If Our Lady wasn't here, I surely would have gone crazy by now. When I see especially in Sarajevo, how they use God and His Name in their oaths, how foolish they are, how they curse God, these persons have no idea what to expect in the near future. As I look at them and pity them, I feel very sad and pray and cry. I pray Mary to enlighten their minds, because as Jesus said: "they truly do not know what they do ... ". . I have a Catholic Bible that was copy-written in 1958 and published in 1961. The OT is the Douay Version and the NT version is the Confraternity version. It includes fasting in both the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Mark. But I must positively share that my modern Great Adventure Bible by Ascension Press published in 2018 includes the word fasting along with a footnote pointing out some ancient authorities exclude that word. Chapter 8 of the Didache (late 1st century) instructs:1 Let not your fasts be with the hypocrites, for they fast on Mondays and Thursdays, but do you fast on Wednesdays and Fridays. This teaching was given to converts.
I would like to add that the tendency of those Catholics who regret much of what has come forth from Vatican II in the realm of Church practice, would tend to look at anything connected to the Council negatively. Thus the tendency to support the "fasting" camp in the above clip, since the trend to exorcise the word fasting came subsequent to the Council. The source posted by member, Prayslie, on the other hand, shows that the issue based on ancient manuscripts is much more complicated. The primary reason that I'm going to return to a more demanding fasting regimen is based the Didache's stress on fasting. Even Chapter 1 instructed new converts to even fast for those who persecuted them! I'm a wimp, so fasting on bread as recommended by Our Lady in Medjugorje will be good for me. I'm been procrastinating for too long. I'll let you know how I'm faring at the end of Advent.
The simplest answer to the "and fasting" question is that some ancient textual sources have those words and some don't. But, for Catholics that is not important. The Vulgate has always had the words "and fasting" in those verses. The Vulgate is the official text of the Bible according to the Council of Trent. Why use the Vulgate? Because St. Jerome had access to many more ancient source texts in his day (300s AD) than do modern Biblical scholars. Many of those ancient source texts were lost because the Vulgate was the standard Bible for almost 1700 years. All of the Catholic Church Magisterium is based on the standard Vulgate text, not some other version of the Bible. Protestants promote the use of the other textual variants because they disagree with the Catholic Church teaching on many issues. One of the big issues they disagree with us on is...you guessed it...the importance of fasting!
The man in the John Henry Weston video recommended fasting on bread and water on Wednesdays and Fridays. He mentioned using a whole wheat bread (as I recall) having some protein in it. He also said you can dip it in oil or use butter. That surprised me.

Of course, it's generally best to go as close to the original text as possible, but we must not fall into the trap of rejecting all textual analysis. That most of it is errant, and has been demonstrated so to be, doesn't mean that even the most diligent of human transcribers could make a rare slip. The acceptance by traditionally minded Catholics of the possibility of a rare, occasional error in text (inevitable given that every version of the Bible is non-identical to any other) only lends us more credibility when it comes to opposing those progressivists who would radically redact biblical text, in my opinion.
On a different subject, I am encouraged just a little by the apparent partial climbdown by the Chinese authorities regarding their lockdowns. Surely, if true, this represents a certain pushback within the CCP against Xi and his attempts to wrest perpetual, absolute power for himself? It's no harm to witness the abolition of the 'morality police' in Iran. An absolutely pharisaical organisation. A modesty that has to be imposed by brute force is surely not a modesty at all, a concept that, within certain prescribed limits of common public decency, has only real meaning when voluntary.
I like this lady, she is a watcher. However I just wanted to share an inspiration which is to be careful not to assign "predictions" to anyone nor believe what the leaders are saying but rather to turn over the God all of the future. He Alone owns it all and what happens to us if for Him to decide not anyone else. I didn't listen to the whole interview, just the beginning where she says that the globalists want to do this or that and that it all started with the lockdowns - which I don't agree with. It started way, way before that and the people of God need to see our part in it. What I see as a Christian is that we are truly the generation like the Israelites in Egypt who are held captive. I see the movements of Europeans into the colonies (Americas, Australia, etc) as the equivalent of Joseph inviting his brothers into Egypt and giving them land. The Kings in Europe then were Christian and the people who moved into the colonnies were Christian too, so like brothers of Joseph the 2nd in command under the Pharaoh. Many of our ancestors went to the Americas in a time when there was famine in Europe and they were given the best lands there, on the surface out of charity but not really since the powers wanted to cultivate them on large scale (the powers are those above the Kings, the Pharaohs in short). That is when Our Lady of Guadelupe appeared in Mexico launching what many think is the age of Mary on Dec 21, 1531 (note 500 year anniversary in 2031) Over the centuries, the people "prospered" materially but declined spiritually and intellectually and now we are so obviously dumbed down and slaves in a dehumanized system that is replacing people with machines, forcing us into unwanted treatments, intruding on sacred ground (ex mariage, family...) But who allowed all of this? We did because we wanted to have our cake and eat it too (Esau's bowl of lentils), which is why we need to repent and pray for help with a repentant heart, not say ooh it's those evil leaders, it's them who did this because that is not entirely true. Had we stayed faithful, God would have spared us the chastisement (Fatima promise), but despite it all, God is still with us through Our Lady of Medjugorje. God is leading us out of Egypt but it isn't easy and we are not doing as Our Lady is asking us to do! The you-know-whats forced on us all are like the snakes in the desert that killed thousands of Hebrews for having complained and rebelled against God. What next? A physical move or a spiritual one? I lean towards the latter, in the notion of the Divine Will - but that is just me. Let's continue to watch and pray! ETA: I believe that apparitions that gave us Graces along the way, like the Lourdes apparition, is the equivalent of Moses striking the rock to give us Water! If only the Church would study this stuff spiritually. There may be a reset going on, but there is also a Great biblical Replay going on too!!
