The church that collapsed in Rome is said to be built over the prison where St Peter was thought to be held before his crucifixion. The St Peter connection is boggling my mind...

Lord, have mercy on us all.

  10. Supreme Court rejects request from Catholic foster care non-profit that refused to certify married same-sex couples

Washington (CNN)The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled against a Catholic foster care non-profit in Philadelphia that refuses to certify married same-sex couples as prospective foster parents out of religious objections to same-sex marriage.

In a one sentence order, the justices let stand a lower court ruling that had blocked Catholic Social Services from taking on new applicants to its foster program.
The ruling is a loss for Catholic Social Services, which had asked for an emergency injunction while the dispute plays out in the lower courts. Justices Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch and Clarence Thomas noted they would have granted the request. It would have taken five votes to grant the request, but it's unclear what the final vote count was because justices don't have to publicly reveal their vote in such situations.
The group receives city funds when it places a child in foster care, but it will not comply with Philadelphia's anti-discrimination ordinance that the city says requires all groups that certify prospective parents to do so regardless of the applicants' religion, race, marital status or sexual orientation.

A lower court blocked the charity from taking any new candidates to serve as foster parents while the case plays out in the lower courts. The ruling meant that there would not be any new placements of foster children within the non-profit's in home foster care program.
The case is the latest clash between religious freedom and same-sex marriage to reach the high court. Last term, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of a baker who refused to make a cake for a same-sex couple out of religious objections to same-sex marriage.
In court papers, lawyers for the Catholic Social Services argued that the city "cannot demand that religious groups parrot its views as a pre-condition to serving foster children" and "it cannot retaliate against" the group by "shutting down Catholic's foster care programs" without violating its religious freedom.
The city of Philadelphia argued that Catholic Social Services is one of 30 nonprofit agencies that provide services for foster parents and children in the city's public child welfare system through contracts with the city's Department of Human Services. They say that no one is "compelling" the group to apply for the city-funded contracts and that the group can simply choose not to participate.
"The contract obligates CSS to adhere to the City's long-standing non-discrimination policies and laws in performing the services required," city lawyers write.
"The freedom of religion entitles faith-based organizations to participate in government programs on the same terms as other contractors; it does not entitle faith-based government contractors to alter the government services provided to confirm to their religious beliefs, or to opt out on religious grounds of some of the contract provisions," they wrote.

My humble opinion is that Putin is playing the U.S. media (Democrat Party) and the Trump administration at the same time. The affect has accelerated existing divisions within U.S. population who find it difficult to determine whats true.

  17. You just have to look at the measures Putin was so willing to use within history like in Chechnya ..... the rebellious kind of Muslims have also threatened his homeland. Whether chemical or just conventional weapons used in this new situation in Syria the slaughter of the civilian population is likely to be a blood bath once this new "clean out" starts. The UN has been alerted...ha! And remember always.....Syria is Putin's foothold in the ever desired Middle East positioning....so defending that foothold is to him like defending the homeland! Don't be disillusioned by any lack of true reading of Putin's history.

To Putin, Assad’s Enemies in Syria are the Same as Russia’s in Chechnya

Now what does this remind you of? “After an attempt to seize Grozny by land ended in defeat, Yeltsin resorted to … pounding the city from the air. Thousands of civilians died in the attacks on the capital. Two years of gruesome fighting [in Chechnya] killed tens of thousands of civilians and probably 15,000 Russian soldiers. Putin … cemented his rise to power by launching a new campaign that would be equally bloody, but would eventually bring the territory back under Moscow’s control. He filled the airwaves with tough talk, promising to hunt down the Chechen bandits … The Chechen battle was portrayed as a terrorist struggle against the legitimate Russian state. This was partly true – the Chechens did begin to use terror as a weapon.”

Sound familiar? I owe the above quotation to Shaun Walker’s new take on the Putin years in his book, The Long Hangover: Putin’s New Russia and the Ghosts of the Past – and it doesn’t stop there.

In early 2000, in one of his first interviews, Putin told the Chechens they were not under attack from Russia – they were being brought under its “protection”. The Chechens were not a defeated people, Putin announced. “They are a liberated people.” And all this, according to Walker, while Putin’s fighter jets “were bombing Grozny, raining more misery down on a city that already seemed as though it had reached total devastation”.

Walker himself is an old-school reporter, padding the broken pavements and shattered buildings rather than pontificating from Moscow – he wrote for The Independent before moving to what we used to call “Another Newspaper” – and he assiduously follows through on the Chechen story, observing the rise to power of the faithful Akhmad Kadyrov and then, after the latter’s assassination, of his equally faithful (and brutal) son Ramzan.

    ........

The parallels should not be drawn too closely. Putin was trying to restore Chechnya to Russian sovereignty. In Ghouta – or in Aleppo – he was and is trying to restore sovereignty to Syria. The Chechen “bandits” and “terrorists” were real enough. And so, slowly and ponderously, we ourselves are beginning to admit, amid the bloodbath of civilians, that al-Qaeda and fellow Islamists are real enough in Ghouta.

