All my sympathy Indy. We drive old cars. My son spent the weekend fixing the air-conditioning in his old car after it overflowed all over the seats. Our old truck got too rusty to keep on the road. I miss it.

I am driving this morning to the country in the middle of nowhere to a mechanic John recommended after Mass. It is a bit of an adventure as it is quite a way from the nearest town and I hope to get a bus. But this mechanic is very experienced and honest and told me exactly what was wrong. He deflated me by saying that my previous mechanic had not behaved the best in his work. This deflates me a little as I thought the guy was honest. A good trades person, one who is honest and knows what they are doing is a jewel.

I have a curious dream about Spain the other night. I dreamt I was walking through a Spanish town and got talking to a Spanish family who invited me in. There was a picture of the Sacred Heart on the wall and an old devout Catholic Grandmother whom I chatted with for a while with joy.
However the father told me they were in trouble and could not buy a new house and asked me to buy the house in their name as they had a credit history. The grandmother shook her head for me not to do it.

I agreed to do it. Then I woke up with a start surprised I could have done such a thing even in dream as it involved lies and fraud.

God bless with you car. Never be afraid to beg Our Lady's help in prayer even for small practical things like car problems. She is always standing at our shoulder ready and eager to help even with the smallest material things.

Saying a prayer that your own car gets fixed. It is wonderful how we find Jesus in the helping hand of other people. I am so grateful to John for recommending this guy. Though sad about my previous mechanic. I was paying him money I should not have.

    Thanks all,

To be honest one reason I drive such a banger is because I like a car I can service myself and if I screw up it has not cost me a lot. But in this case my last few services I forgot about the coolant and failed to top it up so it ran out. I do think it caused the head gasket to get damaged, so right now I have been trying head gasket repair fluid. I was very sceptical but it seems to be working, saying that I would not attempt a long drive until I was sure.

I wonder is there a patron saint for motors?

Conor was not at work when I got there early. I was surprised how beautiful it all was , there was a large lake you could not see from the road with a little jetty. I asked a wonderful old construction worker there for a lift when he was passing in his car and he drove me into Ballynahinch . His name was Martin and we both agreed how Ireland hod gone to the dogs with people only seeking money and becoming Godless. We both also had a cranky talk about immigration.

Conor later rang me to say that one of his customers wants to maybe buy my pickup and offered to sell me one of his own.:):)

I never expected this. :):) Talk about prayers being answered. I am going back down this morning after Mass and may wind up owning a harvester and ten chickens. But if it works out according to plan I stand to make a good bit of money and get another very reliable car in its place.

What a beautiful way of life so many country folk have. To live and work beside a beautiful lake. Right at the edge. So quiet and peaceful. They seem to be great wheelers and dealers.

You can get a simple head gasket test kit online or from euro car parts takes out all the guess work in relation to head gasket failure, also a handy piece of kit to have if buying a second hand motor..(y) to be honest you shouldnt have to top up antifreeze/coolant at all, first time you have to do that you should be looking for leaks from the obvious areas, in newer motors the EGR coolant pipes seem to be causing most coolant leaks and unfortunately that leak goes straight into the exhaust, so no obvious puddles around the car,it will also give a false white smoke out the exhaust which will make you think head gasket failure ;)

Sounds like you are in good hands with Conor. Praying that it will all work out for you. How wonderful to bring your truck in for repair, and drive off in another. :)

It reminds me of the phrase , 'The chalice runeth over', not only a prayer answered but answered over and beyond.

I was listening to St Therese's, 'Story of a Soul ' on Audible this afternoon on a beautiful summer's afternoon ,

Listening to a Spiritual Classic like this for the 6th zillion time you might think I would hear nothing new. But it is like reading Scripture. No matter how times you read or hear it again and again and again it is always like the first time.

One thing drew my attention. When a child in the garden she looked over and saw a small gang of demons with chains round their ankles dancing about over a vat.

Many modern commentators say These was not a mystic in the sense that she, 'Saw', things. But this is not quite true. She did, 'See' things.

Great to get some motoring advise. A few days ago I tipped a tub of head gasket repair fluid into the coolant reservoir and the coolant seem to not be lowering at the same rate anymore. But I need a few more days to be sure. I see that the oil does not have coolant so its not that, but I am suspicious that like you say its leaking into the exhaust. One of those kits would be good, be good to have. I hope I get it sorted out soon because I am about to do big mileage getting and picking up kids from school. Thanks again.

I am very familiar with head gasket problems - I’ve had 4 cars that went down after less than 4 years due to cracked head gasket. I changed to a different brand of car for the 5th one - still driving it 10 years later :)

Retire to a museum/hermitage to eliminate all stress on that blown gasket?

Lots of rumors about the pope and the very last days of August circulating around the Vatican right now. Keep your eyes open and your ears peeled.

I was looking at a recent photo of him in a wheelchair. He looks very, very small, old and frail.

I will be curious about goings on when he is on his death bed. There may be a few shocks in store.

Isn't he supposed to visit the tomb of Pope St Celestine? Isn't that what Pope Benedict did, and then retired?

Unusually white smoke will be the fix as opposed to the symptom.

May God have mercy on the poor man. I keep intending to pray for him but every single time I keep forgetting.
