(LifeSiteNews) — Bishop Joseph Strickland has published a new prayer for Pope Leo XIV. The prayer was published earlier today on X and is reproduced here in full. ~ Prayer for Pope Leo XIV by Bishop Joseph Strickland O Lord Jesus Christ, Eternal High Priest, Thou hast permitted Pope Leo XIV to ascend the Chair of Peter at a time of great confusion and suffering for Thy flock. We place him into Thy Sacred Heart, praying that he may be conformed ever more deeply to Thee, governed not by the spirit of the age, but by the Spirit of Truth. Grant him the grace to teach with clarity, to govern with justice and humility, and to sanctify Thy people in truth. Let him be a rock for the faithful, a light for those in darkness, and a defender of the holy Catholic Faith handed down from the Apostles. If he falters, give us the grace to remain firm. If he suffers, grant us the courage to suffer with him. and if he walks in fidelity, may we support him with prayer, sacrifice, and love. Preserve us, O Lord, from both despair and delusion. Keep us alert, rooted in Scripture and Tradition, yet full of trust in Thy providence. Teach us to hope not in men, but in Thee – for Thou, O Christ, reigneth even in Thy Passion, And Thou wilt never forsake Thy Church. May Mary, Thy Mother and ours, intercede for Pope Leo XIV, that he may be a true shepherd after Thy Heart. May all Thy saints defend him from error and guide him in holiness. In Thee alone, O Christ, is our peace. To Thee alone do we look, In this hour and in every age. Amen.
this is a podcast which was made today, 5/14/25, with Robert Moynihan and Fr Charles Murr. It’s very elucidating. It’s worth the hour and you know I’m not a fan of videos.
Through a video link which I probably took from the forum and made a note of (Pope Leo XIV Talks about the LITURGY - Dr Taylor Marshall), I came across Pope Leo's speech: ADDRESS OF THE HOLY FATHER LEO XIV TO PARTICIPANTS IN THE JUBILEE OF ORIENTAL CHURCHES The whole speech is worth reading. "...The Church needs you. The contribution that the Christian East can offer us today is immense! We have great need to recover the sense of mystery that remains alive in your liturgies, liturgies that engage the human person in his or her entirety, that sing of the beauty of salvation and evoke a sense of wonder at how God’s majesty embraces our human frailty! It is likewise important to rediscover, especially in the Christian West, a sense of the primacy of God, the importance of mystagogy and the values so typical of Eastern spirituality: constant intercession, penance, fasting, and weeping for one’s own sins and for those of all humanity (penthos)! It is vital, then, that you preserve your traditions without attenuating them, for the sake perhaps of practicality or convenience, lest they be corrupted by the mentality of consumerism and utilitarianism. Your traditions of spirituality, ancient yet ever new, are medicinal. In them, the drama of human misery is combined with wonder at God’s mercy, so that our sinfulness does not lead to despair, but opens us to accepting the gracious gift of becoming creatures who are healed, divinized and raised to the heights of heaven. For this, we ought to give endless praise and thanks to the Lord..."
I have had a feeling for several days now that this pope will be highly instrumental in the reuniting of the East with the West.
Perhaps I'm dreaming too much, but this pope could promote Eastern liturgies on a global scale, even in vernacular languages, uniting synodality, liturgical piety, and true ecumenism—a key to reversing many of the outcomes seen after the Second Vatican Council.
I’ve just got back from a retreat. Interesting conversations in the coffee breaks, away from the Trump bashers. The youngest retreatant is a traddie who thinks Pope Leo is really a conservative who fooled the liberals to elect him. I’m not so sure but I chatted to the abbot of the monastery where we were staying and he is sure Leo will begin the restoration but it will be very slow and careful. So initial appointments may not thrill us but we must keep our nerve as this will be a long pontificate and unifying the church will take time. Both of these people agree that L14 is a very good thing. I saw that official portrait and it won my heart. The little crooked smile, everything, looked to me like a pope that I can love. By the way, I gather his jaw was broken when he rescued a little girl from being hit by a car and it hit him instead. Hence the smile.
I love these details. I agree with the traddie you talked to. I think he is God's double agent. The links with St Michael and Our Lady are just not a coincidence. I agree with the Abbot as well. L14 will move carefully. His path is full of snakes and scorpions at the Vatican. I have committed to pray a Rosary every day for him for his safety and his sanctification.
As y'all know, my family went on a pilgrimage of sorts about 2 weeks before the conclave, with the whole focus being to pray for a holy new pope to be elected. There were some really neat "coincidences" during this trip that I couldn't know until Pope Leo was elected. First of all, we prayed at Sheen's tomb, and Pope Leo was chosen on Sheen's birthday. Then we stayed in Chicago (we've never been there before and probably never will again), praying in two churches there, and Pope Leo is from Chicago. I took a picture of my youngest son in front of a stained glass window of St. Micheal in one of those Chicago churches, because my youngest was consecrated to St. Michael as a baby, and Pope Leo was chosen on one of St. Michael's feast days. Then, we randomly stopped into a small chapel in Wisconsin and lit a one-week candle for the future pope there. It was the Chapel of Our Lady of Good Counsel. While we were there, an elderly man asked us, "Did you know today is the feast day of Our Lady of Good Counsel?" I didn't know, and was pleasantly surprised, so learned more about her. I felt it might have been significant. Then I recently learned that Pope Leo entered the Augustinian order in the province of Our Lady of Good Counsel! Just a couple of the signs that show me God was listening intently to all of our prayers!
