About 7 months ago, I think I mentioned a mother of one of the children I work with decided to be a surrogate mum. She decided to carry a distant friend's baby, using the distant friend's husband's sperm and friends eggs. She is purely the carrier. She said she wanted to do this because she believed these people would make great parents and 'should' be allowed to have a baby. My first thought was... Gee, what a generous and unselfish gift for someone. Then when I thought more about it. I thought this person is playing God. She is deciding who can have a baby. I wonder if these people ever prayed for this special gift of being a parent? Anyway, today I was sent a text to inform me the baby has been born. I replied with a text in wishing her well and said I will say a prayer for her. I don't know what she thought when I said I will pray for her. But I suppose I am concerned for her well being. After all she has been carrying this baby for 9 months. And I wanted to ask God to show mercy, as this lady believed she was doing the right thing.
The world does not judge as God judges. What this lady has done is cool with the world, but very offensive to God.
I haven't walked a mile in their shoes. I think it is very sad when two people can't have a baby. I don't know what God thinks about it to be honest.. IVF is unethical as unwanted babies(when more than one is fertilized) are thrown away or placed in a refrigerator for another time! This is horrendous... Yes, these little ones have a soul too.
If anyone has doubts as the the gravity of sexual sins, I suggest reading Pope Paul VI encyclical Humane Vitae. The Church clearly teaches that true love is not made outside of marraige and conception must take place in the natural form (not man made). These are grave sins agianst God's truth. This also goes for contraception, contraty to what 95% of those who are Catholic beleive in. Bishop Sheen said it best.... "your should tolerate people, but not principles". In other words, you love all mankind, as Jesus did, but not their sinfullness.
My Mom almost lost her faith and her soul over this kind of stuff...things that did not even concern her anymore as she was past child bearing age! Thats how Satan does it....sympathy for sinners, so many different variables that could be good, could they not?? Pretty soon we think the Church is "too harsh and hasty" in her teachings, and then fall in with the lot that walks away from her. We must remember that the Church knows whats best for us, and sometimes proclaims something as harmful and sinful many,many years before an issue even comes up.
It's easy to see a sin as a sin until that sin personally tempts us. That's why we need the guidance of the Church on such matters. Its teachings are a line in the sand, saying do not cross, danger lurks on the other side. When people cross over they line, they are easily lost, and sometimes they never find their way back.
This is the title of an article on CNN's website on Tuesday. Surrogate offered $10,000 to abort baby Tragic circumstances potentially. The good news is that the surrogate didn't abort (but almost did) and found another family who wanted the baby girl that was going to be born with birth defects. God forgive us and have mercy! Evil heaped upon evil. Then God makes good out of it. The surrogate did the wrong thing in agreeing to be a surrogate in the first place, but in the end, she did the right thing in sparing its life. God bless her.