And of course, by “restoring” eastern Ghouta (or Aleppo) to the Damascus government, Putin is furthering Russian power. Besieged autocrats can count on Moscow. Could Mubarak count on Washington? Or could Ben Ali count on France?

There are, however, other small Chechen ghosts floating over Syria. A large number of Chechen Islamists, fleeing the forests of Chechnya after Russia’s victory, arrived in Syria to attack the regime.

One of the Syrian army’s most devastating setbacks occurred on a mountain top south of the Turkish border, when a Chechen jihadi suicide-bombed a military base by driving a captured armoured car into the compound. He killed every one of the Syrian defenders. The explosion was so vast that an eyewitness on a neighbouring hilltop told me he saw fire reaching into the clouds – and then continuing above the clouds into the empty sky.

The Russians know exactly who they are fighting in Syria, which is why Russian pilot Roman Filipov blew himself up with his own grenade rather than be captured by Islamists. For Putin, those Chechens who resisted his firepower inside Russia are merely continuing their struggle inside a Russian ally further to the south.

Eliminate them, Putin believes, and then make peace with your erstwhile enemies later. It’s been a policy maintained, up to a point, by Damascus. The earlier siege of Deraya on the edge of Damascus was ended in a series of “reconciliation” committees and mutual ceasefire promises.

The distance between Grozny and Damascus is less than 900 miles. From the Kremlin walls, the minarets of Damascus are not in the “Middle East”; they are due south. Russian power doesn’t end at its own frontiers – nor did it in Stalin’s day. His Red Army did not halt at the Soviet frontier in 1945. It pursued the “fascist beast” to its lair in Berlin. And Chechnya remains very much in Putin’s mind today.

When he chose to call a major Islamic conference inside Russia, he welcomed clerical delegates from Egypt, Syria and other largely Sunni Muslim nations where they excoriated Salafism and its entire works. Saudi Arabia was virtually excommunicated.

The fact that the conference was officially held under the auspices of the awful Ramzan Kadyrov made no difference to the delegates. In any case, most of them live under Kadyrov-like masters. Putin had made his point.

Equally, he has arranged that Chechens should help rebuild – and fund – the 11th century minaret of the great Omayad mosque in Aleppo, brought down in the fighting of 2013 (for which both sides, needless to say, blame each other). Chechen prelates were freighted into Syria to pray at the mosque.

Even in Palmyra, captured by Isis, recovered by the Syrian government, recaptured by Isis – to Putin’s anger – and then recovered once again, there is a Chechen component to Russia’s presence. Moscow’s foot patrols in the city are often made up of Russian soldiers – from Chechnya.

This does not mean that Putin is somehow recreating Russia’s past struggles inside Syria. What it does means is that Putin has learned from the Chechen war and has not forgotten its lessons – which include both ruthlessness and cunning.

For him, Assad’s enemies today were Russia’s enemies in Chechnya – in a few cases, the very same individuals – and, however much horror we express at the outrageous killing of civilians, we should not be surprised. Once superpowers become involved in Middle East wars, “terms and conditions” do not apply. Until it’s over. Did anyone mention Iraq?

  18. Some of the messages to Luz de Maria pertaining to Russia....from Jesus and mostly from Our Lady, "Queen and Mother of the End Times", title and all it contains, and prayer/novena approved by the local Bishop there:

    ......
"the Heavenly Mother dictated a prayer for all of God’s People, with which She invites us to invoke Her especially in these instants of great tribulation and confusion inside and outside the Church.

Grateful to Heaven for such a great heavenly gift, we exhort the People of God to receive with faith and gratitude over this divine help that springs from the loving Will of God that wants to protect all of us in the present and the future through the maternal help of the “Queen and Mother of the End Times".

I grant the “imprimatur” to this new invocation, to the prayer with which we can implore Her with confidence and to the representation or image that artistically expresses the vision had by Luz de María, at the same time I extend the invitation to participate in the novena to prepare for the feast of our ¨ QUEEN AND MOTHER OF THE END TIMES¨ whose feast day will be on August 28."

    † IMPRIMATUR,

    Bishop of Diocese of Estelí

PROPHECIES AND REVELATIONS GIVEN TO MARY THAT LET US UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF CONSECRATING RUSSIA TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY (from 2017 going back to 2015....there are more from earlier as well, not listed here....too much!)

"Stay expectant, Russia will make a decision that will affect all of Europe directly and indirectly to the whole world.

Pray My children, pray for Russia, you will choose and your choice will be the great discord that will cause man against the other, causing irreparable damage.

Pray My children, pray for Russia, it has not yet been consecrated to My Immaculate Heart.

Pray for Russia, it will surprise the world.

Pray children, for Russia, the wolf hides behind the skin of a sheep.

Pray children, pray for Russia: the one who sleeps, awakens on Humanity.

Beloved People of Mine, pray for Russia, awaken the sleeping giant and show off its power.

Pray My children, pray, Russia rises, the one that seemed asleep is busy against Humanity and in a temporary alliance, it is feared by all.

