U.S., U.K. and French forces administered the strikes, aimed at believed chemical-weapons labs and other targets, in retaliation for a suspected Assad regime-led chemical-weapons attack last week that killed at least 43 civilians.
It is the first thing I thought when I read the newspaper report this morning. The whole thing just stinks. I don't trust them for a second.
Thanks, Don, for explaining. So, to avoid releasing poison on the population of Damascus they relied on perfect strikes with no margin for error in a war zone? A big risk unless they were absolutely sure about the amount and storage conditions or unless they were absolutely sure there were no chemicals. You're guessing that research and development centres had no end products on site or nearby. You're guessing that the strikes interrupted some chain of production. "Seems like" is not a fact. The only facts we have are that all sides are capable of using all sorts of lethal weapons to achieve their goals. Any of the protagonists could have used chemicals. All of them are adept at spinning stories when convenient. None of them is above treating innocent civilians as collateral damage. Wishful thinking doesn't make something true.

The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic is the commission that performed the investigations and produced the data contained on that list that I posted from the NY Times article. From everything that I have read, Chlorine Gas dissipates very quickly so people need to go into the area almost immediately to gather evidence. Here is more information from the NY Times article about the groups that were formed to do this, In 2015 the Security Council established a panel, the Joint Investigative Mechanism, to determine who was carrying out such attacks. Good grief....the delay was for the purpose of certainty. Trump is no idiot. And the length of this war and the known intelligence...via U.S. assets already involved as well as from the victims on the ground and the Israelis gave certain targets of production and parts that must yet be assembled. And the very results (rather than continuing on with the fearful conspiracies always, for some reason, directed not at the real culprits but at the ones to act against the world declared war criminals, once again show that all to be true.....precise, limited with warnings beforehand that even allowed for evacuations of even the enemy forces themselves, and to arm their defense systems as well. The point was to interfere with Assad's pipeline for future such weapons' production. So...no "guessing" when it's from the experts on the ground as promised by Trump to use....rather than what apparently people grew so used to in the Obama regime and accepted....his enabling of such ongoing strikes w/o any repercussions. President Trump gave a speech last night on American TV announcing strikes on Syria by the US, Britain and France. The most significant point in his speech may be the message he sent a directly to Russia. The NYT printed the entire speech. Padraig, I find Putin's statements from a year ago in this video a bit ridiculous. There was already a whole list of evidence (or accusations) from the previous 4 years that the Syrian Government was using chemical weapons in their own country. So Putin and Assad couldn't thwart this most recent situation before it occurred? This is like you got hit in the head with a bat while you were sleeping for the past 4 nights and you woke up and caught me with a bat in my hand. Then I stated if you get hit over the head with a bat in your sleep tomorrow night it won't be me who did it. Maybe you should have at least gotten rid of the bat.
