I like this miracle Jose, Angels carried the image and are still holding it today. The local Bishop use to slide a sheet of paper behind it once a year to prove it was still suspended. This practice was stopped as the Church seems to no longer want to promote her. ....http://www.catholic-hythe.org/our_lady_of_good_counsel_icon.html

Can the Holy Spirit be captured and placed in a cage as an Exhibit?

This is not how God works.

I understand enough to know I don't need to understand. I have been spoiled by the amount of miracles and blessings given to me, it does not seem fair. Therefore I then seek concrete evidence to help others who have not been handed faith on a plate like I have been. Thus I think this is a good thread to capture a lot of this information. God bless you Jose for doing this.

Meet the Russian priest investigating the ‘miraculous’ Holy Fire of Jerusalem

Fr Gennady Zaridze is seeking scientific proof that the fire emanates from God

According to tradition, the Holy Fire ignites from the tomb of Jesus Christ at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. It has been descending on the church for more than 1,500 years and it is believed that the year when it fails to light will be the last year in humankind’s history.

In those first few moments after it descends, the fire is only slightly warm. Pilgrims can easily take it in their hands and wash their faces in it, without hurting either their hands or faces.

Is this miracle? Some people, especially non-Orthodox Christians, have their doubts. But there was no doubt in the minds of the 100-plus pilgrims from Russia that they were witnessing a miracle: that was what had brought them to Jerusalem two days previously, on Friday. In total, thousands of Christians gathered in Jerusalem to light torches and candles from the holy flame on the eve of Orthodox Easter.

Ukrainian Orthodox believers light candles from the Holy Fire (AP)

Orthodox priest Fr Gennady Zaridze from the Russian city of Voronezh was among them. He was there to receive God’s grace transmitted, as he believes, by the Holy Fire. But he was also there as a member of the union of Orthodox scientists to conduct an experiment: he measured the temperature of the Holy Fire with a very accurate device that uses lasers.

I was near him during the experiment and had the chance to see it for myself, close up. As a Catholic, I admit I was sceptical. But the results were surprising. The temperature immediately after we received the fire from the Patriarch of Jerusalem and All Palestine (around 2:34 pm Jerusalem time on Saturday, April 30) was 42°C, but 15 minutes later, at 2:49 pm, it was 320°C.

For Fr Gennady, these results offer a clear scientific argument for the existence of Divine energy in the flame, emanating from God.

A delegation from the St Andrew foundation, led by Vladimir Yakunin, took the Holy Fire from Jerusalem to Moscow, for the Easter service at the Christ the Saviour Cathedral.

The flame’s journey encompasses dozens of Russian cities, as it will share its light, the light of God’s grace, with believers across the country – from Sevastopol to Yakutsk, in addition to other Orthodox churches abroad.

Julia Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

I can not believe that the holy men in the sepulchre in Jerusalem would tell lies about the event that takes place when the mysterious light/fire appears. We are talking about men who have dedicated their lives to God. Why would they put their immortal souls in danger of eternal loss, by tricking us.... Preposterous!

Michael Brown from Spirit Daily did research on Catalina Riva. I am sure he is not a fool. And he watched the wounds appear on her feet, filmed it and took samples of the blood. I see Catalina is now being called a cheater. Does that mean Michael Brown has been made a fool of..... I don't believe that !

Have a look in the site Mystics of the Church. There are numerous stories in there of the miraculous. But I believe if you expect God to put on a convincing show to satisfy your personal curiosity, you would not be the first to be disappointed. God does not like to be mocked or made a spectacle of.

I have always felt the incorrupt bodies of the saints is a miracle. You can still see them through glass . . .explain that.

Sometimes though what appears to have been supernatural maybe wasn't. One of the most famous , 'Miracles', during the life of St Padre Pio was that he broght sight to the eyes of a woman who had no pupils in her eyes. This was widely reported at the time. Later on though an Italian eye specialist who examined this woman found that she had a very, very rare eye condition in which her pupils were so huge that she had no iris. So her eyes appeared as big black pools. :)The specialist said that there was no physical reason why the woman should never have seen and specualated that the causes of her blindness were psycholgical.

I remmber this well because I had read up the specialists report. An irsh monk cited this , 'miracle' to me and became very, very angry when I said it might not be quite so straightforward. I am a great fan of Padre Pio and realy his whole life seems to have been a whole series of miracles. But, well you know he lived in Southern Italy and was taken by people ,quite rightly to be a saint from an early age. So on reading the reports some of the events taken as, 'Miracles' ..well Iam slightly dubious about some of them. It is a bit like rolling a snowball down a hill , its bound to pick up more snow. ..and its the same I think with a lot of the saints. We kind of expect miracles from them and so anything out of the ordinary that take place around them get taken upas miracles. Especially in a kind of hot hous eof piety like Southern Italy. I am fine and relaxed about this. All that glitters is not always gold. Padre Pio had mountains of golden miracles in his life so I suppose removing a little of the glitter does no harm. But it is surprising when you try to hint that maybe something glitters too much how much outright hostility you can meet.:D:D Like you ate attacking the poor saint.

