Temptation.

This man has returned to give whatever advice, instructions, and over-care that he can. In 2007, between his marriages (remarried in 2011), he offered, as a man of only 31 then (I was 42), that if the USA ever ran into terrible troubles, he would do what he could to take care of me.

He has returned to live up to that promise.

My husband is disabled. I have no father, brothers, uncles, sons; nothing. My male in-laws are emotionally distant; there's no relationship with them, nor they with husband.

I need this man's advice, instructions, and (from a distance) over-care.

So until later, friends. I won't be here on false premises. I'd said I would end the friendship, but in the past half hour I've decided not to.

Dear DS, I can understand how alone and vulnerable you feel and, of course, that is guiding your decisions while it seems like the whole world has gone to Hades. I want you to know that I live just up the road from you in Albuquerque. If there is ANYTHING that I can do or help in any way please let me know. I will be here for you! God bless you and hold you in His loving arms. Seriously, you are not alone, let me know!!!

Sometimes if we don't succeed in shutting down the temptation in the beginning, it gets its foot in the door and makes it much, much harder because all kinds of justifications and rationalizations have time to cloud our judgment and dismantle the will of our higher self.

Without any judgment, since we are all weak, sinful creatures here, I do believe you deserve to hear the truth...and that is that it is wrong to continue any kind of relationship with this man because you know it is causing emotional infidelity, which is a willful occasion of sin that very often leads to further sin. I promise you that God, Who infinitely loves you, can take care of you through whatever lies ahead, without the use of a man who causes you to justify an occasion of sin. As a matter of fact, I would argue you are MUCH safer in the arms of God within your valid marriage than if you wander outside the protection of sanctifying grace. Especially in these times... These are no ordinary hard times; these are spiritually chastising times. It is crucial that you stay in the state of grace and not expose yourself to the prowling devil. This man will NOT protect you from that...He's literally walking you straight into the snare. Can a man who breaks his word to return and tempt a married woman be trusted with anything? I think you know.

Much love and many prayers for you. I think you are someone who maybe doesn't value your true worth deep inside and that has made you vulnerable. I've noticed this in your posts. You are worth far, far more than how attractive anyone thinks you are. You are precious to Christ and you must hold onto His hand and let Him guide you back to safety. Go to your church and sit with Him in the silence and tell Him everything that's on your heart. He understands all and will help you.

I totally agree. Don't let anything earthly stand in your way of your state of grace and your relationship with God. Remember that when the devil tempted Christ in the desert, he offered Jesus the whole world if He would serve the devil. God in His Providence will provide for you and your husband. Emotional affairs are devastating.

DS7, your fluctuating due to the unexpected return of this male friend. No one here is throwing you under the bus. We are always here for you. Never fail to have Jesus first in your life! As the Lord says in Jeremiah:

I have loved you with an everlasting love and am constant in my affection for you!

When we had our 2nd parting of the ways in November 2020, he said "You'll not hear from me again."

Okay. Agreed.

So when he turned up again three weeks ago, I was stunned.

I don't fear that he's a stalker or a danger, but I am wondering why he changed his mind. He's a cool, very strong, rather stoic military type; he's not a needy sort of person. He's also not confused or changeable of mind otherwise. I did not expect him to change his mind on this.

And that's enough said.

Any temptation like this is not good….and hurts both your souls. You seem to know that and it’s good you’re sharing it because you’re really looking for encouragement to end it. Just imagine standing before God and asking him….
You know the answer. Praying that God fills that void with love from your husband.
