Continuation of the story of the search for Peter's bones: The Secret Search For The Bones Of Peter July 3, 2018 by sd [Part Two:] When we left off [see Part One], a secret investigation launched by Pope Pius XII had located what were widely regarded as Peter’s bones — in a deep necropolis beneath the main altar in St. Peter’s Basilica, proving out Christ’s words that “this is Peter and on this rock I will build My Church.” If actually documented, the Apostle’s bones would provide compelling — in fact overwhelming — reason to consider Catholicism the root of Christianity. Were they? News of the remains were reported in 1949, right after the “curse” of floodwaters nearly destroyed the burial ground beneath the basilica — graves that went back to the period even before Christ walked this earth. But the “curse” — which through the centuries was said to have felled many who tried to find his bones — still seemed extant, for it was to be learned, by a brilliant archeologist and expert at inscription named Margherita Guarducci — that the bone fragments kept in secret lead-lined boxes at the papal apartments did not belong to Peter. There always had been certain doubts, writes John O’Neill (in The Fisherman’s Tomb: The True Story of the Vatican’s Secret Search.); Peter was said to have been buried under a golden Cross or some form of monument, but the bones in those lead-lined boxes had been in a simple dirt grave. There was no bronze casket and associated burial treasure, as recorded in the Book of Popes — which lists every single Pontiff going back to the great Apostle who was crucified upside-down in Rome. Though a bit off center (as opposed to the bones found directly under the altar), Guarducci found that amid what previous investigators had took to be meaningless scratches in an ancient, buried structure called “Graffiti Wall” was an inscription — overlooked by the first team of archeologists — that said, “Christian men buried near your body.” Not just a necropolis, but a Christian one! It almost immediately became more dramatic when Guarducci found a photograph of another ancient inscription on Graffiti Wall and saw these incredible words: “Peter is here.” Working day and night in the necropolis — and doing so for what would in the end be more than twenty-five years — Guarducci also had discovered a hole at the bottom of the Graffiti Wall. It was an ancient, marble-lined wall niche and she learned that bones had been found in it and whisked away by the man who previously had headed the search and considered them meaningless, placing them in a simple wooden box in a storeroom. It turned out these were the actual bones of the Apostle. “Like the fictional storage of the Ark of the Covenant in Raiders of the Lost Ark, Guarducci had stumbled upon the solution to the mystery of Peter, but it would be many years before she or anyone else realized it,” says O’Neill. The evidence was all around them! Other inscriptions on the wall said things such as “Peter, pray for me” — and were dated to the late 100s A.D. In fact the Apostle’s name was inscribed deep down in this newly discovered necropolis more than twenty times! Clearly, notes the author, “early Christians had prayed to Peter here, in the presence of the actual relics.” And the surroundings were precisely as expected by ancient descriptions of how he was buried. Moreover, when forensic tests were conducted on pieces of cranium, jaw, tooth, vertebrae, pelvis, legs, arms, and hands, what was further learned was further astounding. The bones, which were very close to that incredible inscription “Peter is here,” were of a sixty-to-seventy-year-old robust male — “approximately Peter’s supposed age when he died,” writes O’Neill. More amazing, it was determined that they once had been reinterred and covered with an early purple and gold cloth “whose dye was of a type only used by Imperial Romans of the first to third centuries.” The remains also were consistent with a person crucified upside-down. The feet had been viciously cut off — as Romans did because it was quicker than removing nails… By this time Pius XII was dead, and the matter was in the hands of Pope Paul VI, who likewise was courageously in his pursuit of the truth, even if it led to proof that Peter was not under the basilica. He was. The inscriptions and bones proved it. The announcement was made in 1968 — and ignored by much of the world, especially Protestants, who literally interpret Scripture and who would be troubled by the passage about Christ and how He would build His Church on the Rock of Peter. Right there under the greatest church on earth. Shortly after his election, Pope Francis visited the necropolis and prayed at the grave near Graffiti Wall. After yet another detailed review of evidence that had been gathered for nearly a century, the current Pontiff had the bones publicly displayed. Clutching them to his chest, Francis declared that these were indeed Peter’s relics. He thus became the third Pope to affirm Peter’s burial on Vatican Hill, despite earlier Church skepticism. Not only was Catholicism proved out,as well as the Pontificate, but there was one more more thing — and an electrifying one at that: one that Protestants should (must) also take note of, in the interest of honesty. The inscriptions on Graffiti Wall, dating back to Peter’s time, showed, writes O’Neill, a lawyer, that “early Christians prayed to Christ and also invoked the aid of Mary, Peter, and other saints.”

