This actually started with me calling out CrewDog on his preposterous claim that Antifa and BLM were going to take down interstate commerce. CrewDog brought up Charlie and started ranting. CathyG did a drive-by, also about Charlie. DeGaulle jumped in, to defend Charlie's honor, or something... Go yell at somebody else, Picadillo.
The worst interpretation is fraud. There are alternative explanations, such as self-delusion. He may himself continue to believe in some of these 'visions'. We are supposed to not assume the worst motives of an individual unless there is unambiguous evidence. The bishop has declared the 'visions' as 'inaccurate', but he has not accused Charlie Johnson of fraud. [I happen to agree with the bishop, but would be bound to obey his statement, even if I disagreed. However, I could still legitimately disagree as we are not dealing with dogma or doctrine]. You also disagree with the bishop as you go further in your condemnation than he does.
These oligarchs will feel little real pain and can easily rebuild. It is the ordinary inhabitants who have lost everything, God help them.
The archbishop would not accuse Charlie of fraud as that is not a matter under his jurisdiction. The Church does not investigate charges of fraud, but investigates apparitions in terms of whether they are supernatural or not (worthy of belief). They take behavior such as money making, into account when making their decision regarding the status of apparitions. Charlie said at one point he wasn't sure if his presidential election prediction was true or not. Yet, he is behind the marketing of goods that are valuable only if they have some "supernatural" connection. He might not himself be sure whether his prayer is miraculous, but by selling it as a miraculous prayer, is defrauding people who are purchasing it with that assumption. Do you get the distinction I'm making? Even if he is uncertain, selling something with an implied "seal" of the Blessed Mother is fraudulent. Would you prefer a different word? Dishonest? ETA: I've said as much as I have to say on this, DeGaulle. I'm interested in your reply, but am otherwise finished.
Here is an article which "assesses" some of the damage caused by Hurricane Irma, https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/201...Hurricane-Irma-batters-Florida/8751505126657/ We have very good friends who live in Brevard County, east of Orlando. They are about a 30min. drive from the beach and they have lost both electricity and water. I think the news is lagging a little bit with their "assessments". In the next few days everyone will know how bad it really is in Florida and I pray that it won't be very bad. I read that some of the Caribbean Islands are very low on supplies like food, water and medicine. In addition, even though they might not have taken a direct hit from the second storm, Hurricane Jose, this storm caused a delay in some of the support headed there. Also, many people have been stranded in the Caribbean including tourists, business people and students. Hopefully, all those whom are trying to get home will be able to do so soon. There has been some looting in Florida but I believe that there has been a lot of looting in the Caribbean. Some are stealing food and water to survive but some are armed with guns and machetes and there is a rumor several prisoners escaped on Saint Martin and they may have murdered some people. Many of these little islands like the Turk and Cacaos Islands lack much of an infrastructure to begin with. Hopefully "law and order" will be restored soon. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/10/world/americas/irma-caribbean-st-martin.html I'm still praying for those affected by these hurricanes. It is good that Richard Branson and Robert DeNiro have vowed to help people affected by these storms, both of whom have homes in the Caribbean islands.
Carol 55, good! God bless you. God bless the people making all these efforts. May we each find time to pray for these intentions, and maybe find a way to send some help. There is a good Bishop in Virgin islands, Bishop Bevard, who is older. He used to be in the Baltimore Diocese. Now he has a diocese in the VI and we have not heard yet how bad it is for him down there. He would come up to our parish for missions begging for help even before the storm struck. He also did our Confirmations one year. Just saying how we can boil it down to people we know, like Carol just did.
My final word. The three necessary conditions for Mortal Sin: 1). Grave matter 2). Full knowledge 3). Deliberate consent Allowing the possibility of uncertainty, which you have done, this would exclude no. 2). Unless you are implying civil fraud, which would be a matter for the police, who probably have more important things to do. You seem to want it both ways. You use the bishop's decision to promote your case that Charlie was wrong, but dismiss the bishop as irrelevant when his decision doesn't support your more grievous allegations, which you have not credibly substantiated.
