Some people think so and have started to point out his apparent image within the flames. Lesley Rowan is one such woman who claimed to see the figure of Jesus Christ within the flames of a picture of the Notre Dame Cathedral fire on April 15. Taking to Facebook, Rowan shared a link from British site New Musical Express, writing, “I may be letting my mind play tricks on me here, folks take a close look at this pic and what do u see. I’ve even circled it!!!” Her post has slowly increased in traffic and comments, with Rowan confirming to some Facebook users that she “absolutely” agrees with their conviction that Jesus Christ is in the flames. Here are some pictures of the apparent figure in the flames, so you can decide for yourself what you see: LOOK: Jesus Christ & Godlike Images Within the Notre Dame Flames In the screengrab of the original Facebook post above, Rowan circles the section where she believes she may have seen the image of Christ. Many of Rowan’s friends agreed with her perception. “Oh my god,” one friend wrote. Another friend wrote, “Can 100% see the figure of Christ in the flames! Everyone I’ve shown thinks the same! “ Another friend wrote, “Looks like a figure of Jesus or i am tripping” At various points, Rowan jumped into the comment thread, saying at one point, “This is not photo shopped either I was just looking at the story and saw it,” before adding that she thought she saw him with a “long cloak,” calling it “mesmerizing” and “incredible.” Here are some more photos where a similar image might be possibly seen: Getty When asked by another friend what she thought the perceived “sign” meant, Rowan replied, “I’m a catholic and I have my own faith so things like that I keep to myself.” Here’s a closer view of that same photograph: In an interview with British news site Daily Record, Rowan explained why she shared her belief of the vision of Christ. She said, When I looked at this photo last night, I was really astounded by what I saw. When I look at it I see a silhouette of Jesus. I really see a vivid image. I shared it and asked for people’s opinions – even my brother in Australia said it looks like Jesus. I feel like it will bring comfort to people in Paris and all over the world at this sad time. Getty Of course, there are plenty of people who are vocalizing their shock that anyone would claim to see an image in those flames. One Twitter user tweeted, “For real?! First the metal cross that didn’t catch fire was a ‘sign’ now people are seeing Jesus in the flames. The lengths people will go to for attention!” Indeed, some of Rowan’s friends directly disputed her findings, telling her that it was the “opposite of amazing,” and that the image looks like a “statue.” Though the fire destroyed much of the cathedral’s external structure, a majority of the precious relics and architectural wonders of Notre Dame were since confirmed to have survived the devastation. For example, the crown of thorns, a woven circle that Jesus Christ was said to have worn to the Crucifixion, was safely taken away from the fire, unharmed.
Bishop Schneider: Notre Dame fire is sign of ‘spiritual conflagration’ in the Church Diane Montagna | https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/b...sign-of-spiritual-conflagration-in-the-church athanasius schneider, catholic, notre dame de paris, notre dame fire ROME, April 17, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) — The extensive fire that tore through Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on Monday is a sign of the “spiritual conflagration” that has ripped through the Catholic Church in the past fifty years, Bishop Athanasius Schneider has said. In comments to LifeSite on Wednesday, the auxiliary of Astana, Kazakhstan said the devastating fire that ravaged the Paris cathedral contains an “unmistakable spiritual message.” The destruction is a “symbolic and evocative” sign of “what happened in the life of the Church” in recent decades, he says, as people have “witnessed a conflagration of the Church’s most precious spiritual masterpieces” — her liturgy, faith and moral life, especially among priests. The clerical sex abuse scandal, he adds, is the “climax” of this “decades-long spiritual conflagration.” The steeple and spire collapses as smoke and flames engulf the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris on April 15, 2019. GEOFFROY VAN DER HASSELT/AFP/Getty Images In his comments, Bishop Schneider makes no conclusions about the cause of the Notre Dame fire but places it in context of the series of arson attacks perpetrated against Catholic churches in the last year. Elaborating on the tragedy’s “stirring” message, he identifies as the “spiritual arsonists” in the Church the members of the “liberal” establishment of heterodox theologians and clergy who have contributed to the crisis in the Church or who refuse to address its root causes. Many among their ranks, he notes, now regard Benedict XVI as a “troublemaker” for obstructing their “incendiary work,” through his recent essay. Bishop Schneider insists that the blaze at Notre Dame is a “cri de coeur for authentic conversion,” especially among the “Shepherds of the Church.” According to the auxiliary of Astana, it is also a call to the entire Church to do penance for the spiritual conflagration that has ripped through the Church in the past fifty years. “Penance and reparation must be made, especially for the betrayal of the command of God the Father that all mankind should believe in His Divine Son, the only Savior of mankind. For God wills positively only the one and unique religion which believes that His Incarnated Son is God and the only Savior,” he writes, in a clear reference to the controversial Abu Dhabi statement that God “wills” a “diversity of religions.” “Penance and reparation must also be made for the betrayal of Christ’s explicit command to evangelize all nations without exception,” including the “Jewish” and “Muslim” people, he adds. “God will not indefinitely and shamelessly be mocked by so many Shepherds of the Church today, through their betrayal of the Faith, their sycophantic serving of the world and their neo-pagan worship of temporal and earthly realities,” he says. “To them as well are addressed these words of Christ, ‘I tell you, unless you repent you will all likewise perish’ (Lk 13: 5).” Bishop Schneider expresses his hope that the Notre Dame fire might “rekindle” in the Shepherds of the Church a “love and zeal” for the Catholic Faith and an ardent desire to evangelize all people. He concludes by calling to mind what he considers “one of the most touching and spiritually powerful signs” amidst the tragedy: young people and even children singing the Ave Maria as their beloved Cathedral, dedicated to Our Lady, burned before their eyes. Such prayer, he concludes, is the foundation for rebuilding “the spiritual ruins in the life of the Church in our day.” continued...