There is a lovely story about Padre Pio . He was out of the monastery one time visitng a dentist when he got talkig to a lady in the waiting room who started to rave about a great saint called Padre Pio who lived in San Giovanni . Padre Pio unruffled appeaered impressed,

'He sounds wonderful, I must get a picture of him myself to frame!' he replied. :D:D

There used to be a very, very saintly Passionist priest I knew called Fr Arthur in a religious House were I stayed who hada great reputaion for being a miracle worker. Such a very gentle , loving kind man, you knew at once when you met him you were in the presnce of someone very, very holy. In fact after his death quite a cult started and the last time I was up at monastery visitng his grave it was just covered in flowers and candles from admirers even though he died many years ago:)

Anyway Fr Arthur when he was alive picked up a huge reputation for being a miracle worker and people came from far and wide for his prayers and for healing. The Superior at the time was annoyed at this and ordered poor old Fr Arthur to have no more healing, no more healing blessings just to send the visotors on their way. So the holy priest just used to give folks his ordinary blessing and sent them on their way. One day a man on crutches and his wife turned up and upon Fr Arthur giving his blessing the gentleman threw away his crutches, shouted he had been cured and to the amazement of everyone ran out of the monastery in delight, his delighted wife in tow.

Well that was fine till a call came into the monastery a few eeks later from a very, very angry Heart Specialist. The gentleman in question had died of a heart attack. The Docotr said he had ordered the gentleman to use crutches as he had a very weak heart and it was by using the crutches the Doctor had hoped to relieve the strain. The angry Doctor said poor Fr Athur's, 'Miracle' and throwing away of the crutches was maybe what had killed the poor man.

So all that glitters......:);)By the way I am sure Fr Arthur was a saint and that there were in fact numerous miracles.

Life can throw up the strangest things.

The older I get the more I suspect that the trul great saints amongst us may often not be at all the people we expect or ones that work iracles or wonders , but epople very, very hidden from us and to whom even the most shapr eed amongst us pay no attention to whatsoever.

I think we see this in the Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary. If we look at her life in scripture there is no accont of a single miracle she worked. Nor is there really may acocutns of miralces. The miracles surrounding her all point to the her Son, rather than to herself. Her words in Scripture and her acions are very, very few and far between. God reveals the saints to us for our good not for theirs and I supect in many, many cases He chooses not to reveal it at all.

That is why a great hobby of mine is in Churches at mass to pay shapr eyed attention to the people aroud me. It is quite amzing sometimes what you can pick up. I recall one time in London going to one Church at mass everyday noticing an elderly Caribean gentlamn who used to kneel in prayer at the very back of the Church. What drew my attention to this old guy was his recpetion of the Eucharist. He used to recieve the host and walk off out of the road. No one appeared to notice what happned afterwards but me, but he used to go into what appeared to me to be ecstasy in a side altar all the times. It used to just fascinate me.:):)

Pay attention when you are at mass, there are these hidden jewels all aro:)und us.

    Padraig,
I agree God's greatest works are hidden. When John the Baptist was born there was a great commotion , we are told the events around his birth were spoken about in the surrounding countryside and there was much speculation about what this child would become. Nobody noticed that a young girl had been there who was also pregnant and some months later she gave birth in a stable with nobody present but St Joseph and a few animals. Our Lady lived totally for God and in His Will so she never uttered a word or did anything other than what God willed. She was completely hidden and its only now that God is revealing her greatness in the Kingdom of God.
Today I think we do not know the great saints that are in the world. They are known to God alone and are doing Gods work winning grace for the world. I dont think they are on the internet but are living totally for God, victim souls.
I also think we have miracles every day that we fail to recognise. It doesn't have to be fireworks to be a miracle.

I agree with you both, Padraig & Mary Rose.

This reminds me of something that Marino Restrepo said in one of his online presentations: one day, he was speaking in a church and said that the Lord showed him that the person who was the most holy in the entire parish was the one keeping the blessings coming for that parish. And Marino was shown that this person was very quiet, the type who sits isolated at the back of the church, someone whom most people in the parish never paid attention to and did not know.

I also think about this with respect to Our Lady, that she was the most holy person to have ever lived on earth after Her Son and yet was poor, quiet, and not well known. In the Valtorta books, she tells John just before Her dormition that, with the exception of a few, she was not appreciated by those in her town of Nazareth. It makes me meditate more about what holiness is and what it isn't in God's eyes.

Too late for your book by now I'm sure, but this is documented. One of my favorites, because it involves the Divine Mercy....one of my favorite devotions. It is awesome...even if you have seen it, it's always, always soooo amazing to see again. I was blessed to see this at a Fatima anniversary rosary cenacle celebration over 18 years ago near my home as well. A gift from God that I am so grateful for. Thank you Jesus...I trust in You+

For those in the New England area, this story may be familiar. There have been many signs at the home of a girl who suffered a serious accident as a child and remained bedridden for her short life. Audrey Santo died in 2007. The local bishop began an investigation into her life.

    Her story is here: http://www.littleaudreysantofoundation.com/little-audrey-story/
And a discussion of the extraordinary signs surrounding her is here: http://www.littleaudreysantofoundation.com/extraordinary-events/

Her mother and family, devout Catholics, are completely under obedience to the local bishop.
