Many people believe the 70 weeks in Daniel have already happened. However many do not, and this is demonstrated by the line. Daniel 9:24 “Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place. Clearly sin has not ended... vision and prophecy has not been sealed. Many believe that there is one more week left. The 70 weeks are also in relation to the temple. They are not in relation to Rome.
What about Mathew 24? 15“So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’a spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17Let no one on the housetop go down to take anything out of the house. 18Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 19How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 20Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. Clearly Jesus is referring to Judea in relation to the Abomination that Causes Desolation in the prophecy of Daniel. He also speaks of a great distress that is unequaled, and will never be equaled again (the tribulation?).
Matthew 29 “Immediately after the distress of those days “‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’ 30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. SH, IMHO, Revelations gives the most detailed description of what is to come but yet there are some details that are not there which are included in Daniel. (I have reread Revelations over and over and of course still uncertain about the meaning) But if you look at the scripture from Matthew that I posted it seems like an abbreviated version of some of Revelations and he states that distress will proceed the Warning (sign of the Son of Man in heaven) and then it seems like very quickly Jesus will comes on the clouds of heaven. Summary: distress, warning and second coming. BUT I think there will be major distress right before the second coming. I believe that Gog and Magog is the final battle when we have the second coming, to me this is clear from Revelations. There is also the battle of psalm 83 which involves Israel and needs to occur before the Gog/Magog war and I would think before the thousand years of peace. So we could have Psalm 83 battle, Warning/Miracle, Anti-Christ/FalseProphet(3.5yrs) , 1000yrs peace, Gog/Magog/Second Coming. ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Revelations is in the New Testament, which tells me it's a spiritual one. We have the Mass, the Sacraments, our Saints, and most importantly the Eucharist. The battle against Israel is no longer just about a country and its land, it's about the battle against Catholicism. Israel in the New Testament means Christianity, the Church. We've been through many antichrists in the past and present such as the rise of Islam to the Reformation, and today's Atheism. Revelations is a conglomeration of our Catholic history.
The conditions for Psalm 83 have already been met in the 6 Day War. Daniel 12:11 And from the time when the continual sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination unto desolation shall be set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred ninety days Daniel 9:26-27 26 And after sixty-two weeks Christ shall be slain: and the people that shall deny him shall not be his. And a people with their leader that shall come, shall destroy the city and the sanctuary: and the end thereof shall be waste, and after the end of the war the appointed desolation. 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many, in one week: and in the half of the week the victim and the sacrifice shall fall: and there shall be in the temple the abomination of desolation: and the desolation shall continue even to the consummation, and to the end This tells me we need to see a temple in Jerusalem as a pre-requisite to the covenant and the AoD. For a Temple to come into Jerusalem, this means the Dome of the Rock would have to be knocked down so the Temple can be built. The only way I can see this happening is with a war. - War - Temple Built - Covenant - War (where I suspect Gog/Magog will happen) - Ending of Daily Sacrifice - 1290 days - Abomination of Desolation - Return of Christ With the extremely rare celestial Rev. 12 event of TWCWTS happening in a year and a half time, that leaves a very short window for a lot of events to happen if we are in the tribulation. But in reality I have no idea as to how this will play out, I am just trying my best using clues from the Bible like everyone else.
This is one form of the way we are supposed read the Apocalypse as Catholics. However Revelation does speak about specific events such as Satan being chained up in hell for 1000 years. Yet many of these events have yet to happen. We could read the messages of Fatima as if it were allegory as well, but we don't because its prophecy.
still think it is the Protestants who are looking for the Temple to be rebuilt, and actually it is the AofD, the False Church being built and the lost people worshipping in it. IMHO However, if you are looking at the actual rebuilding of the Temple, if you google it, there are plans being made as we type these entries. So we can look at this either way.
Part of the problem with Eschatology is that currently there is next to nothing being written by Catholics on the matter, so its hard to have a Catholic perspective. We are essentially taught that the Apocalypse is allegory, and reading the Bible is a nice hobby. So while you can say its a Protestant end times perspective about the temple being built, you can also say that the Roman Catholic Church does not have a current end times perspective. In light of the celestial events about to happen in a year and a half, its shameful of the RCC to not have a current end times perspective. Not to mention the 100 year anniversary of fatima coinciding with TWCWTS. Its F***ing ridiculous.
