I posted a prayer request a while back for my BIL, who has passed on and in a dream I related, our Blessed Mother said to me since I had specifically named Mark{my bil} she would take care of him. So yes pray for people specifically. Here's the thread: Prayers for Mark's soul | Mother of God
Peppermill, I believe both ways are correct. Sometimes i pray for all the Holy souls and at times by name. Especially for deceased family members or friends family. Onetime Mother Angelica talking about the holy souls noted she and the sisters would add after saying grace May the Divine assistance remain Always with us and may the souls of the Faithful departed thru the Mercy of God Rest in Peace Amen Bless you and the lil ones praying for the Church suffering. Im sure Our Lord and our Lady smile upon you All!!!
PEPPERMILL A Hail Mary is VERY POWERFUL! I had no idea just how POWERFUL until I was given a dream. In my dream I was going over a bridge and ahead of me was a big storm that I could see in the sky. Below the bridge I could see people who were in an accident and they were laying face down in water. They were all wearing prison stripped clothing. I felt bad for them as I was crossing the bridge and I began to say HAIL MARY'S. As I did.....each person g face down in the water wearing prison striped clothing .....began to rise out of the water and breath deeply......like they were being given life giving oxygen. I knew immediately that the HAIL MARY & ROSARY were VERY POWERFUL for the poor souls. I have also learned that the HAIL MARY is VERY POWERFUL against danger and the APOSTLES CREED is VERY POWERFUL against the attacks of the enemy.
Said a Hail Mary for Jack. Thanks for all the responses and other prayers. I always include the Fatima prayer after the Glory Be in the Rosary. I will definitely begin to say some of these other prayers as well and try to name people specifically as much as possible, but it's nice to know I can pray for those who've died whom I don't even know. I went through RCIA as an adult, but then didn't continue to learn (and I'm not entirely sure how much I learned in the first place) and spent several years away from the church even (one step forward, two/three/four steps back is my life). Now, I'm learning again. I've been reciting the Rosary every day for a few weeks now and a few friends have noticed how much more calm I've become, that something has changed. I have a long way to go still, though.
There is no doubt one changes...even nature around you will look different. God Bless You and Your Family Keep up the good work...
