An unlikely church, built in an unlikely place, dedicated to an unlikely saint.

    This is an interesting story.....enjoy

This video is of the church inside Clinton Correctional Facility. It is the only freestanding church inside a prison in the United States . It was built using only inmate labor. The only part not shown in the video is the beautiful view of the mountains and Lake Champlain .

This reminds me a lot of the Churches in Ireland Gail, all dark stone and so solid. I was more than a little surprised how big it was and looking at it you'd never guess it was inside a prison, it must be wonderful for the prisoners to visit a bit like being free for a while. It reminded me that one of the first things Blessed Pope John 23rd di when he was elected Pope was to visit the fearsome Regina Coeli (Queen of Heaven ) prison in Rome and apparently there was not dry eye in the house, prisoners, warders, news folks all crying their eyes out (such a loving, kind, grandfather;y figure}. In his talk there Pope John mentioned that two of his own family had been in prison, one for poaching...which was sweet of him.

That's a really interesting video. That's cool how they used inmates as models for the stained glass windows and some of the statues. A forger became the prime artist. Awesome how God makes good come out of bad. The church itself is made from second-hand material . . . a flagship no less. St. Dismus has been one of my favorite saints for a long time, BTW.
