Well, just two questions: do you have autoupdate enabled; and does your iPad even SUPPORT the emergency alert function?
I have no idea. Pretty sure auto update is enabled but emergency alert function I don't know. It probably has it, I think most devices like that would have it, especially if they are on the internet. But I tell you what, I am a ham radio operator, I am going to get the radios out, dust them off, and make sure I have new batteries in them just in case!
Thanks Muzhik. I use it because I haven't a clue about techy stuff and it's easy to use. One subscription covers a few devices and I think I signed up to have my subscription automatically renewed each year. I haven't enabled all the extensions but seem to have enough basic security. I'm not currently a member of any forums other than this one and don't do online banking so didn't bother to use their password protection. Something I do find curious is that when I use the file cleanup (removing temporary files) the result for files fixed always says "none" under the heading for Chrome. I rarely use Chrome since I switched to Brave but even when I do use it the file cleanup result still says "none". I've been thinking of changing my internet security service because when I tried to enable one of their services Brave wasn't on their list of options. Trouble is that I'm too stupid to keeping switching among the various free services and I didn't like McAfee when it came free for three months on a new computer. That they did the dirty on American workers is more encouragement for me to drop Symantec.
You should check out St. Isadore's Place. It's a forum someone set up to replace Catholic Answers Forum when they shut it down. There are a couple of hams on there, including one priest who has had to do some interesting things to get his HF antenna installed inside the rectory. I'm ex-WB0OIW, having let my license expire several years back when I realized I'd moved 3 times without setting up a new antenna. Thinking of getting back into it, but not enough to devote time to studying for it.
Just remember that Brave is a modified version of Chrome. As for anti-virus, I use Avast. They have a free version, and if you subscribe, you get access to a number of other security products that tie into Avast. And of course, DO REGULAR BACKUPS OF YOUR SYSTEM! I picked up a 500Gb portable drive last year on Black Friday and just use the Windows Backup and Restore product.
I don't think I have anything worth backing up. A previous computer crashed and I lost everything on it. I thought I had it backed up with norton but when I tried to download the backed up files there were so many that I abandoned it. That was years ago and I haven't felt any great loss of the files do they can't have been worth holding on to. There's great freedom in carrying no baggage. That's the online stuff taken care of. Now, if only I could clear the rest of the clutter I've accumulated over the years I wouldn't feel so guilty every time I watch a youtube video when I should be cleaning house. It is Sunday, January 10, 2021 and one of my very reliable sources has told me he was inbound to Camp Pendleton due to the Insurrection Act being signed. While this information was coming in, I watched Washington Dulles airport go into lockdown. Nothing in - nothing out. This typically would indicate that POTUS was on the move. I also watched two aircraft exfil the area at the same time - not showing as AF1 - but something else. Which, btw - is not only very likely they would not broadcast his movement - but would also show as something entirely different. We witnessed GW Bush do the same thing when he went to Bagdad during the war, his AF1 747 was actually squawking as a Gulfstream aircraft. So what is the Insurrection Act? The Insurrection Act of 1807 is a United States federal law that empowers the President of the United States to deploy U.S. military and federalized National Guard troops within the United States in particular circumstances, such as to suppress civil disorder, insurrection, or rebellion. The act provides a "statutory exception" to the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, which limits the use of military personnel under federal command for law enforcement purposes within the United States. Yes, folks, that means the military can and will start arresting people. Before invoking the powers under the Act, 10 U.S.C. § 254 requires the President to first publish a proclamation ordering the insurgents to disperse. Remember this video shot in the rose garden and what POTUS said? Telling everyone to go home? Condemning what people were doing at the Capitol? I am not going to lie, when I saw it I was a little angry at POTUS because I felt like he had just sold us out. HE was the guy who called everyone there, and now he was condemning us!? It made no sense. NOW IT DOES! There are Constitutional exceptions to Posse Comitatus restrictions rooted in the President's own constitutional authority. Defense Department guidelines describe "homeland defense" as a "constitutional exception" to Posse Comitatus restriction, meaning that measures necessary to guarantee National Security from external threats are not subject to the same limitations. Now, the flight in question. MC4521 exfilled the Capitol right when all of this lockdown occurred. Interesting data point - it appears that the flight departed out of Oceana NAS. This is probably because if POTUS were to boogy out of DC, EVERYONE would see the movement and know something was happening. So, go to an alternate and secure exfil location. and then we have this flight that went out ahead of it, MC46, which btw is moving out. The initial intel showed the aircraft as a C2 - which is a twin engine turbo prop… sorry, but there isn’t a turbo prop on the planet that can make it across the pond in 4 hours, let alone have the fuel capacity to do so. So, what is next? I imagine the next thing we will see is an announcement from POTUS once - likely via the EBS. There's a lot of smoke and mirrors going on. I may have egg on my face for having warned friends and family in the US to be prepared. My daughter, while a Trump supporter, doesn't believe that 'lovely pro-life Mike Pence' could do anything wrong. She's a fan of Roy Shoeman (heard him speak many years ago) but I haven't the strength to send her to his page where he explains it. Or at least the theory. If Trump does nothing, if this is all sound and fury which signifies, er, not a lot, then the future is bleak indeed. So I hope the President does a last ditch attempt to bring the Democrats and their pals in the MSM to justice. Conspiring with foreign countries to rig an election is treason. It does seem logical that special forces infiltrated antifa - why wouldn't they, considering what those people are up to? And if so, then the President would have been prepared for the Capitol brouhaha. If laptops belonging to the chief suspects were taken, then it would, again, make sense for them to scream for impeachment etc. I'm hoping that these laptops are somewhere safe and the reason for the delay in a 'big announcement' is because the data is being sifted. Maybe I've swallowed too many red pills.
