A few times I have posted here my devotion to souls in purgatory. By Gods great grace I have been given names of souls to have masses for or I am given dreams of souls that need rosaries. Only a few times have I asked God about certain souls who may need prayers or masses. The other night was one such time. I was praying and started thinking of my sister who passed away in 2000. She had a hard life. She was only 46 when she died. None of us were catholic. I am the only convert of my mothers children. Well.....thinking of my sister with tears in my eyes, I quietly asked God is she was in purgatory. I thought of perhaps a great sign for me to know would be on FB. I often get great confirmations about things there from my fellow Catholics posts etc. well....the next day I received a great confirmation. My sisters name was CHARLIE.....short for Charlotte. As soon as I signed in to my FB......the first post I see is CHARLIE BROWN sitting at a Thanksgiving table. I immediately knew it was my precious Lord allowing me to know. The Thanksgiving table was odd for me to see.....since its not even November but.....I knew exactly......because my sister died just before Thanksgiving. PLEASE pray for her if you can. Even if it's just a Hail Mary. I would be ever so grateful.
Praying too. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with you Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus, Holy Mary, Mother of God Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death Pray for Charlotte to be purified by the precious blood of Jesus, Pray for Charlotte to be entirely purified to enter into the Light of the Thrice Holy God, the Blessed Trinity.
I will say a prayer for her. All my prayers I offer up for 2 specific needs: the souls in purgatory and for conversions of hearts to be set on fire so the militant church will grow (and thus more people will remember to pray for the souls in purgatory).
Praying now for her soul and all of the souls of the faithfully departed....may they rest in peace, Amen++ I also lost my dear sister just before thanksgiving...I think her hard life was her purgatory...God please release all of those dear souls through Your great mercy+
Thank you so much.....ALL OF YOU. My cup runneth over. I am moved by so many prayers for my sweet sister. God bless you.
I have also received confirmation of things on FB, as odd as that sounds I'm sure. Now I know we shouldn't be quick to canonize our relatives and friends, but something struck me about this post and I can't get it out of my head. As I read Thanksgiving, I immediately thought Eucharist. As you know the meaning of Eucharist is thanksgiving. Charlie sitting at a Thanksgiving table. Blessed are those who are called to the supper of the Lamb.
Prayer said for your sister Sparrow. It is funny you should be remembering your sister who passed away in 2000. My favourite sister passed away in October 2000, she was only 58. I have been wondering if she has arrived in Heaven yet. But the Lord has not allowed me to know, God have Mercy on our sisters souls. Merciful Jesus, please cover the poor souls in Purgatory with Your most precious Blood, that you may cool down their scorching flames. Amen.
Julia....I will add your sister to my rosary this evening. Both of them very young when they passed. Thank you and God Bless!!!
Sometimes.....I contemplate writing of my experiences with Poor Souls....to give others a sense of Gods Mercy. I have learned a great deal. What I can say at this time however is most all the souls ....I have been graced to know about......most of them were in purgatory for just over 40 yrs. But......we must remember that many have no one to pray for them.....especially non Catholics. Reading the book GET US OUT OF HERE about MARIA SIMMA who was given the graces to see POOR SOULS......confirmed to me that many souls spend an average of 40 yrs in purgatory. These were people that did not live thier lives daily for God etc. I suggest many people read the book......which has imprimatur.
I'm curious about something. I've said with my children a Hail Mary for all the souls in purgatory. So, does this apply to all? Or is it better to name specific people who may be there? I'm pretty new at all of this still.
Yes, it is a good idea to mention names of souls. And having a Mass offered for their repose is a traditional Catholic practice. Hope the following will help. Hail Mary will be helping too. Peppermill, there is a payer we say after each decade of the Rosary which we can also say just by itself anytime and is very helpful for Holy Souls in Purgatory as follows; Oh Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of Your Mercy. And deliver the poor souls in Purgatory. (Optional to add; especially those who have no one to pray for them.) To help those whose relatives don't believe in purgatory or those whose family don't pray anymore. Also another prayer to help Holy Souls in Purgatory; this gives relief I have read somewhere. Merciful Jesus, please cover the poor souls in Purgatory With Your most precious Blood, that You may cool down Their scorching flames. And the Best prayer is; Eternal Father, I offer You the most precious blood Of Your Divine Son, Jesus, sacrificed on Calvary In union with all the Holy Masses offered today throughout the world, for all the poor souls in Purgatory, For sinners everywhere, sinners in the Universal Church, For sinners in my own home, in my own family and myself. Amen. I understand the last prayer has a promise attached that each time we say it, 1,000 souls will be released from Purgatory. I think it is called the Saint Bridget prayer, and I have seen it posted on a thread here by Padraig in the last couple of days. Sorry I am not techy enough to direct you to it from this post.
