I'm just catching up on this thread. It brings to mind the battle that is being waged today. A battle for the soul of the Church. What we are fighting today is Modernism. This was and is such a grave threat to the Church that Pope St. Pius X fought vigorously against it a hundred years ago when it was in its formative stages. He recognized that if allowed to gain a foothold inside the walls of the Church it would be extremely destructive. Now it is in full bloom and is overrunning the Church. It has often been called the "sewer of all heresies" because all heresies drain into it. It is not Catholic at all. Anyone who wants to participate in this battle should read what Pope St. Piux X wrote about it in his encyclical Pascendi Dominici Gregis. It's a sewer, for sure. Thanks for the links. Looks like the oath was rescinded around the time of Vatican II. I was just shocked today to read a local unsolved mystery case involving a now-deceased priest from the Baltimore diocese and a nun that he may have murdered. They have exhumed his body to get some dna. He was VERY deep into sex abuse cases of young girls at a Catholic High School in Baltimore. The police think that the nun was aware of this and Knew Too Much. This was the late 60's. A real sewer, for sure. Disgusts me. The survivors of the abuse are now in early 60's and have formed a group, and have taken concerns to the Archdiocese of Baltimore. I agree with you on this one David. Let us hope and pray that the rigid heart of the pope will soften and he will give the dubia an answer that they have asked for instead of being too rigid and self-righteous.
I have been praying as well for the Pope, and for the intention that he will answer the dubia. It is his JOB.
The Pope has already answered the Dubia indirectly but absolutely clearly. He has indicated his support for those who have read A.L. as allowing Communion for the divorced and 'remarried' such as the Argentinian Bishops' Conference and the two Maltese bishops who are enforcing their 'interpretation' on unwilling priests. The four cardinals who submitted the Dubia already know the answers, they were attempting to get the Pope to confirm traditional teaching, they failed. We KNOW what the Pope's opinion is and so does everyone else in the Church. The cardinals should be taking the next step on the road, fraternal correction.
