Thanksgiving for all the prayers. It was a nightmare for our area. Around 4 am Harvey made landfall. My sister-in-law also received flooding. One shelter was flooded, rescues left and right. My brother-in-law went out [in his boat] to help rescue those trapped in their homes. This has been a common event and truthfully brings out the best in some souls. Those souls who risk their lives for love of another human being. Now for recovery. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. Oh, there was a lady who lost her life trying to drive to work, got flooded, and she had her infant with her. Her child was clinging to her and is safe. Such a horrible tragedy! So far the only death in our area, pray for her soul. Thank you again!

    God Bless!

Where is Guam and why would North Korea attack it?
By Kaitlyn Schallhorn Published August 30, 2017
    Fox News
North Korea launched what it called a successful missile Tuesday that flew over Japan and into the northern Pacific Ocean – an apparent threat to Guam, according to its state run media.

After the launch, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called for even more weapons launches targeting the Pacific Ocean to advance his country’s ability to contain the U.S. territory of Guam, state media said Wednesday.

The launch seemed designed to show that North Korea can back up a threat to target Guam, if it chooses to do so, while also establishing a potentially dangerous precedent that could see future missiles flying over Japan.

President Donald Trump tweeted Wednesday that “talking” with North Korea is “not the answer.”

I was thinking of you when watching the news reports late last night and early this morning. They were forecasting more flooding for Beaumont and I wondered whether you would have to make a quick escape in the middle of the night. Thank God you didn't have to evacuate, especially in the dark and thank God you have a relative with a boat. I offered a Divine Mercy chaplet for those who have lost their lives in the storm, some of whom probably won't be discovered until the water has completely receded. One account of lost lives was particularly heartbreaking. Four children and their great-grandparents were evacuating in a van driven by the children's great uncle. The van started floating, the driver got out of the van to help his parents and the children get out but the current was too strong, the van floated away and he couldn't reach them. That man and the children's parents will need prayers to help them through such a tragedy.

Stay safe, Bernadette, and know that you continue to be in the prayers of many.

The flooding is really horrendous in many locations. This photographer just happened to be visiting her family in Texas when the storm hit and she records the devastation and personal loss felt by her Mom and others. Lord have mercy on all who are displaced and suffering.

MESSAGE ISSUED TODAY: GET OUT OR DIE

Harvey isn't over yet. There was a mandatory evacuation order yesterday, but some people stayed on.

It's incredible that some people stayed put. Good for the judge who signed that notice. Emergency service personnel shouldn't be expected to risk their lives for people who defy mandatory evacuation orders.

You have to understand there was not enough time or notice to evacuate. Some people tried to drive out and came upon roads and highways under water . . .they were swept away and died. Others tried to walk out who did not have vehicles and were met by flooded roads and could not get out. Others were too old, infirm to go anywhere. It's just a sad scenario of thousands of housing subdivisions all being hit at once. Moving to the second floor of the house is futile when you don't have flushing toilets or clean water to drink. With electric cut off and cell phones not working adds to the horror. Mix that in with high winds and tornadoes. That so many people with boats have responded and driving in from other states without compensation has been a saving grace. But the hard work is going to be rebuilding lost homes, jobs, and emotional stress.

The area covered by the order seems to have many low-income homes, and experiences frequent floods. Not a good situation at all. Prayers.

I do understand that there were people who were physically unable to evacuate, but, as often happens when freak weather is forecast or actually occurring, some people stayed because they didn't want to leave their cats, dogs or other pets, some believed they could ride it out and some wouldn't leave their possessions. They're the ones who selfishly put other people's lives at risk.

Yes, many people will be in dire straits. I watched one report where they said that many people aren't insured or that the insurance payout won't be nearly enough to cover their losses. I also saw a report that there could be alligators or snakes in the flood water and a danger of contamination. It's truly horrendous. God help everyone affected.

With all due respect Dolours, the event is not even over and you are criticizing. I have not heard one newscast condemning anyone who had to be rescued. One town is totally surrounded by water, no one could get in or out. They are just now able to get in to assess it. We are all praying that the loss of life for whatever reason will be minimal, and with a lot of help, compassion, and love, the survivors will come through it. And some peoples cats and dogs are as important to them as family. Pets are also being rescued, no questions asked.

  19. Largest asteroid in a century to whiz by Sept 1

..........The asteroid was discovered in 1981, and is named Florence after the famed 19th century founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale.

"Florence is the largest asteroid to pass this close to our planet since the first near-Earth asteroid was discovered over a century ago," said a US space agency statement.

It is one of the biggest asteroids in the Earth's vicinity, and measures about 2.7 miles (4.4 kilometers) wide—or about the size of 30 Egyptian pyramids stuck together.

"While many known asteroids have passed by closer to Earth than Florence will on September 1, all of those were estimated to be smaller," said Paul Chodas, manager of NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object Studies.
    .............

This pass will be Florence's closest "since 1890 and the closest it will ever be until after 2500," added the US space agency.

Asteroids are small, natural rocky bodies that orbit the Sun.

Large asteroid collisions with Earth are rare.

A car-sized asteroid hits Earth's atmosphere about once a year and burns up before reaching the surface.

"About every 2,000 years or so, a meteoroid the size of a football field hits Earth and causes significant damage to the area," said NASA.