continued from above... Here below is the full text of Bishop Athanasius Schneider’s comments to LifeSite on the Notre Dame Cathedral fire. Some considerations on the conflagration of the Cathedral Notre Dame in Paris The lightning vehemence with which fire engulfed the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris left one with the impression that an unexpected event had come like a bolt from out of the blue. And yet, viewed as a phenomenon, this tragedy came after a series of hundreds of systematic arson attacks on various sacred objects belonging to the Catholic Church in France over the last year. It is also significant that the fire in Notre Dame occurred at the beginning of Holy Week, which is the heart of the liturgical year for all Catholics. As the facts in the case are still unknown, we have no evidence on which to base allegations of a plot to destroy the cathedral. Yet one is left with a queasy feeling inside, especially as one considers the chain of systematic anti-Catholic events, marginalization, discrimination and ridicule which the Catholic Faith has undergone at the hands of the French political establishment and French media landscape, both of which are firmly in the hands of the current anti-Christian and Free Masonic powers in France. Notre Dame is not only the most symbolic cultural and religious sign for the Catholic Church in France. Given that France bears the title “eldest daughter of the Church,” her main cathedral also has deep cultural and religious significance for the entire Catholic world. The destruction of a visible sign of such vast proportion as the Cathedral Notre Dame in Paris also contains an unmistakable spiritual message. The fire of Notre Dame is without doubt a powerful and stirring sign which God is giving to His Church in our day. It is a cri de coeurfor authentic conversion, first and foremost among the Shepherds of the Church. The fire has largely destroyed Notre Dame, a centuries-old masterpiece of the Catholic Faith. This is a symbolic and highly evocative representation of what has happened in the life of the Church over the last fifty years, as people have witnessed a conflagration of the Church’s most precious spiritual masterpieces, i.e., the integrity and beauty of the Catholic Faith, the Catholic liturgy and Catholic moral life, especially among priests. The climax of this decades-long spiritual conflagration has manifested itself in the clerical sexual abuse scandals which have profoundly shaken the entire Church. Sadly, we must say that the handling of the clerical sexual abuse scandal has remained more or less on the level of emotional dismay. The true roots of this crisis have not been transparently disclosed, nor, consequently, have effective spiritual medicine and peremptory canonical norms been applied. In a recent and detailed essay, the former Pope Benedict XVI identified one of the most important roots of the abuse crisis, i.e. the loss of the true Faith, the prevalence of moral relativism, and the heterodox and unspiritual formation of seminarians. In reactions to the statement of the former Pope Benedict XVI one could observe an embarrassed silence — and even some indignant outcries — rumbling throughout the ranks of the establishment of liberal theologians and liberal clergy, who are the true spiritual arsonistsin the Church today. They now consider the former Pope Benedict XVI to be a troublemaker whose blunt observations obstruct their incendiary work. If the Shepherds of the Church will not recognize in the Notre Dame conflagration a Divine warning, they will be behaving like the people in Salvation History who did not recognize the warnings that God often gave them through the uncomfortable and unabashed words of the prophets, through natural catastrophes and various events. The tragedy of Notre Dame spontaneously brought to my mind the following words of Our Lord: “Or those eighteen upon whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, No; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” (Lk 13: 4-5) The tragic conflagration of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris is also a propitious occasion for all members of the Church to do penance for the acts of betrayal that have been committed against Christ and His Divine teachings in the life of the Church over the past fifty years. Penance and reparation must be made, especially for the betrayal of the command of God the Father that all mankind should believe in His Divine Son, the only Savior of mankind. For God wills positively only the one and unique religion which believes that His Incarnated Son is God and the only Savior of mankind. Penance and reparation must also be made for the betrayal of Christ’s explicit command to evangelize all nations without exception, first among them the Jewish people. For it was to them that Christ first sent His Apostles, to bring them to faith in Him and to the New and Everlasting Covenant for which the Old and temporary Covenant was established. If the Shepherds of the Church refuse to do penance for the spiritual conflagration of the past fifty years, and for the betrayal of Christ’s universal command to evangelize, should we then not fear that God might send another and more shocking sign, like a devastating