I merely agreed with the statement signed by the judge that people who won't evacuate shouldn't expect to be rescued. And yes, people did refuse to leave their animals when they could have evacuated safely and waited for others to come and rescue them. I saw them on the news. No animal is worth endangering a human life no matter how much they regard the animal as family. You're right that no newscaster has condemned anyone who had to be rescued. Pets are being rescued but I saw a man on one news report say that he waited hours for transport to a centre because they would let him bring his dog. I saw rescuers go back through evacuated areas to save people who had refused to leave their animals. I can understand saving people before animals. I can't understand putting lives at risk for the sake of an animal. Valuing human life over animal life doesn't preclude praying that all lives will be saved.
In decivilisational terms, the whole tragedy is an inevitable consequence of the corrupting process of excessive urbanisation which has culminated in the building of vast conglomerations upon what are, in truth, flood plains. This is not to imply it is any fault of the unfortunate victims, God help them, but that it is another sign of a mis-step that mankind has taken in our 'inevitable march of progress' and that these errors are not without consequence. Excessive urbanisation leads to dehumanisation, loss of faith, breakdown of the family, individualisation, group-think, narrowing of experience and world-view, loss of independence and much more that is hard to categorise. Chesterton is excellent on this. These consequences are spiritual; tragedies such as urban flooding are physical-just as demographic collapse result from the spiritual ills of contraception. The collapse of Western Civilisation, which is really Christendom, is happening in so many different ways, as clarified by this and many other threads here, that the whole process is like a perfect storm. Many imagine that our modern world is a wonderful place, progressing ever more rapidly (although to God knows where), but is it more like an over-catalysed chemical reaction burning out much too fast-otherwise known as an explosion? May the Lord God have mercy on us all.
I certainly would be if I were them. We in the US have encircled them with missile batteries, declared in our own interests that we can pre eminently strike any nation threatening our interests and have tried to completely cut them off from the world financially. I'd say they are wise to prepare. Remember, Russia has stated that it will never fight another war on it's soil. Pretty sure we all understand that statement.
Well, that's very interesting. I haven't seen any of those reports on our news. We have been watching FOX . . .everything has just been very positive. Soooo, maybe a little news manipulation is going on. Haven't seen anything like that on my facebook posts either. I live in upper Michigan, just sayin'. In fact, I saw a report where people from another state were sending down hundreds of animal crates for the animals that did get left behind. So far, I would say the rescue efforts have been going very well, at least what we are hearing. The toughest time will be in the coming weeks when people start having ptsd symptoms and trying to figure out the next step.
In fairness, I don't think it was news manipulation. I got the impression that some shelters had taken in more people than they were expecting and either weren't set up for receiving animals or just didn't have room for them. Some people did leave their pets behind and volunteers went back to rescue them but there were other cases where people stayed behind with their pets - mostly cats. I watched reports on various news channels but I don't get Fox News. The common thread through all the news reports was the wonderful community spirit and can-do attitude of the people. There was something about it that brought to mind old Western movies except that the covered wagons were boats or pick-up trucks and the trails were flooded streets. Maybe this generation of Texans inherited some of that old pioneering spirit. Anyway, it was very impressive especially in such a big city. Texas must be a special place. Everyone praised the rescue efforts - by both the professionals and the amateurs. The only criticism I heard was on CNN where the likes of Paul Bergala were complaining that President Trump didn't display enough empathy with the victims. Considering the severity and extent of the storm and the number of people in its path, the death toll seems to be quite low. Please God, it will remain low.
Bergala has so little empathy for the victims that he reduces the disaster to just another opportunity to continue the relentless and unending CNN campaign against Donal Trump.
I'm pretty sure he said he's from Texas and his relatives had to evacuate so he was CNN's ace up the sleeve in the empathy stakes. I think he was a Bush staffer so CNN could safely trot him out without being accused of using a crisis to score political points. Maybe he learned from the Bushes how to wear his empathy on his sleeve. He and the Navarro woman are CNN's go-to Republicans when they want to appear impartial, often backed up by John McCann. I think that CNN must have McCain on speed dial.
To exploit your own for your particular political purposes is even more despicable. I suspect Texans will not be so easily fooled as, for example, Californians. The effect might be the opposite to that intended. What's Trump meant to do-cry useless tears? That would only be adding to the floods.
It's already political. The Republican Governor urged people in areas likely to be flooded to evacuate last week, even without an evacuation order. The Democratic Houston mayor assured people the city could handle the flood and urged everyone to shelter in place.
Is it appropriate to bring politics into a case of one man being luckier at guessing the future than another? Is there simply not too much politics? It's everywhere and involves everything.
Well, disasters do separate the men from the boys.....and you can see just who has the experience and good sense, and recognize those who aren't (weren't) exactly up for such an unexpected future happening. These days politics doesn't exactly call much for experience other than "schmoozing". You can see that in those critics who are whining about "empathy" over getting the job done.