And the other interpretation....accepted as referring at the time to the destruction of the temple in AD 70: Evangelical scholars will disagree about how much of this passage is devoted to each question, but they generally agree that 24:3-35 mostly refers to events leading up to the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70. The segment ends with Jesus promising “this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place” (24:35). A generation normally lasts 40 years in Scripture, and Jerusalem and its temple did fall within 40 years, as Jesus said. So his core prediction was fulfilled by AD 70. Then, in 24:36, Jesus starts to speak exclusively about “that day”—that is, the last day. In 24:4-14, the, Jesus is preparing his disciples for events—most of them extremely difficult—that will take place in their lifetime. These troubles are notsigns of the end; the disciples must be ready to “stand firm” through them (24:4-8, 13). Then he says, “When you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation . . . '—let the reader understand—then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.” This prophecy makes sense only with reference to the fall of Jerusalem. It cannot possibly apply to Jesus' return. When he comes it will be pointless for an unbeliever to try to flee. And a believer will not wantto flee. For the same reason, the following command not to go back to get a cloak and the woe for nursing mothers who must flee cannot refer to Jesus' return. But they make perfect sense if Jesus predicts that another abomination of desolation, like Antiochus Epiphanes of Daniel, is coming. Indeed that abomination did come in Roman form in AD 70. The Roman armies were always an abomination because they carried with them idolatrous images of the emperor, whom they worshiped. And those armies brought desolation because their commander leveled the city and entered the holy of holies, defiling it. The line “let the reader understand” (24:15) means that those who read Matthew—which would have been written before AD 70—must be ready to flee when they see Roman armies besieging Jerusalem. Indeed, the parallel account in Luke 21 makes this point explicit: “when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies . . . flee to the mountains” (Luke 21:10-24). In fact, many Christians did flee, sparing their lives, when they saw Rome's armies coming. Eusebius, the first great historian of the church, says that when the Romans fell upon Jerusalem, “the church at Jerusalem . . . left the city, and moved to a town called Pella.”[1] So Jesus, ever the Good Shepherd, told the first Christians how to survive those most harrowing years of the church's infancy.
"O contrae"...(did I even spell that right ). If you are looking for a comprehensive Catholic end times scenario you need look no further than a book by Catholic author Desmond A Birch called Trial, Tribulation & Triumph...Before, During and After Antichrist. I believe you will be shocked at the extent Catholic eschatology has been thought out.
There will be no temple built again for Judaism in Israel. This was promised by Christ himself. Revelations is about the Catholic mass. Protestants just don't see it that way, unfortunately.
One thing that has fascinated me is the disappearance of The Ark of the Covenant. Protestants and also Jews do not know what happened to it...they look in Jerusalem and in Ethiopia but cannot find it. That is because they do not have the book of Maccabees in their Old Testament Canon. In short... nor recognizing Catholic authority regarding Sacred Script...they have dealt themselves a "short hand". Today...the Ark is secretly buried by the hand of God himself on Mt. Nebo in Jordan. It is Moses's place of burial. The Ark has returned to Moses and at the place that he was not allowed into the promise land. Mt Nebo looks into Jerusalem. It has since been reclaimed by the Franciscans. The Antichrist will find the Ark on Mt Nebo at the appointed time. The Jews will give credit to the Catholics.
I don't think it's here on earth as a physical box anymore. I think there is a new Arc of the Covenant. And this present Arc is Our Lady.
This is what I was alluding to in an earlier post. This makes the most sense in my opinion. And SorrowfulHeart has helped me to see that it seems very likely that the six-day war was in fact the battle of Psalm 83. So replace that in my timeline above with "Hostilities in Europe" and all of this makes perfect sense to me now, meaning it fits with Fatima and Garabandal and that is where my thinking is, others will see it their way and that is fine. So here it is until I can see if another way in the future. (And I needed to add the Chastisement which brings the end of the AC's reign) Hostilities in Europe, Warning/Miracle, Anti-Christ&FalseProphet (3.5yrs)/Chastisement , 1000yrs peace, Gog&Magog/2nd Coming ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Brian...I understand your spiritual connotation but the physical Ark of the Covenant is real as it gets. The original Ark still exist...how do we know it...Sacred Scripture. Read 2 Maccabees 2, 4-8 also Jeremiah 2:4
I was gripped by the videos posted by SH re Daniel which I watched earlier. The events timeline posted by C55 is v interesting. I want to add in all the other events we hear about. Earth quakes are specifically mentioned as well as wars. Did you both agree where we are on the timeline? Did I read somewhere that Charlie J believed it all began when Korea and Iran agreed to support each other in missile design, and are you speculating , C55 , that this seven year period we are discussing began with the USA / Iran payment?
I am not sure we agree on the time line. I believe the tribulation has not started yet, but will start either with or after TWCWTS.
