Re post #5717 He lost me at very beginning when he praised Martin Luther for "standing up to the might of the Catholic Church"
If Trump loses, it will mean the end of Western Civilisation coming very near. This seems catastrophic, but we have to remember that Christ didn't die for Western Civ. Perhaps, we have come to make an idol of it, on account of how long Western Civ and Christendom co-existed. However, Western Civ was not such a wonderful thing for the proto-Catholic Maccabees who were martyred horribly for refusing to accept the mores of Greek Civilisation. The same applied to those martyred by the Roman heirs of this Greek Civ. We are increasingly entering an era hostile to Catholics. In truth, it's been long-coming and Christendom has been in inexorable decline since it's peak of the thirteenth century. Western Civilisation might not have been all it was cracked up to be; after all, look at what it has become since it disconnected itself with Catholicism. The present world, despite its technological advantages seems far less attractive than the late medieval one described so eloquently by Shakespeare. As I said, we made a bit of an idol out of this civilisation, but the false idol is falling and Donald Trump could only have delayed the inevitable by at most four more years. If he goes, the last restrainer seems likely to go with him. It is hard to see anything beyond, but Chastisement-to a degree, the horrors of this shattering civilisation will form a chastisement in itself, but God Himself will intervene at some point. In the meantime, all we can do is remain Catholic.
Sorr all I made a huge boo boo was referring to the pastor in the previous clip which I forgot to quote. Mea culpa
An interesting take. Thanks for posting. Question: In your opinion, who/what have been all the “restrainers”?
Are we really supposed to believe that after Trump had huge rallies with thousands of people and Biden could only attract hecklers that Biden got more votes than Obama in 2008?!?
Western civilisation wasn't perfect but 4 more years of push back against the alternative would have been nice. Sigh. These things must come to pass to fulfill prophecy. Or as Bob Marley put it How long shall they kill our prophets While we stand aside and look? Ooh Some say it’s just a part of it We’ve got to fulfill the Book
You know , sometimes it's important to hold on to perspective. As Roman Catholics we are the true Christians in the barque of Peter. The word apocalypse today conjures pictures of horror , however the word actually means "unveiling ". Rather than living in fear and trepidation as Christians we should never lose sight of the fact that Gods plan is unfolding. And whichever way the election pans out, His plan will continue to unfold. Miracles may occur. Perhaps if Biden were to win presidency, he may have a spiritual awakening and revert to being a true Catholic. Perhaps. Either way , God and His Blessed Mother have got us covered.
I like just about everything you said but I don’t think Joe even knows who he is anymore. He is clearly being used as a prop and doesn’t seem to have any power in a real sense. He could have a spiritual awakening but it’s too late for him to do anything with it. You are so right about the unveiling... for those willing to see it at least.
Did anyone ever think they'd see the day when faithful Catholics would be in bed with "evangelical Protestants"?
Your post mentions "western civilisation ". When Ghandi was asked what he thought of western civilisation , his response was ".... I think that it would be a good idea".
Ghandi should have paid more attention to his own business. A great theorist of what he understood as morality, but when he got what he sought, it led to the violent deaths of millions and the displacement of multiples more, not to mention his own violent death.
My husband is a mathematician who understands numbers far better than I do. He's not a Catholic and being of a cerebral nature isn't especially passionate about politics. He was going through the county by county voting results in today's NYT online and says it is clear that where there are unusually large swings to Biden (countywise), there is a disproportionate amount of postal votes. I had mentioned vote rigging and he wasn't convinced - until he looked for himself. In Michigan there was a tranche of over 138.000 postal votes with not one for Trump. PLUS in that state have been more votes cast there than registered voters. I gather it is possible to register to vote at the same time as voting, but looking at the figures, it seems suspicious. I do hope people are watching. If there is cheating, it should be investigated rigorously.
