lapses in judgment. And when those lapses are public, the confrontation of those lapses will also have to be public. For my part, I'm sorry I was quick to the trigger. And since Roumie has given a public boost to James Martin in the past, I would ask him to publicly denounce Martin's pro-LGBT work and refuse to have anything to do with him in the future.

I haven’t watch but only two episodes of season two( all of season one). Although I liked season one because I believe it was a draw to those who would otherwise not watch a “ Jesus” production, I admittedly hated the episode from the wedding at Cana when Our Lady refers to her belly ( pregnancy) in reference to her wedding. I can’t remember the specifics, but it made her appear shameful …NOT THE REALITY OF TRUTH. There needed to be clarification in reference to this and any newbie Christian would or could misunderstand the reality of the incarnation.

Yes, Mary is portrayed so strangely...There's nothing sweet, beautiful, innocent or heavenly about her. The emphasis always seems to be how ordinary she is, and her mannerisms are almost flippant. I agree completely with you about that scene. In season 2 she talks about Jesus' birth and all she seems to want to share is how incredibly ordinary the whole thing was...being sure to even mention incorrectly that Jesus had to be cleaned from the messy birth. It definitely seems the show is trying to over -emphasize the humanity of Christ. It goes too far, IMO.

Agree…and the Protestants do not hold Our Lady in the high esteem that we know she deserves. Maybe they need reminded of the scripture, All generations shall call me blessed”.

What does that mug mean? I would have assumed the ring was some kind of memento mori thing...but the skull on the mug is so blingy. Is it that weird mix of Catholicism and superstitious/magic stuff?