conflagration or earthquake that would destroy St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome? God will not indefinitely and shamelessly be mocked by so many Shepherds of the Church of our own day, through their betrayal of the Faith, their sycophantic serving of the world and their neo-pagan worship of temporal and earthly realities. To them as well are addressed these words of Christ, “I tell you, unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” (Lk 13: 5) May the fire at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, however sad and deplorable it is, rekindle — especially in the Shepherds of the Church — a love and zeal for the true Catholic Faith and for the ardent evangelization of all those who do not yet believe in Christ. And may they be mindful not to marginalize and cowardly exclude the Jewish and Muslim people from this outstanding form of charity. May the fire at Notre Dame also serve as a means to inflame in the Shepherds of the Church a spirit of true repentance, so that God might grant to all the grace of a renewal in the true Faith and in true love for Christ, Our Lord, Our God and Our Savior. When the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris began to burn, there was a group of faithful, with children and young people among them, who knelt on the ground and sang the Hail Mary. This was one of the most touching and spiritually powerful signs in the midst of a great tragedy. May Our Lady, Help of Christians, intercede for us, that the Shepherds of the Church might begin, with the help of the lay faithful, to rebuild the spiritual ruins in the life of the Church in our day. In the Church, as in Paris, a process of repairing and rebuilding is a sign of hope. April 17, 2019 + Athanasius Schneider, Auxiliary Bishop of the archdiocese of Saint Mary in Astana
Honestly Padraig, this does not surprise me in the least. Catholics had better open their eyes to what is happening globally with our church. The sex abuse scandal is just one of many evils attacking our church. For those not wanting to either see, or believe how bad things are is the very thing that is allowing this to advance. God help us.
Don’t Say Arson! Media Focuses on Right-Wing in Notre Dame Inferno Apr 16, 2019 https://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/...-speculate-arson-in-symbolic-notre-dame-fire/ RUSH: Yeah, it’s as fascinating a case study as almost everything is these days with the Drive-By Media, the media left, the media-Democrat complex. The Notre Dame Cathedral fire. It is simply unacceptable. It is not tolerable. You must not even breathe the possibility of arson because if it’s arson then fingers will point in one direction, and we’re not gonna point in that direction. We’re not gonna permit fingers to point. We’re not gonna even allow thoughts in that direction. No, no, no, no, my friends. But let’s play the game just to start for just a second here. Even if the Notre Dame fire was not arson, there is no denying that attacks on churches, churches throughout France, throughout Europe, are on the upswing. I’m gonna tell you something, folks. This is just me. But watching those pictures yesterday as that cathedral was burning throughout the afternoon into the evening, watching all that I thought I was looking at what may well be a symbolism for all of Europe going up in flames. This is simply head-in-the-sand denial, to refuse to openly accept what is happening throughout France and throughout Europe. And the very idea that there is this concerted effort coupled with a demand to ignore all of this in my nature is all I need to believe that maybe there are some things going on that everybody knows and some just will not admit and will not permit discussion of. Because there is no denying that attacks on churches in France and all over Europe are on the upswing. It’s undeniable. It’s not all arson. Not random arson. And everybody knows this. So it makes all this sanctimonious concern about Notre Dame from the people on Drive-By Media cable news channels, kind of rings a little hollow to me since these same news outlets can’t be bothered to even report on the attacks on churches, the attacks on Christianity that have been taking place throughout Europe and Africa, not to mention the War on Christianity in the United States, which they are helping to wage. These are undeniable things that are happening. And yet, the compulsion in the mainstream media is to do just that. Not just ignore it, but to chastise, castigate, and attack anybody who might even try to point it out, even while acknowledging the possibility that Notre Dame was felled by arson. You know, there is a trend that has developed in the Drive-By Media, and it is happening all over cable news. It doesn’t matter where you go in the mainstream media. Any story that comes out, any story, if the story is a negative for the Republicans or for conservatives, then that alone is the story. However, if a story emerges that is bad for the left, like the Covington kids or the Mueller report or anything, anything that is bad for the left, anything that’s bad for the media, guess what the story is? The story is not the story. The story is the right’s reaction to it. And so the conservative Republican segment of our