Seems like a milestone, I'm not too familiar with her but it's been all over the Catholic news:

Alice Von Hildebrand: ‘A Happy Failure’
    [IMG]

After reading Memoirs of a Happy Failure by Alice von Hildebrand several years ago, I had the privilege of interviewing the great Belgian-born philosopher, professor, and author. I wanted to know more of the story behind some of the themes of the book, which began with her escape to the United States during World War II and focused on the challenging years she spent teaching–and resisting the growing relativism in academia–at Hunter College in New York City.

Von Hildebrand’s recent death had me pulling out the contents of that long email exchange from 2016 in which she generously reflected on these years of her life.

My first question: Why name your book Memoirs of a Happy Failure?

“Because it conveys an important message,” she answered. Failure, even radical failure, is a justified term because she was “shamefully treated at Hunter: lowest salary in the department, for years…no medical coverage, never knowing whether I would have a job the next semester…given the most exhausting schedule.” Yet, despite it all, she had immense success with her students and earned their affection and admiration.

Alice Marie von Hildebrand, GCSG[1] (11 March 1923 – 14 January 2022) was a Belgian-born American Catholic philosopher, theologian, author, and professor. Von Hildebrand was also the second wife of Dietrich von Hildebrand.

    ...

... She made more than 80 appearances on EWTN television programming.[1] In 2004, she launched the Dietrich von Hildebrand Legacy Project with some of her husband's former students.

Here husband, well known Dietrich and I'm sorry, I've heard the name but I don't know too much about them.

Alice and Dietrich were great examples of how deep faith can exist in harmony with colossal intellect. Two candidates for sainthood, but they're too busy canonising popes.

It's more proper to take such great lengths of time in an institution concerned with Eternity than the systematic, almost automatic, and immediate canonisation of recently deceased popes. Such clericalism contrasts with the centuries taken to declare St Joan of Arc's sainthood.

What if Ashlee Babbit, the woman shot and killed at the Capitol on Jan. 6th, 2021 was actually trying to be a peacemaker?

    Epocthimes reports:

Babbitt Tried to Stop Attack on Capitol Speaker’s Lobby, Video Shows (theepochtimes.com)

Ashli Babbitt desperately tried to prevent rioters from vandalizing the doors leading to the Speaker’s Lobby at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, even stepping between one troublemaker and police officers guarding the doors, a video analysis shows.

Frame-by-frame video evidence analyzed by The Epoch Times paints a vastly different picture of Babbitt’s actions than that portrayed in media accounts over the past year. News media regularly painted Babbitt as “violent,” a “rioter,” or an “insurrectionist” who was angrily trying to breach the Speaker’s Lobby.

Video clips appear to show she tried to prevent the attack, not join it.

Video shot by John Sullivan, also known as Jayden X, shows that Babbitt tried to stop the violence against the Speaker’s Lobby at least four times before she climbed into a broken window and was shot by U.S. Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd. At one point, she was so distressed at the violence, she was jumping up and down in frustration.

    Edited to add:

If you could please pray for the son of one of my husband's co-workers I would greatly appreciate it. He is 22 years old and was just diagnosed with esophageal cancer and they are having difficulty keeping him stable right now before any treatment has even begun. Thank you you all so very much. I don't have his first name as of yet, I only have his mom's name (Heather) but if/when I get his name I will update this post accordingly. +
