I know this is a US-centric game and might not mean much to you in other parts of the world, but baseball season has started again here and this article is really a great reminder not so much of the game, but of what it means or once met to many of us Americans. It is sort if in our souls even if we were not very good at it. Having a catch with you Dad or now as a Dad having a catch with my sons and seeing my sons as brothers throwing the ball around is just good. As every new baseball season begins, it brings hope and renewal in away - interesting that the season generally begins at end of Lent and beginning if Easter. It also reminds me of my Dad- I miss him. Anyway enjoy a nice read and let's, "play ball" ! http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/03/30/the-timeless-beauty-of-baseball.html
loved that film miker lol but if your ever in Ireland i'll teach you how to use a stick and ball in a real mans game..
That game looks awesome! I want to play!!! This is the sport that I still play though I don't fight in many tournaments any more at age 38 but did when I was younger. I still train though and have been working on and off since 1999 to earn a black belt in both Kyokushin Karate and Jiu Jitsu. At the school I have been going to it takes a long long time to earn your black belt. There have only been 5 students in all my time at this school to ever have achieved this. I am a green belt working towards my brown right now and hope to have brown within 2 years and really wanted black before 40 but hope to have it achieved in the next 3-5 years. I just don't have the time to commit to it in life or I could have achieved it about 6 years ago. Injury over the years in this contact sport have left me away for several years at a time. I have been back it though injury free for the past 3 years though. This is Kyokushin Karate...good stuff just watch the intro.
lol all we need is a few more Americans and we could organise a team visit lol Aye that's the sort of training you might find handy when you step on to a hurling pitch but you will still get pushed around a bit,, my krav maga helped but unless your totally mental I would suggest doing goal for a while ..
I would say that I would have to be a little mental to stand in the ring with a complete stranger who outweighs you by 40 lbs and wants to tear your head off.
Being 1/2 Irish , I am only well versed in the sport of watching "football" (soccer ) and enjoying Magners
Andy, another thing we have in common. Here's me in 1981, breaking 6 boards for my Black Belt test,in Tang Soo Do-Tae Kwon Do ). I also trained in Wing Chun, Shiatsu & weapons . Joey and Conchita were well protected when we traveled, lol. View attachment 1838
Awesome Glenn. I am trained in the 2 of the 3 primary weapons of the samurai: katana and bow (archery). A little known fact about Kyokushin karate is that it had a lot of its kicking roots in tae Kwan do. The creator if Kyokushin was half Japanese and half Korean. He was quite shunned in the Japanese karate world as you can imagine until he was beating everyone including bulls.
Interesting. I practice martial arts that my European ancestors pioneered and perfected. The oldest known published manual about combative arts dates to around 1300 AD. Our organization web site is here: www.texasarmizare.org
Andy,I liked training in three completely different arts. I learned kicking from the Tae Kwon Do, ,great use of the hands from Wing Chun, and pressure points from the Shiatsu. Limited my weapons training to things I could use in the street, nunchaku, Kali (Phillipne bamboo or rattan fighting sticks), and Tonfa sticks ,which were briefly used by the Police. Ahh, the good ole days
I love this similarity in many of us with this discipline to training. Here is our dojo. http://www.torakan.net