Perhaps there should be a secondary column here for "weird" signs or "unsolved mysteries"! Meteorologists baffled by bizarre isolated winds that whip San Francisco Bay Area Meteorologists are baffled by strong wind gusts that ripped through concentrated pockets of the Bay Area early Monday morning, while other areas remained completely still. The National Weather Service reports that a gust of 54 mph roared through Pebble Beach at 2:30 a.m., while only 10 minutes away in Monterey conditions remained completely calm. "We had a very unusual event happen overnight," says Charles Bell, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Bay Area. "We had isolated strong periods of winds. It's really remarkable. Usually wind storms are more widespread, while this wind occurred in concentrated pockets." The first gusts roared through Pebble Beach and the southwesterly winds traveled north reaching up to 40 mph in Santa Cruz, up to 37 mph in Los Gatos and at the San Jose Airport. The weather service recorded the last gust from the event at 3:30 a.m.; it was a 35 mph wind at the Golden Gate Bridge. Bell says there are anecdotal reports of high winds in parts of Marin. http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/wind-Bay-Area-Pebble-Beach-meteorologists-baffled-12188308.php
You're off the mark, DeGaulle. I never claimed Charlie was guilty of mortal sin. You brought up that term and you are focusing on that. Don't change terms.
Just in case anyone is counting: Septembergeddon? 27 Major Disasters Have Already Happened So Far This Month When I originally pointed to the month of September as a critical time, I had no idea that we would see so many catastrophic natural disasters during this time frame as well. Hurricane Harvey just broke the all-time record for rainfall in the continental United States, Hurricane Irma is so immensely powerful that it has been called “a lawnmower from the sky”, vast stretches of our country out west are literally being consumed by fire, and the magnitude-8.2 earthquake that just hit Mexico was completely unexpected. As I have stated so many times before, our planet is becoming increasingly unstable, but most people simply do not understand what is happening. My good friend Zach Drew posted the best summary of the major disasters that we have been experiencing so far this month that I have seen anywhere… More: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-...-disasters-have-already-happened-so-far-month
Bones attributed to St Peter found by chance in 1,000-year-old church in Rome The relics of the saint, who is regarded as the first Pope, were found in clay pots in the 1,000-year-old Church of Santa Maria in Cappella in the district of Trastevere, a medieval warren of cobbled lanes on the banks of the Tiber River. The bones were discovered when a worker lifted up a large marble slab near the medieval altar of the church, which has been closed to the public for 35 years because of structural problems. He came across two Roman-era pots with inscriptions on their lids indicating that inside were not only bone fragments from St Peter but also three early popes – Cornelius, Callixtus and Felix – as well as four early Christian martyrs. ......It had been known for centuries that the relics might exist – they are recorded on a stone inscription in the church, which claimed they were kept alongside a fragment of a dress worn by the Blessed Virgin. But until now, the relics had never been found. The remains have been handed to the Vatican for further study. Without proper analysis, it is impossible to say whether they belong to St Peter. “We’re waiting for a detailed study to be undertaken,” said the deacon. “A DNA comparison between these bones and those kept by the Vatican would shed light on the issue.” It is not yet known how or why the relics came to be interred in the Church of Santa Maria in Cappella, which was consecrated in 1090. One theory is that they were transferred there from the Vatican by Pope Urban II at a time of schism within the Catholic Church. While Urban was generally recognised as the legitimate pope, he faced a challenge from an anti-pope, Clement III, who had set up a rival power base in Rome, backed by the Holy Roman Emperor Henry IV. The church in Trastevere was closely linked to Pope Urban and may have been seen by him as a secure place in which to hide the bones. Wow CrewDog, thank you for your dedication to our nation and people on a professional and personal level. You have clearly given much of yourself for others.
