It's an old film ,Connie but the old one's are the best. I noticed Hollywood being Hollywood they changed a few things to spice things up, but it didn't do any harm. I think Br Elias didn't make his move until after Francis died. something that often hppens with religious founders, that Satan moves in to close things down. I was surprised and pleased they mentioned St Francis's stigmata. They say Francis was the first one to have the stigmata but I believe others including St Paul had them before this..a;so I wonder if Our Lady could have had them? Also they call Francis 'Father' when in fact he refused to be ordained he was too humble, he was always Brother Francis. A lovely film, I think I watched it as a child...
I have never actually seen this entire movie, but have seen parts of it here and there. I don't recall the courting affair with Clare and Br. Elias in any texts I have read, but it made for a good additional romantic plot. I bought Brother Sun and Sister Moon for my old kids for Easter this year. A very simple, cute movie from the 70s, kind-of a Franciscan "cult" movie that is watched every year! ]