Pray children, pray, Russia awakens the world, pray, the pain comes from the hand of an alliance.

Beloved My People, communism seems to decrease, this is a strategy of evil to create a new form of captivity, which will be delivered to the allies of the usurper.

Pray for Russia, it will be the scourge of Humanity, it has earned the desired time.

As the request of My Mother in Fatima has not been fulfilled, the consequences of this disobedience will be of great suffering for My children. When humanity awakens, it will regret not having insisted on such compliance and will regret it even in the bowels.

Do not confuse My children, the struggle will intensify as the moment advances. There is still a lack of fulfillment of Great Revelations that concern the salvation of humanity, it has not been fulfilled with the Consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart, they have consecrated France to the Sacred Heart of My Son and to the whole world, BUT THEY HAVE NOT FULFILLED MY GREAT PETITION TO AVOID THE CALAMITIES AND THE GREAT SUFFERING OF THIS GENERATION.

TIME IS NOT TIME, IT IS INSTANT, AND WITHIN THAT INSTANT IT SEEMS THAT ROME DOES NOT LOOK AT THE INSTANT AS IT DOES NOT FULFILL MY REQUEST.

My Son has accepted the good intentions of some of My beloved Pedros, entrusted to the world to My Immaculate Heart, but has not complied with My Indications fully.

    ........My beloved ones:
The military power of Russia has not been exposed to be admired, but so that the world knows with what will be attacked. It is the cry in silence for you to look at the power of those who will rush against humanity, using at the same time those small countries with which they have created faithful alliances to reaffirm power, and at this moment they are satellites of the great destroyer : Communism"

  19. One can at least hope....but this seems more like it's only for public consumption:

Iran, Russia, Turkey Leaders Urge "Negotiated Political Process" On Idlib As Putin And Erdogan Clash

Amidst extreme tensions ratcheting up over the past days as Russian and Syrian forces have initiated their final assault on al-Qaeda held Idlib, the presidents of Iran, Russia, and Turkey are meeting in what's broadly described as a "high stakes summit" in Tehran on Friday.

Pressure is high after Thursday evening statements by a top State Department envoy on Syria, who told reporters, "There is lots of evidence that chemical weapons are being prepared." The envoy, Jim Jeffrey, doubled down on prior promises that "Assad would be guilty" for any future chemical attack in Syria.

But it seems what appears to be a coordinated White House effort at calculated pressure to deter the Syria-Russia operation in Idlib is having an effect. An early statement from the summit carried in Iran state media says Iran, Russia, and Turkey have agreed that the Syria conflict can only end through "negotiated political process" and not through military means.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reportedly pushed for a cease-fire plan at the summit, warning that the massive Idlib battle would be "a bloodbath" and will be a serious national security threat to his country, and further warned of a "humanitarian catastrophe" unfolding.

However Russian President Vladimir Putin underscored Syrian sovereignty and Assad's "right" to regain control over territory currently held by terrorists. This, in line with President Assad's prior promises to "regain every inch" of Syrian national territory before the war.

"Idlib isn't just important for Syria's future, it is of importance for our national security and for the future of the region," Erdogan said during formal statements at the Friday summit. "Any attack on Idlib would result in a catastrophe. Any fight against terrorists requires methods based on time and patience," he added, saying "we don't want Idlib to turn into a bloodbath." He concluded "We must find a reasonable way out for Idlib."

Putin responded, "We should think together over all aspects of this complicated issue," while asserting, "We should solve this issue together and (we should) all realize that the legitimate Syrian government has the right and eventually should be able to regain control of all of its territory."

Putin hinted at being open to a ceasefire, nothing "a cease-fire would be good" but suggested that it ultimately wouldn't hold. He also warned that according to Russian intelligence insurgents in Idlib are planning "provocations," possibly including chemical weapons.

Iran's president Hassan Rouhani demanded an immediate withdrawal of US troops, telling his Russian and Turkish counterparts, "we have to force the United States to leave," but didn't detail exactly how this would be done.

"The fires of war and bloodshed in Syria are reaching their end," Rouhani said, and reaffirmed alongside Putin that terrorism must "be uprooted in Syria, particularly in Idlib."

  20. Virtue

Allegedly a completely red heifer has been born. The Jews have been trying to generate one for decades (there are literally farms meant just to breed one, and apparently they have used frozen embryos of cows as well) because it is supposed to be a sign that precedes the Third Temple and the coming of the Messiah. Evangelicals are going nuts because they think the Third Temple will be built just before Judgment Day. Here is a link to an article on it, but BEWARE THERE ARE TONS OF LEWD ADS ON THIS PAGE: https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/we...sh-christianity-israel-jerusalem-third-temple.

I don't know if this means anything. I tend to think that the red heifer doesn't mean anything, however it may inadvertently lead to end-time events if it provokes Israel to destroy the Dome of the Rock. I also think I read somewhere that the Catholic understanding is that there is no Third Temple...we are the new temples of God. If there's a third temple, it will probably be used by the Antichrist to deceive people.