Everyone might want to pay attention to things like this. They left early. Gearing up ladies and Gents. https://www.upi.com/Defense-News/20...ea-trials-early-after-overhaul/4241502741478/ USS John C. Stennis aircraft carrier is underway for sea trials sooner than expected following a 6-month overhaul and upgrade at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Wash. The ship has departed three days ahead of schedule despite the Stennis having a much larger overhaul then is normal for a carrier refit. "Overall, the work package was 140 percent above the normal amount for a CVN-class carrier availability," Cmdr. Ken Holland, John C. Stennis' chief engineer and availability coordinator, said in a press release. "But with shipyard and ship's force coming together, we were able to overcome obstacles as a team and work together every day to complete the task we needed to, becoming more efficient and ultimately resulting in us arriving at this point ahead of schedule." The John C. Stennis Nimitz-class aircraft carrier is the flagship of Carrier Strike Group Three including its carrier air wing of up to 70 aircraft and the Ticonderoga-class cruiser USS Mobile Bay. The sea trials are a normal testing route for the ship's systems and weapons prior to the carrier's operational deployment. The Stennis is part of the U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet. Carrier Strike Group Three will begin its operations in the Pacific during a time of heightened tensions with North Korea over their ballistic missile and nuclear capabilities, amid threats of military action from both North Korea and the United States.
This really is my last word. In terms of wrongdoing, mortal sin is all that matters. If this discussion isn't about that it has been a waste of time, with no worthwhile terms to talk about. I'm not about to get obsessed over anyone's venial or non-sins.

This isn't too far from the lovely pilgrimage spot of Altotting. We lived not too far from there in Bavaria.....so easy back then to find gorgeous churches in little villages with their onion dome steeples. Catholic area of S. Germany....at least it used to be! Pilgrims flock to Bavarian village for 'second apparition of Virgin Mary' ...... Returning from the chapel about half an hour later with a page full of writing, Caputa said: “Mary wants you to pray to her. She is greatly troubled.” He urged those present to “bring peace into your hearts” and added that she had pronounced her love for Austria and Germany, and would return on 19 March at 4.30pm. Otto Masszi, the owner of the private chapel and an environmentalist in Munich’s administrative district office, said it was a “fantastic message” to hear that the Virgin Mary was to return. “That tells me that (until then) nothing will happen to our beautiful world. No asteroid will destroy the earth, there’ll be no world war three, no epidemic,” he said. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...-village-for-second-apparition-of-virgin-mary ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Altotting (Altoetting): “The Lourdes of Germany” Shrine of the Black Madonna About the Miracles in Altotting: In the heart of Bavaria lies the town of Allotting It is often called the “Lourdes of Germany” due to the thousands of pilgrims who come here every year in search of healing. An alternate spelling on some maps and in some guide books is Altotting. The shrine’s reputation began in 1489 when a 3-year old child drowned in a nearby pond. Her mother rushed the dead body to the altar where a statue of Our Lady (the Black Madonna) stood. As the mother pleaded for his life to be returned to him, he opened his eyes and was restored to life. Another somewhat similar miraculous healing occurred a few years later and involve another young person, this time a child had been crushed under a cart. Once again a distraught mother brought her child to the chapel and once again the child was restored to life. About the Shrine: Today the shrine attracts over 1 million pilgrims each year. The many crutches and other votives on display there testify to the healings attributed to the intercession of Our Lady of Altotting. In 1980 Pope John Paul II made a pilgrimage here. A young Joseph Ratzinger came here with his father when growing up and it is known to be one of his favorite shrines long before he became Pope or even a Cardinal. Many young people from Germany make pilgrimages here in the summer time, often walking for 50 miles or more on their journey. The small chapel is in the middle of a square and barely holds 100 people so be prepared for crowds. Fortunately on the times we have visited it was not crowded but either way it is a great pilgrimage destination. Private Masses for groups can be scheduled in advance. Altoetting is approximately 60 miles East of Munich.
Yes, CrewDog, you used the same name on forums and linked to personal information. I am glad you are nowhere near me. I also said you had given me a remarkably hard time on this board for a long time, and asked why, and what your problem was. Perhaps you think your colorful persona gives you a pass to launch personal public attacks. I don't. And yes, I used a dog metaphor--for which I apologized on this thread, above--but overall I have stuck to the point of discussions/questions and talked about issues. You haven't. And no, of course the Signs thread is not the proper place for this. ETA: Tell me honestly, CrewDog, in your long life, is wormed and neutered the worst thing anyone ever said to you?
Frauds harm others, DeGaulle. Others fall for their schemes and lose time, money, faith. If you've wasted your time, you have no one to blame but yourself.
