I believe that Parolin, besides lacking charisma, carries the aura of the Bergoglian establishment, which makes him quite unviable for the papacy. Although the media has portrayed him as a favorite, if his health is indeed fragile, that further diminishes his chances.

Well not to put too fine a point on it many, many of the Cardinals are out and out heretics. Let's not mince words on this. Far, far worse than even Papa Frankie if you could believe it.

On the other hand some of the Cardinals would make excellent Popes.

But besides prayer and penance and fasting there is not too much we, as ordinary Catholics can do. So it make me think of the Serenity prayer in accepting the things we cannot change. It's not a political thing a Conclave or at least it should not be. We don't get to vote for instance.

As far as what happens if we get a truly wicked, evil heretical Pope...well, at the moment what can we do but leave it in God's Hands. We will have to ask for God's guidance if it comes. Of course none of us, I hope would ever leave God's Holy Church, Our Mother. But the thing is what if the Church so to speak, leaves us?

But as Jesus said sufficient unto the day are the troubles thereof. We are in a real life and death storm. I personally am at peace. If things do turn really, really bad I am counting on the Good Lord to send His holy Spirit to guide me to shore.

May God have mercy on us and grant us a good, holy Catholic Pope.

By the way, it's quite interesting to see that the reading for the Mass on the feast day of Saint Lucy refers to the prophet Elijah, from whom the Carmelite order of Anders Arborelius descends. I believe that the symbolism of Saint Lucy’s light—both in her protective role and in the candlelight procession held in her honor—can serve as a rich analogy for the dark night of the soul and of the world, especially in Europe, which has become a valley of shadows in recent years. Incidentally, the surname 'Arborelius'—etymologically related to the Latin word for tree, arbor—also evokes the Spanish and Portuguese translation of the name Elijah, Elias."

Daily Mass Readings for Saturday, 13 December 2025

    First Reading: Sirach 48: 1-4, 9-11

1 And Elias the prophet stood up, as a fire, and his word burnt like a torch.

2 He brought a famine upon them, and they that provoked him in their envy, were reduced to a small number, for they could not endure the commandments of the Lord.

3 By the word of the Lord he shut up the heaven, and he brought down fire from heaven thrice.

4 Thus was Elias magnified in his wondrous works. And who can glory like to thee?

9 Who wast taken up in a whirlwind of fire, in a chariot of fiery horses.

10 Who art registered in the judgments of times to appease the wrath of the Lord, to reconcile the heart of the father to the son, and to restore the tribes of Jacob.

11 Blessed are they that saw thee, and were honoured with thy friendship.

    Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 80: 2ac and 3b, 15-16, 18-19

    R. (4) Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.

2ac Give ear, O thou that rulest Israel: Thou that sittest upon the cherubims, shine forth

    3b Stir up thy might.

    R. Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.

15 Turn again, O God of hosts, look down from heaven, and see, and visit this vineyard:

16 And perfect the same which thy right hand hath planted: and upon the son of man whom thou hast confirmed for thyself.

    Alleluia: Luke 3: 4, 6

    R. Alleluia, alleluia.

4, 6 Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths: All flesh shall see the salvation of God.

    R. Alleluia, alleluia.

    Gospel: Matthew 17: 9a, 10-13

9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying: Tell the vision to no man, till the Son of man be risen from the dead.

10 And his disciples asked him, saying: Why then do the scribes say that Elias must come first?

11 But he answering, said to them: Elias indeed shall come, and restore all things.

12 But I say to you, that Elias is already come, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they had a mind. So also the Son of man shall suffer from them.

13 Then the disciples understood, that he had spoken to them of John the Baptist.

The Church belongs to God and we believe that the Holy Spirit guides the Church, but since almost 40% of the cardinals have been appointed in the last two years, I think the balance is tipping toward a more liberal candidate... Personally, I expect there will be a “division,” just like in society, which has never been more polarized between conservatives and liberals. I believe this has been a topic of discussion in both liberal and conservative church circles for quite some time, especially since Pope Francis began showing signs of health issues. I'm not saying a candidate has already been chosen, but both sides certainly have their favorites. Still, I expect someone to be elected who belongs neither to the liberal nor the conservative camp, but rather someone in the middle — and his pontificate will then indicate the direction in which the Church will go.

No one wants a schism; things are already quite heated, and the liberal wing knows that if they push for a more extreme candidate, the moderates might counter by supporting a more conservative one, seeing that things are getting out of control. Perhaps I'm too pessimistic, but from a human perspective — and considering the number of more liberal cardinals — Cardinal Sarah has very, very little chance. Of course, for God, nothing is impossible.

He won’t be from Latin America, nor from North America. There’s also little chance he’ll be from Africa, as most candidates there tend to be more conservative. Given the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, the significance of Palestine and Israel as the source of our faith — where the whole story of salvation began — Russia being both a European and an Asian country, and China, a communist state in a fierce race for global dominance… I wouldn’t be surprised if we got the “first” pope from Asia in modern times. Peter, the first pope, was from Asia — perhaps that tradition will continue...

I think it would be amazing if Parolin takes the Papacy and then gets exposed after, along with all those backing him. Which then leads to the papacy of PF getting exposed. Which then leads to a legitimate conclave once everything is cleaned out. This would make Bruno's vision of buildings collapsing on the Cardinals and Bishops metaphorical. It would also be a scenario which would look like the end of the Catholic church, but is actually its renewal.

I hope we get a good Pope, but I don't think the story for these times will be so straight forward. God has a flair for the dramatic. Also, Our Lady might have told Pope Francis to play things low so something like this could play out.

What about Cardinal Turkson who was a hot tip to be chosen at the last conclave but hardly gets a mention now. Did he dirty his bib by saying or doing something that made him appear too Catholic?

I read that Arborelius did not make any public interventions during the General Congregations; instead, he withdrew to his monastery to pray. Because of this, he is either ruining his chances of being elected pope in this conclave or doing exactly the opposite. By the way, if he is elected, it’s possible that he might move the Church’s seat to the Carmelite monastery in Israel and leave the administrative, bureaucratic, and economic matters to the Roman See—which, by the way, urgently needs a very skilled manager to fix its finances.

I think you are right. We are all hoping and praying for a good Pope, but I don't think it is in the cards-Francis stacked the deck too well for that. Too many prophecies-Garabandal-Medjugorje, among others say the opposite-things will be at their worst. The children at Garabandal and Medjugorje screamed and cried when the Virgin Mary showed them future scenes. We haven't heard from Mirjana on the ten secrets yet. I don't see a good Pope coming from this election.Things will get worse. We really need Almighty God to intervene.