Wade' Film Now Shooting in New Orleans (Exclusive) Nick Loeb, famous for battling ex Sofia Vergara over frozen embryos, is co-directing a pro-life story of the landmark Supreme Court case, with a cast including conservative stars Jon Voight, Robert Davi and Stacey Dash. As Nick Loeb walked to his car with a production assistant during a day of shooting his upcoming feature film, Roe v. Wade, outside of Tulane University last week, a woman wearing a headset approached and asked: “Are you the director?” “When I told her I was, she told me to ‘Go flook myself,’ Loeb recalls. "Then she threw her headset on the ground and walked off. I found out later she was our electrician." Anecdotes such as this have become fairly common since Loeb and his production partner Cathy Allyn began shooting their pro-life feature film June 15 in and around New Orleans. While Loeb has been in the news in recent years because of his ongoing custody battle over frozen embryos with former girlfriend Sofia Vergara of Modern Family, there’s been little information about the filmmaker's new project, save for a flurry of articles five weeks ago alleging that Facebook wasn’t allowing him to use its platform to raise money for the story of the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that guaranteed a woman's right to an abortion. The radio silence — until now — has been by design, both for the security of the cast and crew and in order to obtain shooting locations. To accomplish the latter, Loeb and Allyn have been shooting the film, which will wrap principal photography around July 15, under a fake title that the pair still will not disclose. The film has been under such tight wraps that even the major cast members had not been revealed; Two Supreme Court justices are played by a couple of Hollywood’s more outspoken conservatives — Jon Voight and Robert Davi, and other justices are played by Corbin Bernsen, John Schneider, Steve Guttenberg, William Forsythe, Wade Williams and Richard Portnow. Even with the secrecy, it’s been a challenging shoot. At Louisiana State University, Loeb says, “we were told we were rejected due to our content, even though it will be a PG-rated film. McCorvey’s attorneys, Linda Coffee and Sarah Weddington, are played, respectively, by Justine Wachsberger and Greer Grammer, Kelsey Grammer’s daughter, while Lucy Davenport plays famed Feminine Mystique author Betty Friedan. Among the crew members who quit in protest was a costumer who left after two weeks “because of the subject matter and pressure from her peers,” says Allyn. Even the director, also a woman, quit on the first day of shooting, so Loeb and Allyn are co-directing. They are also producers and they co-wrote the script. And when they shot in Washington, DC, their location manager there sent an email that read: “I have been doing research on the movie trying to figure out who is producing and what the gist of the story is and I finally found it and so I am withdrawing from this project. Father Kevin Scallon! This great Irish disciple of Christ just made his way to the Heavenly Father. Dear father Kevin has been one of the best supporters of Our Lady so far. On the 37th Anniversary of the apparitions of Medjugorje (June 25th), he was found lying on the floor in his residence, in Florida. The evening before, as he said that he was not feeling too well, he decided to stay home, pray the rosary and receive Holy Communion. These were his last actions on earth. He was 83. Of course, we are happy for him that he has now returned to the Lord whom he dedicated his life and ministry to. But how we miss his gentle re-assuring presence here on earth! However we will have a great advocate too in paradise guiding and watching out for us just as he always did here. We will pray to Our Lady that she may "caress our souls" in this sorrowful time for his family and close friends, especially for Sister Briege McKenna who collaborated with him for 44 years, leading missions for priests all over the world! May the offering of this deep mourning be source of blessings for those who morn without knowing Jesus! Fr. Seems today that people....the usual suspects at least....are just downright suicidal. They'd prefer crime and chaos because their lives thrive only on disruption, violence and immorality. The law has been neglected for so long now that one must expect a long haul before things get orderly again. Seems it's also the same big cities, run by corrupt Dems who spend other people's money worse than that "drunken sailor" and still remain in massive debt that have encouraged this behavior. I had heard about the movie; had not heard about the backlash; and have heard nothing about the frozen embryos, as I spend too much time reading sites like MOG to be concerned about Hollywood scandals. (Except for Marvel movies. I live for them.)
What led to the Fall of the Roman Empire is a first question in loads of colleges right across the world. This is a more important question that the actual tribes and races that defeated them. Some historians have claimed that it was the introduction of Christianity that weakened the Romans. I think it was the Fall of their moral compass; you can see this in Europe and the USA at the moment. I was watching a PBS series on Vietnam. There is one very touching series of interviews with a Veteran and one thing he said struck me, he said, "When I was young we all believed that everything our Government said was honest'. He laughed sadly as he said this. How many of us now in the West would say this? No one. . It is the other way around. We are more inclined to think everything they say is a lie. Maybe we would be right.
They're confusing cause and effect: Christianity didn't weaken the Romans; it took advantage of existing internal weaknesses. At the time of Christ, almost 10% of the Empire was made up of either Jews or Noahide Gentiles -- Gentiles who proclaimed a faith in the God of the Jews but practiced a subset of Jewish laws (i.e., not to eat the meat of animals that have been strangled or offered to pagan gods, etc.) Israel had to be destroyed because 10% of the population looked to there for spiritual guidance. When you have leaders who proclaim themselves gods, such leaders cannot tolerate people who do not worship them. The thing is, when the Romans exiled a majority of the Jews, this included those Jews who believed in Jesus. Only a small portion of Christians were served up as entertainment in the Coliseums, because they acted so bravely and faithfully in the face of horrible deaths. Instead of scaring away the people, this caused them to explore Christianity, to find out what gave them such faith. Given the options of following a corrupt pagan system and the honorable Christian system, people started choosing the Christian system in large numbers. In the end, had the Roman leaders chosen Christianity sooner (as happened in the East), the Roman Empire might have been able to withstand the attacks of the Goths, Visigoths, and Irish. (Because how can you have a good fight without at least ONE Irishman in the mix!)
The Fall of the Roman Empire is a funny thing, the same as the present Fall of the West. God writes straight in crooked lines and who can know the mind of God? However let that us not stop us guessing. Jesus was born as a baby into the only peaceful time in the history of the world in a point equally distant from the East and the West. In other words in the centre of the world. I think the Roman Empire , like Judaism itself was meant as a temporary vehicle for the Birth of the Faith. The Jews, for instance were the most literate people in the world, the Romans had the Greatest and most powerful Empire. The Good Lord knew both would fail. The Jews by the rejection of the Messiah the Romans by the Fall of Empire. But both would serve as temporary vehicles for the transmission of the truth. Their failure was the Churches chance. It is the same with America and the West and at the moment. Their rejection of the Faith is the chance for the Faith to be reborn and transmutted anew.

Sigh, I am afraid the site has been under some kind of attack, not for the first time recently. John fixed it for me, but I will ring him tomorrow to see how to protect things. I was speaking to a guy from the USA who wanted to charge me 300$ dollars a month. LOL. I will see, if God wants to see the site remain it will, if not it won't.
