As I type this the first fierce storm of the winter is about to smash into Ireland. The outer bands have been hitting the country all day with increasing fury, but the dangerous wind is due to hit from midnight to 9am with wind up to 150kph. We've had worse but still it's a severe storm. I always sit up and take note at the name storms are given - nothing happens for nothing. This storm is called 'Rachel'. Rachel means 'one with purity'. Interesting.

Watching the news from Greece tonight. Syriza look to be on course to win an outright majority. Every time the new reports from Greece, I'm struck by the volume of red hammer and sickle flags. In fact, I've not yet seen one Greek flag. Are we seeing the beginning of "when communism comes again?" 2015 is shaping up to be a fascinating year.
