I really don't see how. Don't know how it is in other countries, but the US Constitution says the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches are co-equal branches of the government. Trump does not have the Constitutional authority to suspend Congress. What COULD happen is if the excrement strikes the rotating device, and martial law is declared, then the military would have the authority to arrest and detain anyone on suspicion of treason. If over half of the Representatives and over half of the Senate are detained, then a quorum cannot be called and the legislature cannot meet.
After I wrote that, I got to thinking: what if the stuff about Trump pulling a rabbit out of his hat, showing the corruption in DC, and declaring martial law all happen. It wouldn't matter: per the Constitution, on Jan. 20 at noon local time, President Trump becomes former President Trump. UNLESS... If he has done the Martial Law bit and has troops arresting people accused of accepting money or working with foreign governments against the US, they could arrest Biden on the basis of Hunter's laptop. If he is being held on charges of treason, he cannot assume the office of the President. Likewise, if it can be shown that Kamala Harris was a party to this and knew about it and said nothing, then she has made herself an accessory to treason. Likewise, she would be arrested and cannot become Vice President. So who becomes Acting President? Per the Presidential Succession Act, last amended in 2006, if both the President and Vice-President are unable to serve, the Speaker of the House (currently Nancy Pelosi) becomes Acting President. If SHE is unable to serve (i.e., she too is arrested) then the Senate President pro tempore becomes Acting President. Currently, that is Chuck Grassley, Republican senator from Iowa. (And if HE cannot serve, then Mike Pompeo becomes Acting President.) He would be Acting President until the trials of Biden, Harris, and Pelosi are completed. If any of them are found innocent of the crime of treason, then one of them would replace Grassley as Acting President.
I don't think it's so much that they want him dead, at least not right away. There are members of Congress who are saying we need to impeach Trump AFTER HE HAS LEFT OFFICE. On the surface that sound ludicrous; but Constitutionally it may be possible. They need to have him impeached so they can hold a vote and prohibit him from running for office again. If they do that, they'll wait until after Biden has been in office for 100 days -- usually the time needed for a president to learn where the light switches are, etc. Which means Trump's impeachment would take place in MAY! The fact that they would be keeping this man in the forefront of national politics is irrelevant -- They need to hold him up as an example of what will happen to anyone who opposes them in the future. As for "empty lives" when Trump is gone, don't forget that Obama spent the first year or so of his administration blaming the previous administration for everything he was trying going wrong.
Alan Dersowich said that he won't be impeached. He said that once Trump leaves office he becomes a private citizen and private citizens can't be impeached because according to the law (or maybe the constitution) impeachment only applies to persons in public office. Although he didn't say so, the impression he gave was that impeachment can't happen retroactively.

It's not so much a matter of the military not backing him. It's the military following their oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution. Now, what could make this REALLY interesting: Pelosi contacted the Joint Chiefs of Staff to ask/urge them to deny the president access to the nuclear launch codes, saying that Trump was "unhinged". The JCS turned her down. Now, when you are asking a military officer to deny your commander in chief access to his tools, or to refuse his orders, the question is if the proper term is "junta" or "coup". If she continues with this impeachment nonsense, I think he SHOULD have the FBI arrest her on suspicion of plotting a coup and attempting to get the military to join in. I believe that's called "conspiracy"
Agreed, Pelosi may have gotten herself into some hot water by doing that. This paragraph in the memo seals Trump's fate in terms of him continuing with another term. "On January 20, 2021, in accordance with the Constitution, confirmed by the states and the courts, and certified by Congress, President-elect Biden will be inaugurated and will become our 46th Commander in Chief"
I'm sure he will be first in line to volunteer to put himself between parents and their children to haul them off to camps. This isn't simply about the president having nuclear codes although Im sure they would love to have that responsibility delegated to a council as well. There is no way Pelosi or Schumer or any of the rest would make such statements unless there is something FAR bigger going on here. It's too bad none of them are talking, they might actually get some support that is if they weren't in a bind, a catch 22 of their own making. They have spent 4 years ridiculing people and calling them unhinged conspiracy hawks but then when a real conspiracy comes along that threatens the fabric of our country? Silence and chicken little.
