I feel the exact same way. I loved how they portrayed Jesus in season 1, but did not like how the Blessed Virgin Mary was portrayed at all. You stated it perfectly.

    But maybe a bit naive?

Excellent post filled with discernment. You have diagnosed the problems with The Chosen precisely and with what passes for entertainment these days. I dislike the TV but for EWTN. (I confess to watching old Murder She Wrote and Colombo shows on the Great American family Channel. Also Dr Pol the vetinarian. Sigh. Not completely free of it)

We aren’t completely free of it, either.

Yeah! Haven't had a TV for 10 years! But that is no judgment against you discretionary viewers.

Now if only I could get rid of the smartphone too! My last screen.... I've had the urge for years but I confess I don't even know how to function in this modern world without some source of internet. I wish I knew someone who is successfully doing so!

But then we would not have each other here. I don't think it is time yet.

I was so impressed with the chosen when it first started. In fact we used season one for a bible study in my previous church. But as it went on there were things that bothered me but not enough to quit watching. Yes we are being groomed by it! The final straw was the slippery slope of accepting the pride flag. When Dallas did not remove the published clip of the show from broadcast tv and when he did not object to it being displayed. When the actors banded together to support the pride lifestyle was an eye opener for me. It is like “if the govt says it is legal it must be ok” mentality. To accept the gay flag in a Christian production is not of God if you truly believe in God’s laws and read the Bible. No where have I heard the chosen Jesus say ‘go and sin no more’. It really saddens me that they have taken a bite from the apple. It’s the slippery slope to downfall, I feel so bad for those getting such mis information. But as Dallas said during the opening monologue of his rebuttal, he is a for profit company, and it is his fantasy. I’m moving on. Oh if his depiction of Jesus was more like Bishop Sheen! Not the Jesus who told Nicodemus you don’t have to kneel to me, that should have been my first clue. So saddened by this. Keep the Faith!

Good analysis of the slippery slope.

I share your feelings. The first season caught me. I was very moved. But like you I became less and less captivated. .I did not like the portrayal of Mary at all. And the portrayal of Jesus ....well it was a novel approach the first season but didn't have staying power for me. For some reason I am uncomfortable for the most part with actors playing Jesus. Only Jim Caviezel achieved it and that I think is because he let Jesus take over.

This is definitely a money making project. Good Christians are donating good money to this group and it’s a questionable “charity.”

$5 million per episode is Hollywood level production costs, isn’t it?

I feel very sad about how this show has developed. Like many others, I was very enthusiastic in the beginning. I was disappointed in the way they portrayed Our Lady- tbh I felt they made her look plain and unattractive, as opposed to, for example, Mary Magdalene, who always looks beautiful, refined and graceful. I pressed on regardless, given that the show was about Jesus and it had a lot of good content otherwise.
The main turning point for me was in season 3 episode 3 when Jesus goes home to Nazareth to visit his Mother. He asks her where “James and Jude” are. Did anyone else notice that? What are Catholics supposed to make of this?
Are we to expect further episodes where Jesus’ “brothers” make an appearance?
My interest in the show took a downward spiral after that. I may watch future episodes, but definitely not with the same enthusiasm I had previously ☹️

Thank God I am not Protestant at this present time. The goodness knows things are not good in the Catholic Church, but for poor Protestants it must seem like the end of the World has come.

Why did the series show Jesus sending out the apostles to preach before he died. This never happened as far as I know. Also Mary isn’t portrayed with the holiness she had. Typical of a Protestant production.

Series is a solid watch. I’m sure there is more good coming from overall.

    Mark 6:7-13

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles
7 And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. 8 He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts— 9 but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics. 10 And he said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you depart from there. 11 And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.” 12 So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent. 13 And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them.

    Luke chapter 10

    The Mission of the Seventy-two.*

After this the Lord appointed seventy[-two]* others whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit.a
He said to them, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.b
Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves.c
    * Carry no money bag,d no sack, no sandals;e and greet no one along the way.

Yeah, I too felt the same way. Agree with what most others have sent. Chosen started out well, but now has begun to disappoint. Hope "Passion of the Christ: Resurrection" (2024) when Caviezel/Gibson return will be better. I hope they use some of Maria Valtorta's visions of the Risen Christ, which are just beautiful. To a spiritual daughter who asked whether he permitted to read it, St. Padre Pio answered: "I do not 'permit' you to read it. I 'order' you to read it!" They're that good. Otherwise, hope it incorporates some nice parts for meditation/reflection, like that ancient Holy Saturday Sermon, where Christ tells Adam: "I am your God, Who for your sake have become your son. I did not create you to be a prisoner in Hades, Rise from the Dead, for I AM the Life of the Dead". Apparently, the "Harrowing of Hell" is going to be an important part of that Movie, according to certain public comments from Gibson.
