I’m noticing re reading prior notes tonight just how much the dilaudid and other medications had degraded my ability to compose sentences and spell words over the last week. Cringeworthy. In my defense I wasn’t wearing my bifocals during that period. But I’m feeling MUCH better tonight. I remembered I had a salt substitute, a 50/50 mix of sodium chloride and potassium chloride, I just couldn’t tolerate before, for reasons that should become clear. I cut up a batch of yellow squash and potatoes, veg oil and butter, and liberal amounts of the 50/50 salt substitute and pepper, coooked it in the microwave till well done, slowly ate it, then camped out in my bentwood rocker three feet from my bathroom. What colace and figs wouldn’t cure, my home cooking did! After no “progress” since Wednesday evening before I went to the ER, due to narcotics and general anesthesia, the results of my home cooking were a “great relief,” if not exactly delectable.
An inexplicable set back, hopefully short lived. I had an explosion of pain right where they took out the gall bladder combined with inexplicable severe right shoulder pain at the same exact time, when I finally laid down tonight. It was so bad, sudden and severe we just called 911. Fortunately I took an OxyContin a half hour before leaving my home in the ambulance because I’m still waiting to be seen in the huge ER waiting room where I had the surgery Friday night. A LOT of pain tonight. Really bad.
Remember O Most gracious Virgin Mary that never was it known, Anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help Or sought thine intercession, was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, Virgin of virgins, my mother and Brians mother too. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O mother of the Word Incarnate, Despise not my petition, but in your clemency Hear and answer my plea for your help in Brians suffering. Come to Brians aid, O most powerful intercessor before God. May God grant him speedy relief and complete healing. Amen.
Crap. CAT scan shows a bile leak. They think a clip might have failed and the bile duct suddenly started leaking bile into my abdomen. Yeah, that might hurt. This is rare but does happen. 1% of the time. They’re readmitting me for a HIDA (hepatobiliary iminodiacetic acid) scan then I’ll probably go back to the OR for a repeat laparoscopy to close the biliary leak.
Padre Pio was once asked which was the most most painful of his stigmata. He said it was the pain in his right shoulder from carry the cross. Join with Jesus in carrying the Cross Brian. More prayers.
I went through this as well after my gall bladder surgery Brian. Hang in there, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
I just get the impression something is happening in my family that requires an exquisite sacrifice on my part right now
We will see and have answers to all of this in heaven Brian....until then, just trust that Jesus knows exactly what He’s doing, why He’s doing it....and for whom. Redemptive suffering is hard....but priceless....the rewards are literally eternal. Jesus, I trust in You+++
Shit. They have to hold all narcotics for 6 hours till they do the HIDA scan, and I last had morphine two hours ago, and the test takes another FOUR hours. I’m already in excruciating pain again. I don’t know how I’m going to make it another SIX hours without a narcotic.
I just lost my temper. Turns out once your gall bladder is already out, you DO NOT have to hold narcotics to do the HIDA scan. So they just pumped me full of dilaudid and I’ll be going for the HIDA scan momentarily
I'm praying to the 3 Mothers for you, Brian. I cannot imagine the pain you must be in. Mother Mary, St Anne, St Gianna, Lay Thy hands upon him.