population is always the target of any story, especially stories that are bad for the left, especially stories that point to the hypocrisy of the left. Look at Trump’s sanctuary city gambit. What is the news story on that? The news story is not illegal immigration and not the existence of sanctuary cities. The story is how crazy is the right? How insensitive is the right? How crazy is Trump? And so we have a version of that happening here. I can go through the Stack of Stuff today and I can show you all of the stories which are focused on all of the people who attempted to point out who might benefit from setting fire and burning down Notre Dame. Even on Fox News the head of the Catholic League, Bill Donohue, was on. He acknowledges it may be arson but also that we have to look at what is actually happening. There are churches being destroyed and set on fire, and the moment he got even halfway out with that sentence, the anchors at Fox, “No, no, no, no, no, we’re not going there. We’re not going there Bill. We’re not gonna speculate, we’re not. Until we have the facts, we’re not even gonna go there.” Read the remainder of the article at the link
You know it does surprise me lots and lots. I know they hate the Church, but Notre Dame had such immense cultural and historical importance, a land mark for Western Civilisation and they are about to turn it into some kind of peep show. A kind of French Disneyland or modern Eiffel Tower. Aprt from anything else its just such gross bad taste..and this from the French, the arbitors of taste. Gross. But the guy that pays the fiddler picks the tune. The French Bishops should tell the French Government where to put their cash. But I'm not holding my breath. I wonder what's next? Flashing Neon visitors signs? In France too. What are they thinking? A centre of Faith turned into a money making visitors attraction. But the French Bishops can still say, 'Non, non non!' Here's hoping...
My real fear is that the current hierarchy is more representative of the secular culture, as we see in the Vatican today. In short, very liberal views....embracing all manner of non catholic faiths. I pray, but sadly have little hope that ND will retain its Catholic historical image. I hope I’m wrong...
This is a short homily about the rebuilding of the Cathedral by Sensus Fidelium. Me You Have Not Always: Holy Monday and Notre Dame de Paris
Padraig, I like stories like this. Sometimes I can recognize what others see, these hidden images, and other times I cannot but I almost always find stories like these to be interesting. Looking at the last image, I think I see Jesus carrying the cross but others may not see that and that's ok. Here is what I am referring to, *** etoa, I also wanted to post the following article which confirms that mass was being said at the time the fire was detected and it also explains a little bit more why people are concerned about what the reconstruction of Notre Dame might look like. Notre Dame: An unrepeatable treasure of faith and culture lost to the flames by Jeanne Smits, Paris correspondent | April 15, 2019 | https://www.lifesitenews.com/blogs/...asure-of-faith-and-culture-lost-to-the-flames ... When the fire broke out, Mass was being said at the main altar. ... A daily mass takes place on weekdays at 6:15 pm at the main altar, the new altar facing the faithful from the middle of the transept, directly under the spire where the fire broke out. The cathedral was evacuated at first when a fire alarm went off, after which the public returned, thinking it was a false alert, my daughter told me, having spoken to a person who assisted at that mass. Then the reality of the alert became apparent and all were again requested to leave the building. ... Since the separation of Church and State in 1905, church buildings in France belong to the State and are conceded to the Catholic Church to be “used for religious purposes.” It can only be hoped that the medieval splendor of Notre Dame will not be spoiled by modernist reconstruction projects. ... Msgr Walter Rossi just told WTOP news radio in DC that the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception has donated $125,000.
Oh brother....here we go.....the secularists' influence is everywhere: FRANCE LAUNCHES INTERNATIONAL CONTEST TO DESIGN NOTRE DAME SPIRE’S REPLACEMENT France announced Wednesday that it will launch a contest to design a replacement for the spire on Notre Dame cathedral’s central tower that was destroyed in the fire Monday. “Notre Dame should be given a new spire adapted to the techniques and goals of our era,” French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe said, according to The Wall Street Journal. ....The contest will consider whether the spire should be built identically to the one that perished in the fire. https://dailycaller.com/2019/04/17/france-notre-dame-spire-contest/ And I wouldn't hold one's breath expecting the Church to step in on such a "contest".
That’s my fear. Catholics donating to this renovation might surely regret their contribution when the final plans are unveiled.
Wow. The Freemasons are rubbing it right in our faces now. I am becoming more and more convinced that they are behind this act of terrorism and sacrilege against Christ, France and all Catholics.