And they trust that people will actually come looking for them?? Russian scientists to blast dead frozen people and pets into SPACE where they'll be preserved in secure pods KrioRus already has 54 people and 21 animals from all across the world within their labs - and a further 200 signed-up for the service http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/russian-scientists-blast-dead-people-11086403 ---------------------------------------------------------- And just "passing it on".....we already know about the effects of various types of hormones being flushed down the drain.....now this report: Antidepressants found in fish brains in Great Lakes region ......."These active ingredients from antidepressants, which are coming out from wastewater treatment plants, are accumulating in fish brains," Aga says. "It is a threat to biodiversity, and we should be very concerned. "These drugs could affect fish behavior. We didn't look at behavior in our study, but other research teams have shown that antidepressants can affect the feeding behavior of fish or their survival instincts. Some fish won't acknowledge the presence of predators as much." ............. "The levels of antidepressants found do not pose a danger to humans who eat the fish, especially in the U.S., where most people do not eat organs like the brain," Singh says. "However, the risk that the drugs pose to biodiversity is real, and scientists are just beginning to understand what the consequences might be." Has Google Become A Major Threat To Democracy In America? About 10 years ago, Tim Wu, the Columbia Law professor who coined the term network neutrality, made this prescient comment: “To love Google, you have to be a little bit of a monarchist, you have to have faith in the way people traditionally felt about the king.” Wu was right. And now, Google has established a pattern of lobbying and threatening to acquire power. It has reached a dangerous point common to many monarchs: The moment where it no longer wants to allow dissent. When Google was founded in 1998, it famously committed itself to the motto: “Don’t be evil.” It appears that Google may have lost sight of what being evil means, in the way that most monarchs do: Once you reach a pinnacle of power, you start to believe that any threats to your authority are themselves villainous and that you are entitled to shut down dissent. As Lord Acton famously said, “Despotic power is always accompanied by corruption of morality.” Those with too much power cannot help but be evil. Google, the company dedicated to free expression, has chosen to silence opposition, apparently without any sense of irony. In recent years, Google has become greedy about owning not just search capacities, video and maps, but also the shape of public discourse. As the Wall Street Journal recently reported, Google has recruited and cultivated law professors who support its views. And as the New York Times recently reported, it has become invested in building curriculum for our public schools, and has created political strategy to get schools to adopt its products. It is time to call out Google for what it is: a monopolist in search, video, maps and browser, and a thin-skinned tyrant when it comes to ideas. Google is forming into a government of itself, and it seems incapable of even seeing its own overreach. We, as citizens, must respond in two ways. First, support the brave researchers and journalists who stand up to overreaching power; and second, support traditional antimonopoly laws that will allow us to have great, innovative companies — but not allow them to govern us. – From Zephyr Teachout’s powerful arcticle: Google Is Coming After Critics in Academia and Journalism. It’s Time to Stop Them. The mask has finally come off Google’s face, and what lurks underneath looks pretty evil. 2017 has represented a coming out party of sorts for Google and the control-freaks who run it. The company’s response to the James Damore controversy made it crystal clear that executives at Google are far more interested in shoving their particular worldview down the throats of the public, versus encouraging vibrant and lively debate. This is not a good look for the dominant search engine. The creeping evilness of Google has been obvious for quite some time, but this troubling reality has only recently started getting the attention it deserves. The worst authoritarian impulses exhibited at the company appear to emanate from Alphabet Chairman Eric Schmidt, whose actions consistently seem to come from a very dark and unconscious place. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-08-31/has-google-become-major-threat-democracy-america
US orders Russia to close San Francisco consulate and other annexes in retaliation for "unwarranted" Russian action http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-41115352
Its been obvious for a long time how badly g manipulates the information people seek using it. So much so that i hardly if ever use it anymore with the occasional exception for things of a technical nature. Mostly white papers and such. Same with facepage, good riddance. In fact their intrusiveness is so bad that merely using their browser allows them to use the mic pictures all data collected from your browsing sessions etc. Mark my worda when totalitarianism is complete in the US it will be googles data which will be trotted out at our trials to deem us enemies oc the state.
Hurricane Irma Upgraded To Category 3, Barreling Straight Toward The East Coast The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has just updated its forecast for what it is now referring to as a "rapidly intensifying" Category 2 hurricane in the Eastern Atlantic ocean and the results look disastrous for a large swath of the Caribbean and Southeastern United States. ......Irma is expected to grow into a "major hurricane" within the next 24 hours with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph before growing even stronger throughout the weekend and eventually becoming a Category 4 storm. ....That said, longer term models suggest that Irma could make a turn to the northwest towards the middle of next week and head straight for Florida. .... Meanwhile, other computer models predict that Hurricane Irma will move through the Gulf of Mexico and make its U.S. landfall in Texas just 2 weeks after Hurricane Harvey devastated the state. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-08-31/rapidly-intensifying-hurricane-irma-sets-its-sights-us
I am already quaking in my boots. We have been blessed the last few years on the East Coast with no hurricane activity, but this is not looking good. But I surely don't want it to go into the Gulf again.
More: Google Issues Ultimatum to Conservative Website: Remove 'Hateful' Article or Lose Ad Revenue .... On Tuesday evening, Google sent a conservative website an ultimatum: remove one of your articles, or lose the ability to make ad revenue on your website. The website was strong-armed into removing the content, and then warned that the page was "just an example and that the same violations may exist on other pages of this website." "Yesterday morning, we received a very bizarre letter from Google issuing us an ultimatum," Shane Trejo, media relations director of the Republican Liberty Caucus of Michigan, wrote on The Liberty Conservative. "Either we were to remove a particular article or see all of our ad revenues choked off in an instant. This is the newest method that Big Brother is using to enforce thought control." The ultimatum came in the form of an email from Google's ad placement service AdSense. The email specifically listed an article on The Liberty Conservative's site, stating that the article violated AdSense's policies. more: https://pjmedia.com/trending/2017/0...te-remove-hateful-article-or-lose-ad-revenue/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Scholar says Google criticism cost him job: 'People are waking up to its power' https://www.theguardian.com/technol...w-america-foundation-criticism-job-barry-lynn --------------------------------------------------------------------
