It’s a big statement,” Aziza Ahmed, a law professor at Northeastern University, told The New York Times. “This is a culture war to some degree." The money, which will be included in the city's 2020 budget, will pay for about 500 women to terminate their pregnancies. The New York Abortion Access Fund has provided funds for women seeking the procedure since 2001, but this marks the first time the city has allocated money to the nonprofit. The organization has also paid for transportation costs, and funded nearly 600 abortions last year. It is estimated that one-third of the fund's payments go to support women who come from out of state seeking abortions in New York. The news comes amid a wave of newly-passed abortion bans and restrictions in states across the country. Alabama passed the most restrictive abortion ban, which allows no exceptions for rape or incest, although it has not taken effect. No, the proper thing would be to do an "exorcism of locality", where prayers of exorcism are read over a place where demonic activity is occurring. This was done to great effect a couple of years ago when a VERY notorious abortuary (they would display things like a crucified chicken when the pro-life prayer warriors would start) in Illinois was shut down after the local bishop gave permission to have these prayers said by priests. It just struck me: the law just signed in Illinois is even more extreme than New York's -- removing all licensing requirements from places performing abortions, which means that these "clinics" will not be covered under laws for disposal of medical waste or inspections to ensure the safety of the women. That abortion clinic in the first story I linked to? It was shut down after the state found multiple health and safety violations, much like Gosnell's, which were not resolved despite orders from the state to "clean up their act." They're going to be back in business by the end of the month, I'll wager.

The group, Xenotime, has been probing utilities in the U.S. and Asia-Pacific regions since late 2018, Hanover, Maryland-based Dragos said in a blog post Friday. They’ve focused mostly on electronic control systems that manage the operations at industrial sites, Dragos said. U.S. officials have long warned grids are acutely vulnerable to cyber attacks. Disrupting a region’s electrical infrastructure could cause widespread chaos, triggering blackouts and crippling financial markets, transportation systems and more. “While none of the electric utility targeting events has resulted in a known, successful intrusion into victim organizations to date, the persistent attempts, and expansion in scope is cause for definite concern,” Dragos said in its post. The blog said the attackers appear to be probing for weaknesses in the U.S power systems -- a step to be considered far less serious than an actual attack -- and there is so far no evidence of “a known, successful intrusion.” Xenotime gained notice after a 2017 malware attack on a Saudi Arabian petrochemical facility, Dragos said. I am totally aghast. I retired from teaching a good while ago and I am so blessed I didn’t have to deal with this . About midway through my career I dropped my membership in the National Teachers Association and my state and local groups. I realized back then that they were politically pro-abortion. This is so outrageous. How long, O Lord?
First things first: the SPLC is the Southern Poverty Law Center. This is one of those organizations that had been doing good work way back when. They provided legal aid to civil rights workers, laborers trying to unionize, and anyone too poor to afford other legal help. However, sometime in the 80s, when all the big fights had been won, they found themselves struggling to remain relevant. They started a slow but relentless tip to the left, capitalizing on their history as civil rights workers. They started developing lists of hate groups and maps of where they were located (ergo, the"Hate Map") which included the no-brainers like the Nazi Party of America, the Ku Klux Klan, the White Knights of the Something-or-other. Slowly but surely they started listing conservative groups as "hate groups". They even listed a small order of Roman Catholic nuns (whose mission was to provide nursing care for the poor) as a hate group because they opposed abortion and so "were working to suppress women's rights." Big problem is the number of companies and agencies who wholeheartedly take the SPLC's Hate List without questioning.
The first thing I see is how great to know our church will survive no matter what evil befalls it. But a second thing is see is a humbling coming to it, I see that from the hard hats and maybe a sign that the church needs to humble itself some more. maybe.
